France and Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit has blasted Cristiano Ronaldo over his derogatory comments about Ligue 1.
Speaking at the Globe Soccer Award on Friday, Ronaldo said the Saudi Arabia league is better than the French Ligue 1.
The former Real Madrid star stated that Paris Saint-Germain are the only standout club in the league.
“The Saudi League is better than Ligue 1, of course,” Ronaldo said. “France only has Paris Saint-Germain. The rest are finished.”
Reacting to the remarks Petit, a World Cup winner with France in 1998, Ronaldo’s comment was because his rival Lionel Messi once played in France.
“I’m not surprised. Since 2018 when Cristiano left Real Madrid he has had more interviews than collective trophies,” Petit said.
“He (Ronaldo) has had very little impact for club and country. He is an ambassador of the Globe award and I think he can’t deal with the fact that he is not the headliner of the biggest football awards (Ballon D’or) anymore.
“His comments about Ligue 1 are baseless and is related to Messi and we all know that.”
