Former Nigerian winger, Garba Lawal has revealed that Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro may be relieved of his duty soon if the team’s lackluster performance failed to improve.
Recall that the Portuguese tactician was criticized by football enthusiasts for his poor substitution in Nigeria’s 3-2 win over Sierra Leone in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Sunday.
The stats and figures since Peseiro took over the Eagles’ job have not been impressive, raising doubts about his continuation as head coach of the three-time Africa champions.
Peseiro, whose contract is yet to be renewed by the Nigeria Football Federation, has been in charge for a year and played 9 official matches as Super Eagles coach (W4 , L5).
However, in a chat with Completesports.com, Lawal stated that he’s doubtful if the NFF will be willingly to extend Peseiro’s contract.
He noted that his time with the Super Eagles are numbered as the Football House may be looking inward for his replacement.
“I am not really convinced with the general performance of Jose Peseiro since he took over as Super Eagles coach.
“The team has really struggled to impress and stamp their authority on games, which I think is a thing to worry about now.
“His days as Super Eagles coach are numbered considering the way they played against Sierra Leone and other matches as well.”

Let’s MONITOR GENERAL ROAH’S CONTRACT with BENIN REPUBLIC and find a POSSIBILITY of BRINGING him BACK!!!
That’s the only WAY FORWARD…
PESEIRO Should Handle our under17
PASEIRO, WHAT BRINGS COMPLAINING ABOUT YOUR COACHING CAPABILITY IN SUPER EAGLE, IS BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT ON TOP OF YOUR JOB AND LACK TECHNICAL INDEBT ABOUT GAME. THE PAST COACHES (Westerhoff, Bonfrere, Rohr) NIGERIA EMPLOYED, IS NOT AS IF THAT THEY ACHIEVED SOMETHING GREAT BEFORE BEEN EMPLOYED.
WHEN YOU GOT THIS OFFER LAST YEAR, I ADVICE YOU ABOUT DO & DON’T, IF YOU WANT TO SUCCEED IN SUPER EAGLE. BUT YOU DIDN’T TAKE HEED TO THE ADVICE.
**** THIS IS THE ADVICE ***
MY ADVICE FOR JOSE PASEIRO
@** Work hand to hand with your Technical crews
@** Let the invitation of players base on merit
@** Don’t allow anybody FORCE/IMPOSE any players on you. Instead SCOUT for players & test them in Friendly matches
@** Invite local players that is ready to give foreign professional players a stiff competition(not the one to add to the number/surplus to requirements).
@** Always maintain your stand
@** Don’t allow anybody to be pushing you up and down.
@** Don’t be carried away with the club performance of players ONLY but base on PRESENT FORM & POTENTIAL
@** Do not tolerate INDISCIPLINE in to your team.
#** Do not invite players in order to pacify/please somebody (like local Coach Equavoen)
@** Encourage your players to be STRONG & MORE PHYSICAL when it comes to Africa football
@** Try to take advantage of newly introduced format: FIVE-SUBSTITUTION in a match(approved by CAF & FIFA) as an opportunity to test-run other players and MORE TECHNICAL in it.
@** Emphasize more on WING PLAY pattern for Super eagle.
SO YOU CAN SEE THAT YOU DIDN’T TAKE TO ANY ONE OF THIS ADVICE, AND THAT IS THE REASON WHY YOU ARE INVITING IRRELEVANT PLAYER(Musa), BENCH-WARMER PLAYERS (Aribo, Onuachu, Omeruo), INCONSISTENT PLAYERS (Iheanacho, Ndidi) INTO SUPER EAGLE TEAM WHEN WE HAVE TOP-FORM PLAYERS LIKE MOFFI, ORBAN, ONYEDIKA, OSIGWE.
THE MOST PAINFUL ONE, CONTINUOUS SNUBBING OF CHUBA AKPOM (the best SUPPORTING (not main) STRIKER). OR WHICH OF THE SUPER EAGLE SUPPORTING STRIKERS IS BETTER THAN CHUBA AKPOM (Golden boot winner).
IF YOUR CONTRACT IS NOT EXTENDED AT LAST, YOU ARE THE ONE THAT CAUSED IT
Why are we always owing coaches that is the question the NFF should solve first. Let’s assume the guy is bad but is the reason of paying is salary not enough an excuse
They will not say anything about the coach salary not being paid as and when due but will be quick to grant yeye interview blaming the coach so that their ex colleagues can be appointed so that they can be able to do their shady deals. When Eguavon failed woefully at the nation’s cup and world cup qualifier how many of this ex international come out publicly to condemn him. If it was ex international that are being own backlog of salary like pesseiro they will say they are not being given good condition to work like the foreign one. As for the fans who are clamouring for change of coach especially to their prefer local one i’m sorry for you. You recall this was the same way you were lamenting during Rohr time? I told you Nigeria is not Brazil,Germany or Argentina. If our grassroot football is not being look into even if we bring. Guardiola we will still have problem. Imagine foitering home ageing base players on a coach just to improve the league, please who does that?
Talkative. No coach is ever good on Nigeria. Be it local or international. You are all afraid to blame the players who plays well in their clubs and come to play nonsense in Nigeria.
The governing body (NFF) is the worst culprit. THEIVES. Please, there are many factors. Leave the coach alone and let’s face reality. Change and change. Shame.
President Tinubu must find a way to stop the corrupt NFF from giving Nigeria the image of a gangster country abroad. Whenever the NFF cannot pay a coach the contractually agreed salary, they summon a band of ex-internationals to assassinate his character in the media. This is a clear case of giving a dog a bad name to hang it.
You lawa you think you are still cabal in the team ? Old monkey
