Former Chelsea defender Paulo Ferreira has said that a footballer like his compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo cannot be seen again in the history of the game.
He said the Portugal international is the greatest example for aspiring footballers.
Ronaldo became the first male footballer to win 200 international caps on Tuesday when Portugal played Iceland in the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifier.
The Guinness Book of World Records celebrated Ronaldo’s historic feat by presenting him with a certificate prior to kickoff.
Ferreira, who played 45 international matches for Portugal alongside Ronaldo, has heaped praise on the 38-year-old, congratulating him on touching the milestone.
Speaking to Portuguese outlet A Bola, Ferreira said: “Everyone saw the talent he had when he appeared; he was a rough diamond to be polished, and he kept polishing and getting better and better.
“For me, it is the greatest example that can be given to this whole generation of kids who want to be professionals. It’s definitely fantastic. Players like Cristiano are unlikely to be seen again, and even less likely to reach these numbers.”
“It’s been 20 years of selection and I don’t know who will be able to reach those numbers. “
