Former Nigerian goalkeeper, Ike Shorunmu has revealed that Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro’s contract may likely not be renewed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Recall that the Portuguese tactician has come under heavy criticisms despite Nigeria’s qualification to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nation.
The NFF announced the appointment of Peseiro as the new coach of the Eagles May 15, 2022, replacing Austin Eguavoen, who returned to his Technical Director role at the federation.
Statistically, Peseiro has lost more games than he has won – 5 losses, 4 wins – and the Eagles are still not playing the beautiful football Nigerians crave for, the same reason his predecessor Rohr was booted out.
However, in a chat with Completesports.com, Shorunmu stated that Peseiro may have done well to qualify the team to the Nations Cup but it appears he may not lead Nigeria to glory despite his repeated boast that he will win the next AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.
“There is no doubt that the Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro has done a good job by qualifying the team to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. However, that may not be enough to save his managerial job considering the fact that the team has not been playing impressing football.
“Besides, the game against Sierra Leone also exposed his tactical and technical ability to read the game and to make quality substitution that will have positive effect on the team.
“I have this feelings the NFF may have seen enough of him and may not want to extend his contract.”

What if the game was needed to be decided on set pieces the only Free Kick specialist Nigeria has world wide now Gift Orban you people convinced the Coach to leave him out the team and you are here talking rubbish.
In Short I am sick of all these Ex Nigerian players. Banned them all from commenting or even coming close to our Darling Super Eagles. they are all evil. they don’t want any other Nigerian team to out do thier mediocre performances when they played.
RUBBBISSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is Senegal playing beautiful football if I may ask?
Ike Shorounmu or what do you call your name?…What improvement have you made to your career ever since you stopped playing?…How many courses have you attended? Rather than wait for the Super Eagles entitlements, please do something to better your life. Apart from being a goalkeeper coach, I have seen many goalkeepers that have led clubsides and even National teams as head coaches. You too can be that type by improving yourself starting with our local clubsides…. The only ex super eagles players opinion that I respect most is Samson Siasia and Sunday Oliseh in terms of coaching, all others are scrubs and pretenders.
What seems to be lost on some people here sometimes is that these ex-footballers are entitled to their opinion just like the rest of us.
I’m sick and tired of these unwarranted abuses being constantly rained on these people who actually played. Some of their opinion is sometimes from former players’ perspective. None of us, no matter how brilliant or fanatical could know this game better than them.
Those who think otherwise should have put on their big-boy pants and played.
@TONY leave story jare it does not take a rocket scientist to know that Europe is the pinnacle of every Footballer South American or African. My problem with these ex Footballers is that they know this as they all y thier trade in Europe so for them to come and start clamouring up and down for NPFL players in SE when they know full No i repeat no NPFL player can compete with European based be it in the same team or versing lets even leave Europe look at a Mexican team organised of local Mexican League players they Walloped NPFL 4-0 oya now CAF Champions league and Confed we cant even push only now in Confed we tried this year. Not the point the piont be say these Players knows nPfl look up to them as channel to Europe so they have thier hands in the pocket of these players hence the constant imposing on SE and jumping a CHAN level that even still they are below. So my brother my problem is people like These ex ballers must stop this nonsense and trying to get one of thier own so they can have our national team fully under thier control and run riot with Bribes and so forth like even the best of any Nigerian coaches Keshi succumbed to and which eventually caused him his job aftet such a promising start as National coach. You see these guys dont care they know that even in the eventuality of thier sack by that time they would have chopped money.so please bro dont fall victum to this ex players sevice to country thing. Stop being naive
I support the badge and colours not the individual if you are not capable step aside and if you contribution to the national team is coming from wicked intentions of personal benefit then by all means go to hell.
It is not as if it is well documented from the past and they are even making the corruption blatantly obvious knowing full well that most Nigerians would have blinkers towards thier treachery out of affection towards thier national service in the past.
Sorry bro not me
The coach is wack. If you must hire an expatriate, you must hire someone who has what the locals lack. Peseiro has nothing. He’s no better than Finidi, Boboye, Amuneke, Eguma or any of our local coaches. Can he coach any national team in Europe? He should be replaced jare

When eguavon , salisu , ugbade et al failed and faltered nobody heard nothing from these jobless exes but whenever the coach seems to be a foreigner u see all of them wagging their mouths like people way dey suffer dysentery for mouth. The question is, what are their plans?????? Your guess is as good as mine.
They want the team to play “beautiful football”, but they are not ready to provide good pitches for the beautiful football to be played on, or to pay coaches salaries and players bonuses. Nonsense!
If Peseiro’s contract is not renewed, no problem. However, Peseiro did not hire himself. Those that hired him need to explain to the public why they hired him, and they also need to explain why they should not be following him out. Ideally, if Peseiro must leave, then those that hired him should not remain in their jobs.
Why should only Peseiro pay for their collective failure?
We need proper administrators in the Glass House.
An administrator is a manager. A manager is someone who can make profit from a business. If an individual does not have the ability to make money from football, that automatically shows he has no business in the Glass House. We need people who can turn a profit from football, enough profit to pay coaches and players, and pay all our football bills, without needing to go cap in hand to the government or corporate entities. People like this will take our football to the next level. With good administration, Nigeria should have at least made the world cup semifinal in 1994. They might have even won the cup. We have underachieved so much for so many years, because we have people at the helm who are square pegs in round holes.
My litmus test for anyone who wants to be a football administrator in Nigeria – SHOW ME THAT YOU CAN MAKE MONEY FROM FOOTBALL, AND THE JOB IS YOURS!
A well detailed and correct assertion of what an administrator should look like or be by none other than @pompei himself. This is what I’ve been saying for eons, our football administrators are our kryptonite, the bane of our footballing existence. It’s high time we start challenging these so called administrators, they either shape in or ship out period!!.
Stupid ike and those formal player ,why coming to complete sport to talk as fools , isnt here you local stupid coach try to get foreign coach sack? You want to turn our football to politics of lies.
Why not support the coach and give him free hand .
Complete sport should stop comment from stupid formal player and local stupid coach
I have always said it the ex footballers are the number 2 problems of our national teams
My people, please let me be one on this issue.
Why are we divided? We have majority and Minority groups here on this platform fighting so hard to see NFF doing the right, but in what way?
Hmm, that said. We have to dig deep into this issue and understand why we are very divided.
The immediate past president, Amaju Pinnick should probed.
He was the architecture of this scenario, but now, he has left us with the Super Eagles while he is enjoying with his family and friends.
Amaju should be asked why he hired Oga Paseiro and Oga Rohr in the first place.
On what criteria? He even suggested that one of the two foreign coaches should go for a refresher, but he didn’t say that to any of our local coaches.
We are not domies. Thus is Nigeria, and we know how the system works. You hired a foriegn and you reward yourself. That has to be changed.
It is very painful that transparent and dignity are nowhere to be found in this country. Otherwise, the immediate past NFF president and co should be investigated. Not only in sports but in general.
Long story short, this is the first time in history that Nigerians want a set of local coaches to be in the Super Eagles. They must be seeing something wrong with the foreign coach.
Since 95% of us already agreed that NFF should go ahead and hire our local coach with the terms and conditions, I think they will do well at the Afcon and World Cup qualifiers.
If our indigenous coaches have to show us that they have changed by not taking bribe, they have to pick the players based on current form and not tribe.
The salaries of our local coaches should be treated as foreign coaches. Our local coaches should respect themselves too.
NFF should have a home for the Super Eagles.
Should return Super Eagles back to Lagos state. That is where they belong to if we have to be honest with ourselves.
That said. NFF should at least three locations for Super Eagles after Lagos. Occasionally, Eagles will go to those places to play because Lagos is not only a place in Nigeria.
Super Eagles deserve three world class stadium. By doing all this, with the mercy of God, I believe we are ready to go and rule the world of football again.
Last but not least, I will encourage the minority group on this forum to allow our indigenous coaches to lay down the foundation. Since the foreign coaches has never improved under the foriegn coach then let us ask the NFF to improve the local coach contact by giving them at least 4 to 5 years to build a young and strong team for us. NFF have to pay the local coach like they are doing for the foreign coach. Our local coach must be treated well.
The era of foreign coaches is gone. Let us fail with our own. If you don’t fail, you don’t learn. I hope we remember the way we all started our journey as kids, ba? Rome was not built in a day.
Lastly, We patriotic Nigerians now majority group and Oga Rohr followers now minority group should come together to work with the NFF President. In one word, local coach is the best for the job period. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
Can’t you see how dumb you sound each time you mention Rohr’s name?
As far as many of us are concern, Rohr met all his targets and was playing good football.
Ex internationals (not all) are now out of their shields trying a repeat what they did to Rohr. Though I don’t care much about pesiero because he is a crap and can’t be compared to Rohr, but I still don’t like how ex internationals keep hating on foreigners as if the foreigners are stopping them from developing themselves elsewhere.
Now if I may ask, what type of beautiful football is the likes of Senegal, Guinea, etc really planning? But Senegal is producing results!! This is how some nonsense fans demanded beautiful football without results, they ended up sacking Rohr who was giving us results just to bring in Mr total and beautiful football (EQUAVON). The result is what we are crying about till today.
