Former Nigerian goalkeeper, Peter Rufai has commended the brilliant performance of Super Eagles goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho against Man United in Thursday’s Europa League game.
Although Man United ran out winners after a stoppage-time goal from Scott McTominay, Uzoho emerged as the star of the match as he prevented Man United from scoring 12 times in regular time.
Uzoho who is the second-choice goalkeeper for Omonoia started in place of first-choice goalkeeper Fabiano who missed the game due to a shoulder injury.

Reacting to Uzoho’s performance, Rufai told Completesports.com that he was solid and and prevented his team from conceding many goals.
“The game could have ended 10-0 or more but for Uzoho, they conceded just one goal at Old Trafford.
“It was a brilliant performance for Uzoho as he saved many attempts by Man United to score goals. I am really proud of him and urge him to replicate such performance in the Super Eagles.”

Everyone who watched that game saw how effective he was in stopping Man U constant attacks and eliminating the threats but according to Scholes he only made one save and there was nothing special about his performance against Man U.
Well no reasonable individual would expect Scholes to be objective as long as the player he’s commenting on is not English.
With this performance, he would have said the exact opposite and how he deserves to be in one of the elite teams if Uzoho was an English player but the fact he’s not English, he has no other choice but to downplay his performance because his prejudice won’t let him see anything good in anyone unless he’s English.
This is the same man who claimed that Ten Hag has been unfair to Mcguire because he took the bull by the horn and kept him on the bench due to his poor performances. Mcguire has been the weakest link in Man U who for the last three seasons had constantly performed poorly and cost Manchester United games they should have won. For some odd reasons, previous coaches failed to do something about it which meant Man U continued to underperform.
Ten Häg took a different approach, he diagnosed and fixed the problem which improved Man U but because Mcguire is English, it did not go down well with Scholes who saw that as a good reason to condemn Ten Häg instead of commending him for a job well done.
No one should take him seriously, he’s not an honest pundit
The reason why he performed outstandingly Is simple: he isn’t the first choice keeper. An opportunity to prove himself presented itself and he grabbed it with both hands and legs to prove his quality. This is the sort of performance that is expected when there is stiff competition in the team. The same can’t be said of our national team where he sees no threat to his position, after all, okoye is not better than him and hence , no need to come and kill himself . Pesero needs to find another keeper who would keep these lads on their toes at all times,
Whilst having at the back of their their minds that the national team shirt does not permanently belong to them. Congratulations to him and i hope he replicates same performance in the national team like rufai rightly pointed out above.
Uzoho was in goal against ghana in both 1st And 2nd leg .. and he conceded one goal … The eagles strikers only scored one goal .. for 180 minutes. Same as Ghana. How do u expect keeper tô win a game for a team.keepers job are to stop ball and balls from going into the next.
U can only critize a keeper if he singlehandedly put the ball into his net.lol
Seria A. Club already contacted uzoho manager for January transfer.
Yea, but Uzoho performed poorly against Ghana in Abuja by conceding such a cheap goal from a weak Partey shot from 30 yards that shouldn’t beat a kindergarten team goalkeeper.
Everyone agrees Uzoho messed up and gifted Ghana the WC ticket on a platter and hence discerning analyst like Rufai are calling on him to replicate the Old Trafford performance when he plays for Super Eagles.
Some people cannot say the truth for once in their lives…..just once.
A swerving 70mph shot from the edge of the area (that took a bounce a few yards away from the GK) is a “weak shot” that a kindergarten goalkeeper would catch….LMAoooo.
Why are your own kindergarten children not keeping goal for the national team already…???
Maybe it was Uzoho who tied your strikers’ legs and stopped them from scoring from open play over 2 legs of 180 minutes…..or maybe he was the one sitting cluelessly on the technical bench confused and bereft of ideas when the opposition bench was busy making necessary tactical changes that will translate to the result they desired.
Thank God Uzoho stuffed humus into their mouths with that yeoman’s display at Old Trafford
Spot on. Nigeria don’t deserve to play at the World. With all the array of talents, yet they couldn’t score from open-play on 180 munites. That’s shameful. Even the so-called goal Uzoho conceded, happened in the first half. Nigeria had a whole 45 munites in the second just to score one goal but they failed.
I once said in this forum that they are the best we have at the moment. What they only need is our full supports.
Uzoho has been able to prove his worth to some extent. I’m now waiting for Okoye to follow him.
Wether we like it or not, they are both better than Adeleye and as an Arsenal fan, can’t still forget what Arthur Okonkwo did in Scotland during a pre season match. May be he can become the 3rd Choice and later win the shirt if he can but to Okoye and Uzoho, this is just the beginning.
