Former Kwara United coach, Samson Unuanel says he’s optimistic the Super Falcons will pick the maximum points against Canada in tomorrow’s 2023 Women’s World Cup opener.
Recall that Nigeria are also pitted alongside Australia and Republic of Ireland.
However, in a chat with Completesports.com, Unuanel posited that the team is capable of beating Canada on Friday.
“I am very optimistic that the Super Falcons will edge their Canadian counterpart on Friday despite many football pundits favouring Canada.
” Football is a game of 11 players on the pitch and I know our women have the experience to overcome Canada.
“With Oshoala and the other experienced players on the field of play, I don’t see Canada beating Nigeria.”

We must be honest and realistic. I’ll be surprised if Nigeria does not lose all its matches at this female World Cup. Blame it on the NFF
Judging by our shoddy and not too impressive preparations towards this world, its crystal clear that Nigeria will fail to qualify out of that group but history has shown us that even with poor preparations, the Naija Spirit cum resilience normally spur us on to do great things. Am heavily tipping the Falcons to dislodge the mighty Canadian women and qualify from their group.
Additionally, Super Falcons will be without Rasheedat Ajibade and Halimat Ayinde in Friday’s clash against Olympic champions, Canada. Both are suspended. So keep praying and hoping!
I have always asked the question that what happened to the other Payne sister in the Falcons but nobody seemed to have a clue why I am asking – now I know – There were indeed 2 sisters in the team – Nicole and Toni, why Nicole no longer features is a big mystery to me because as a defender, she was/is one of our best – over to you Mr Waldrum or any other person in the know – why is Nicole Payne no longer featuring for the Falcons oh? Thank God we still have her sister Toni but we do not have many better defenders that Nicole so again I am asking, why is she no longer in the team?? Biko nu!
