Fabregas Confident Of Strong Serie A Campaign After Como’s 3-2 Win At Atalanta

Como manager, Cesc Fabregas, says his confidence has been bolstered following his team’s 3-2 away win over Atalanta in their Serie A matchday 5 encounter at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo on Tuesday.

The newly promoted side entered the contest as the underdogs, having endured a tough start to the season with two draws and two losses. Despite this, the Lariani defied the odds to secure a vital win on the road.

The former Arsenal, Barcelona, and Chelsea midfielder will be eager to build on this success when Como host Hellas Verona at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on Sunday, September 29.

Atalanta took a slim lead into the break thanks to Davide Zappacosta’s impressive half-volley. However, Como flipped the match on its head by scoring three quick goals in the first 12 minutes of the second half scored by Gabriel Strefezza, Sead Kolasinac (Own goal) and Alieu Fadera. Ademola Lookman converted a penalty in the 99th minute, for Atalanta’s second goal.

Fabregas lauded his players for their outstanding display, stating they ‘deserved even more.’

“I had belief, and today I feel it even more. When you come here and put in a performance like that, it is really nice and gives you a lot of confidence,” Fabregas told DAZN, as reported by TMW.

“We played a good game, we created a lot of chances and we managed to put them under pressure. We prepared the game hoping to hurt one of the best teams in Europe. They are a Champions League team.”

Fabregas added: “I’m happy with everything. We deserved even more. We worked on tactics and technique, but I ask the boys, more than anything, to have personality. I felt for them because the results haven’t come yet, despite our best efforts.”

Fabregas, 37, retired from playing at Como in 2023, obtaining his UEFA A coaching licence while guiding the club’s U-19s. He served as Assistant Coach during their promotion to Serie A and took over as manager in July after the departure of Caretaker Manager, Osian Roberts.
