Stefanos Tsitsipas has compared his run through to the semi-finals of the Australian Open to a fairytale. Tsitsipas became the first player from Greece to go beyond the fourth round of a major when he defeated Roger Federer and continued his progress by beating Roberto Bautista Agut on Tuesday.
At 20 years and 168 days, the Greek became the youngest man to reach the last four of a Grand Slam since 2007, defeating Spain’s Bautista Agut 7-5 4-6 6-4 7-6 (7-2) victory over Roberto Bautista Agut in three hours and 15 minutes. “It all feels like a fairytale almost. I’m just living the dream, living what I’ve been working for,” he said. “I feel a bit emotional but not too much because I know I really worked hard to get here.”
The 14th seed will now face Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals and after breaking through last season, believes a change of mindset has led further improvement.
He added: “What I realised recently, your opponent feels the exact same thing you feel. It’s a pretty balanced match. “The difference is who is going to press more and be more aggressive than the other. But I did surprise myself a little bit with my performance.”
