Former Nigerian goalkeeper, Andrew Aikhoumogbe says he’s optimistic Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro can surpass Gernot Rohr’s achievements with the senior national team if he utilises the array of talents at his disposal.
Recall that the Portuguese tactician has come under heavy criticisms after Nigeria’s 1-0 loss to Guinea-Bissau in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
Although the Super Eagles later managed a 1-0 win in the reverse fixture, however, some section of football enthusiasts are not too convinced with the technical ability of the Peseiro.
In a chat with Completesports.com, Aikhoumogbe opined that Peseiro can turn things around if he utilises the array of talents at his disposal.
He also advised him to extend invitation to players based on merit and not those sitting on the bench to the Super Eagles.
“I won’t be too quick to pass judgement on Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro regardless of his poor stats with the team.
“However, I will only advise him to utilise the plenty of talents at his disposal if he must surpass the achievements of his predecessor.
“He must ensure he invites players that are actively playing for their clubs in Europe or in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).”

This man has a point. Peseiro will win the Cup of Nations for Nigeria. Rohr failed. He became Belmadi’s boy. Always a pleasure to comment here. So full of lovely men. Xxx
Love you all.
I hope Oga Paseiro follows Mr. Aikhoumogbe’s advice.
I still believe the new gaffer is not the right man to be in charge of the Super Eagles.
If we have to be honest with ourselves, both Oga Rohr and Oga Paseiro can not and doesn’t have what it takes to build Super Eagles.
I will choose Amunike or Siasia over both of the coaches. Hmmm. NFF is a real problem of the Eagles. If you know you know kę. What do I know. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
Lolz so funny. Let us wait till then.
Listen darling, Peseiro is the man. Nigeria will perform wonders.
Love you. Xxx
Rohr could have done better but for the meddlesome quartet of Dare, Pinnick, Eguavoen and Odegbami Nigeria needs a manager who will surpass the achievements of Westerhof, Keshi and Otto Gloria.
OGA ROHR ALWAYS INVITE AND USE PLAYERS BASED ON THEIR PRESENT FORM.
BUT BASE ON LAST INVITATION OF PLAYERS BY COACH PASEIRO, IT SHOWS THAT PASEIRO HAS NOTHING TO OFFER NIGERIA. WHY INVITATION OF IRREGULAR PLAYING TIME PLAYERS LIKE ARIBO, IHEANACHO, ONUACHU,MUSA, NDIDI.
HE IS USING EGO, NAMES, SENIORITY TO INVITE PLAYERS. AND WITH THIS KIND OF MENTALITY, I PRAY HE WILL FAIL WOEFULLY MORE THAN EQUAVOEN. BECAUSE NIGERIA ARE NOT HAPPY. THEY ARE EAGER TO SEE BEST FORM PLAYERS LIKE: S.OSIGWE, ADELEYE, EBUEHI, ONYEDIKA, AKPOGUMA, DESSERS, ORBAN, CHUBA AKPOM.
Asking whether Peseiro can surpass Rohr ignores the elephant in the room. If the elephant in the room is taken care of, Peseiro will have a better chance to do his job, and from his results, we will be in a better position to judge whether he is the right man or not.
The questions we should be asking are:
1) Can NFF surpass the recent achievements of the Senegalese and Moroccan FAs?
2) Can NFF make our league as attractive as the English Premier League, or at least make it more attractive than it currently is?
3) Can NFF maintain our pitches to world class standard? See pitches like Old Trafford, Anfield, Nou Camp, Santiago Bernabeu. Is it not human beings that are managing those places? Who does not like the job Qatar officials did at the last world cup? Are they not human beings?
NFF makes it look like it is spirits from heaven that are in charge over there, as if maintenance of pitches is not humanly possible.
4) Can NFF make prompt, timely payments when due when it comes to coaches salaries and players bonuses? Can they do this better than their counterparts in Europe and other serious progressive football nations? The current NFF leadership took a fine step in the right direction recently by paying a portion of the GBESE they were owing. Can they continue in this direction?
5) Can NFF generate revenues to make them self sustaining, so they don’t need Government assistance? The people running English football that have turned it into a tremendous cash cow, are they spirits from heaven?
If the NFF had done their jobs right, even OUR OWN might have succeeded. While his woeful failure is his burden to bear, the fact is his failure was “wind aided”. The NFF played a gigantic role in the whole SHOOT YOURSELF IN THE FOOT mess.
How can you assess the ability of a worker, when the working environment is not ideal, and he does not have the right tools for his job?
You deserve an award for this world class post @pompei those above questions SHOULD be tabled in front of the Nff leadership board before we can start judging any coach’s performance.
All the above questions by pompei have positive response from glass house occupants but the cog in the wheel of progress of the occupants is CORRUPTION.
Nigeria has everything in possession to blosom in all sectors including football but corruption is our bane. How I wish bad governance vanish in our system. God help us
@Pompei if we go by this your comment then is totally impossible. That’s because we have the worst FA in footballing world. They will never do things right.
@Pompei
Is it possible to implement one-tenth of what you suggested in Nigeria, where merits, credibility, and the will to do the right things have no place in our psyche? Every day we continue to live in self-deception–doing the same wrong things and expecting marvelous results.
Does it make sense for a coach to browbeat about winning the AFCON when the team has been serially losing games?
We are expecting too much from NFF, Our soccer body cannot be richer than Nigeria, our country is in a serious mess economically right now so Nff will not get the money to do all the things you listed above but they can take some simple steps that will not require huge investment but capable of creating opportunities that can surpass all the goals listed above. It is so simple TAKE OUR FOOTBALL BACK TO PRIMARY, SECONDARY AND TERTIARY INSTITUTION and build serious developmental competitions at every level, my guy , i give you FIVE YEARS, Nigerian footballers will begin to shake the World of football and sponsorhips will pour into our football.
So if after the NFF “…TAKES OUR FOOTBALL BACK TO PRIMARY, SECONDARY AND TERTIARY INSTITUTION and build serious developmental competitions at every level….” but still dont hire the right national team coaches or pay them and the players their bonuses and other emoluments as and when due, or cannot provide even one smooth lush green grass surface like the one Falcons played Haiti on recently, you think you will shake the world kwa…..?
Weldone ehn. Continue.
I never knew demanding for the payment of a worker’s/workers’ wages as agreed when hiring them has now become “expecting too much”
NFF does not have money, yet they and their useless minister threw away $20m (barest minimum) on the altar of racial hatred and jelousy…..LMAOOoo….and no one resigned, got queried, or fired for such disastrously imbecilic and insane decision making at such a high level of management. Mind you, $20m is almost equivalent to the N18bn the sports ministry claims it has spent on the NFF in the last 4 yrs.
Its even funny that you think “…TAKING OUR FOOTBALL BACK TO PRIMARY, SECONDARY AND TERTIARY INSTITUTION and building serious developmental competitions at every level….” for 5 solid years will not require huge investments.
Sorry, are you referring to the NFF that has not paid the U17 falconets and their coaches their match bonuses from the WC qualifiers till the World cup bronze medal winning match in India…..LMAOOoo…??
To him whom much is given, much will be expected.
NFF are the custodians of Nigerian football. They have been entrusted with the responsibility to manage something that brings pleasure to hundreds of millions of Nigerians.
It is only normal that expectations will be high. In my opinion, the 5 questions I raised don’t qualify as EXPECTING TOO MUCH. Those are basic requests. If we demand that Nigerian should win the next world cup, that is expecting too much. But if we demand that coaches and players get paid, pitches be maintained properly, NFF generate it’s own funds and stop relying on government, etc., these are not unrealistic requests.
If the current NFF can’t deliver on these requests, then perhaps we have square pegs in round holes.
Let them get the job done, or leave the place and allow people who know the job to get in there.
TEN of PESEIRO cannot EQUAL not to even TALK about SURPASSING GENERAL ROAH’S RECORD
I have said it before that this NFF board are new onboard cut them some slack they have not even spent up to 10 months yet on that seat. That said did we all watch the introduction of the NPFL club under 15 tournament? If no can we at least ask you tube for the highlight of those matches and quietly watch them. Almost all the clubs are represented and I was like where were these kids all this while. They play like they were the professionals. Like they were tactically sound, through passes that were out of this world.
Also have you seen how the Npfl now deals with clubs that err. Straight 3 point deduction with à fine in millions. So the clubs seeing that such might even make them relegate are now much more cautious to cause problem at match venues. I mean these and many more are what these new board have started with. They have more to come. And mind you for pesiero they did not employ it is that big head picnic board that did. I mean the very corrupt picnic board who if he was not stopped wanted to go for 3rd term as the nff president. I heard they are having series of meeting on whether to let him go or retain him when his contract expires in June, the senior players as I heard wants him to stay that they are gradually getting used to his all attacking brand of football of course because they don’t trust the corrupt homebased coaches.
The real problem with this present NFF board is however, how to attract sponsors so they can be self sustaining. Believe me Mr Gusau the president of NFF that I heard of is a disciplined man.
Hello beauties. Lovely comments here. Keep it going guys. Peseiro will win big for Nigeria. Rohr failed. XXX
