Roger Federer secured a comfortable straight sets win against an injury-hit John Isner to claim the Miami Open title on Sunday. The 37-year-old Swiss veteran made short work of his big-serving American opponent as he dropped just one game in the first set which was wrapped up inside 25 minutes.

Isner attempted to fight back early in the second, but an injury left him requiring treatment on the court and that paved the way clear for Federer to clinch his 28th Masters title and the 101st overall in his illustrious career. The 20-time Grand Slam winner said: “I have been there so many times where opponents have been hurt, sick or not playing well. And same for me.
“When you are a junior that can throw you off. “At the beginning of your career you wonder if they are just testing and playing with you. But with John I knew it was going to be something that was not right. “The way he was moving was not right and I just had to keep making him work hard.
“I know for the crowd it is a bit of a let down and I didn’t let that affect my game. Of course for John I hope it is nothing serious.” On the victory, Federer added: “What a stretch it has been. I played here in 1999 for the very first time and now I’m back here. “I have played some unbelievable matches here. I am so happy I came here. “It was really worthwhile and my family had a good time.”
