As reactions continue to trail the Super Eagles shock defeat to Central African Republic (CAR) on Thursday, former England international John Fashanu said Nigeria losing to the football minnows was unheard of.
A 91st minute goal from Karl Namnganda earned CAR a shock win over the Eagles, in their Group C 2022 World Cup qualifier in Lagos.
It was CAR’s first win in the group which took them to four points, same as Cape Verde.

And commenting on the shock defeat suffered by the Eagles, Fashanu called for the exit of head coach Gernot Rohr.
“It is time for Rohr to pack his bags and move on,” Fashanu was quoted on omasports.com.
“We’ve got so many potential managers in the country and why do we feel the need to bring somebody who has to change his whole life to understand the dynamics of Nigerian football because the dynamics in Nigeria are quite unusual.
“It is also unbelievable that he is earning $45,000 monthly. I fell off the chair when I heard how much he earns. Do you know what that amount could do to a village; it could change the dynamics of everybody.
“I really cherish what I said earlier; let us love our own people because it was a sad day for me on Thursday. Before now, Nigeria losing to CAR was unheard of. I want the sports minister to please take note because he is the only man who can make a difference, please let’s get this right and send Gernot Rohr packing.”
The Eagles will hope to bounce back from the loss when they take on CAR in the return leg in Douala, Cameroon on Sunday.

Oya e-rats and e-diots, come and do your work. Come and defend the nonsense called rohr(t) and amu-ju. O, by the way, while you’re doing that… Blame as many player as you can, you may also blame Yobo too, and please don’t forget to hip as many insults as you can on Fashanu. Tell him how he has been both a failure and the cause of all the problems Nigeria’s football has suffered – while eating your ewa-Agoyin and bread at the street corner, seating on planks across the open gutter, taking the sweet fresh air from the open sewage – your benefit for sabotaging your country for a pittance.
SHAMELESS LOTS!
You are the shameless idiot, should we continue to accept this as encouragement and get used to loosing at home? I don’t think you’re a doctor. Stop using titles falsely because you might be suffering from thinking disorder, try to see an expatriate for help.
Says the real doctor. Oya, without blame gaming, come and diagnose and propose a treatment for the ailment of the team.
What baffles me is that rohr continues to play two defensive midfielders even against weak oppositions, what happens to playing just one DM and playing more offensive football.#rohr out
Man can’t give what he lacks.
What’s more baffling is the nearly unconditional support he gets from some clownish members of this forum even when this guy keeps setting and breaking negative records
Coming from a man who refuses to play for the nation during his time
Nice encouragement keep talking
Guy, go and eat your ewa-Agoyin. Stop chanting jazz here.
Fashinu you sold you country out in your playing days now you think clamouring for home based coaches is the best way to redeem yourself self??. Your not a small boy you have been trying to redeem yourself for years now since retirement which is around about the time Nigeria was dominating the world with a foreign based coach in the shape of Clements westerhoef. You have seen over the years even though Nigeria always inevitably shoots herself in the end as we do in everything we are gradually succeeding in, the team always shows more progress under a foreign coach the only homebased coach who came in with good intentions or rather humble and was progressing the team gradually was Keshi (God rest his Soul) but, by the end of his tenure when you look back it is stained with corruption and behind closed door dealings that didnt benefit the team but his pockets and we missed out on 2 Afcons, that is the ultimate result with all indigenous Nigerian coaches.
You see Fashinu knows all this and he sold us out in his playing days which makes one wonder does this guy actually have Nigerian footballs best interest at heart?.
John Fashinu if you are actually just honestly trying to over zealously redeem your betrayal in your playing days then i will like to remind you that. INDIGINEOUS HOME BASED COACHING SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK IN NIGERIA! WE ARE TOO CORRUPT AND SENTIMENTAL AS WELL AS TRIBALISTIC. So please enough with that look for another avenue to redeem your betrayal.
You might be right with your illustrations about Fashi, but I will also wanna make you understand that the so called foreign coach you are talking about are not exempted either when you talk about corruption, have you bothered to investigate their hiring, have you bothered to investigate how players are being invited to the super eagles presently?
Try investigate all of these and come up with your own report about the corrupt activities that is going on inside the super eagles camp.
Ugo why do some of you peddle lies just to score some momentary points, John Fashanu did not refuse to play for Nigeria, this man honored the call twice and was not used by the coach. Infact, i saw him on the Green Eagles bench in one of the old NTA footages of the team’s live broadcast not too long ago. And he came out to say recently that the National team coach who was a Brazilian told him that he will not play him unless he (Fashanu) cough out some money. I beg make una leave this man alone , he is more patriotic than some of us that are always tearing him apart each time he voices his opinion, these same lies were used to oust him when he presented himself to lead our football and we all know that Fashanu has the Technical knowhow, the clout, Global connection and experience to help us develop our football administratively and otherwise yet we all continue to support those whose only interest in our football is fame and money. Imagine the clowns that have been leading our football since then, look at where they have taken our football to, And all some of you have to contribute is attacking former footballers who dare call for a change. What a shame! NIGERIANS WAKE UP. Rohr does not have the interest of neither NIGERIA NOR SUPER EAGLES AT HEART, he is here for the money and when he is performing below expectations we either call him out or kick him out – period. Please, let us call a spade a spade Rohr has nothing more to offer, he is TACTICALLY INEPT, his call ups are questionable, and his match reading ability is next to zero. Concerning corruption , i do not support corrupt practices but it is rife in World football, have you forgotten that the last FIFA and UEFA Presidents were kicked out of their positions because of corruption and just recently the CAF President was voted out because of the allegation of corruption. So labelling Nigerian coaches as corrupt like as if their european counter-parts are saints is mind boggling to me or is this a case of colonial mentality? Have you asked yourself how an unknown quantity like Rohr, a former coach of Niger, my brother Niger Republic became the National team coach of NIGERIA. Besides, just after the last AFCON NFF President- AMAJU PINNICK said he was going to send Rohr to a refresher course , that to me was an indictment of Rohr coming from the highest level of our football administration, yet his contract was renewed few months after. Rohr is corrupt, Westerhof was corrupt, Bonfere Jo was corrupt and we now know that Otto Gloria was corrupt.
Am sure none of us here win a trophy trying to bring anyone down, but to ignore such loss and claim patriotism is also not the best also, we have the players to prosecute that match without fear, to me this isn’t the best result on our home soil, though clubs affiliation has divided national team followership, there are still people who still take succour in our matches. I love the coach aura around our players which seem scarce when our local coaches handle the team, but I think the man has pass his prime, he look lost under pressure and his reading of the game is questionable, is either he up his game or he leave us for good, if we really know what that result has do
Caused some Nigerians, we won’t blame the backlash, personally I can’t forget cote de voire vs Nigeria semi finals of Tunisia 94, though we won , it was there in the news , how a man preparing for wedding that Year died due to heart attack. I remembered how Roberto Baggio goal against Nigeria in USA 94 on that Wednesday made me and my dad out of pain of loss went to bed without food, emotions are high o, nothing is working in this country, let oga Rohr up his game o, he and his boys won’t be too lucky in that part of the country again o, they can ask Olise, Okocha and co.
Finally for our players, I advise they play for their career, the experience of world cup is way beyond explanation, the crop of players who toil with 2006 world cup weren’t relevant by 2010,write your name in gold and we’,all be solidly behind you…go guys .
An Average Coach will always loose to a superior coach. Any African team with a superior coach will dismantle us. Anytime you start to trust the team again, they’ll strike you with terrible loss from no where. I can’t trust this team again not until I see some major changes to the technical crew.
@ CHIMA SAMUEL, THAT IS HOW TO SUPPORT ANYTHING TODAY IN NIGERIA, BECAUSE OF THAT NIGERIAN WAY OF DOING THINGS. UNTIL WE START TO DO THINGS RIGHT, I WILL ADVICE YOU AVOID GETTING OVER EXPECTANT. I CAN PUT MY MONEY THAT SACKING ROHR TODAY ONLY MEANS FOOD FOR A CERTAIN FACTIONS WHO WILL COME TELL YOU STORIES AFTERWARDS. THESE LOTS COME HERE EXPECTING PEOPLE TO JOIN THEM ACCOMPLISH THEIR SELFISH CAUSE JUST LIKE OUR POLITICIANS DO. EVEN IF THEY EVENTUALLY SUCCEED, WHICH I KNOW IS ONLY A WIDE GOOSE CHASE, THEY WILL KNOW THEY COULD NOT SUCCEED IN DECEIVING I N I.
What is this talk of indigenous coaches not appropriate as eagles coach? Is Senegal not being coached by an indigenous coach, and about not qualifying for two consecutive afcon,England and France were not at the 1994 world cup,so what, haven’t they since then risen again to shine?so please let’s have it as a policy sef, only indigenous coaches should handle our teams,we are a developing country who need attention in other aspects of our national lives
