Rio Ferdinand has sent a message to new Manchester United forward Odion Ighalo while on a sponsorship visit to Nigeria.
Ighalo signed for United on loan from Shanghai Shenhua until the end of the season in a surprise transfer deadline day move.
And Ferdinand says he hopes the new man can provide the goals United desperately need.
“I just hope, I really want him to do well, to come in and help the guys,” Ferdinand told his YouTube channel while on location in Lagos.

“He’s got great experience and the lads like Greenwood need that, Martial needs that, Daniel James needs that.
“At the same time a lot of people are saying we’ve gone from Cavani, Mandzukic, Dzeko people like that. Yes, experienced players but the level of the name is a lot less than what they’ve ended up with in Ighalo.
“A lot of work was done on the last day, it was rushed.
“Ighalo please come in and score goals, please come in and do the job, show us why Inter wanted you, why Tottenham wanted you. Come in and bang goals please and help those young guys too.”

….and one ignoramus was arguing blindly about Inter not wanting Ighalo. They won’t read wide, yet they will want to argue. Lolz
If Man U are “at their weakest” as he claimed, are Tottenham and Intermilan too at their weakest…?
They will stop at nothing just to denigrate another person just because of the jealousy and hatred they were born with.
Bunch of losers …..LMAO
Ighalo in Man u? That is great because as the first Nigerian player in Man u, ighalo, even without kicking a ball, has won so many African fans for united including this writer . Expectations are high and in his debut, ighalo will surely grab a goal,an assist or even a brace to kickstart a glorious carrier in Manchester
I really pray that ighalo will deliver in man utd. The pressure is very much on his shoulder. A fantastic player any time, good foot work, strong in holding up play but sometimes fail to deliver when the pressure is much. I honestly hope he bang in the goals in reckless abandon for united.
From what I watched yesterday in the United game against Watford; Ighalo would do well , attest better than what Martial is offering upfront.
With Fernandes pulling the strings from the midfield, there was no one upfront making the runs so he could deliver those passes. MARTIAL,as talented as he is,lacks that push and always wants the ball at his feet rather than make those runs behind the defence and this is where Ighalo excels.
Ighalo might not be the best of finishers, but he makes those runs needed for a top 9. He has a good hold up play and good feet. So he would come good with Mata and Fernandes, that’s for sure.
I just need to be strong enough mentally and take all negativity about his signing as strength to prove his worth to the world.
He knows how good he is. His record says so as well. He now has to prove it one my time at the biggest stage again.
As a Nigerian and a United fan,I sincerely hope he does. .
Just capitalising on this high impact news to inform all SE fans that my screen name will change to better reflect my identity. Really a conversion of Achi to the abbreviation and adding a surname, Kang. So you’ll se A. Kang. Many people recognise my writing DNA anyway (apologies to the learned Dr Drey).
I have four wishes this year:
—Let Ighalo score and pave the way for more Nigerians to MU.
—Let the SE qualify for the AFCON and the WC
—Let Rohr continue to guide our boys (we must credit him for astutely seeing a cheetah in Ighalo while the rest of us saw a snail.
—Let CSN add that edit button.
Thanks and good luck to all.
If ighalo were to be a Brazilian, Argentine or any of such top countries in world football, most of those united fans will not shout as much as they are doing now even though the player is on his 30s. What has contributed to all these shout is mainly because he is a Nigerian but God pass them. Ighalo will surpass their expectations and they will end up asking for him to stay longer.
