Former Nigerian forward, Jonathan Akpoborie says Super Eagles duo of Victor Osimhen and Calvin Bassey has what it takes to succeed in the Premier League if they decide to move to England.
Osimhen has been heavily linked with a summer transfer, with both Arsenal and Tottenham considering a move. The clinical frontman has enjoyed an extremely fruitful season with the Serie A giants, notching 18 goals across all competitions this term.
In the same vein, Bassey has been linked with a move to clubs in England, with Aston Villa, now managed by Steven Gerrard, the man, who brought him to Rangers said to be among the frontrunners for his signature.
The versatile defender proved his mettle in Rangers’ UEFA Europa League defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt where he was unarguably the Gers best player of the game.
The Nigerian international followed that up with another spirited display in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side Scottish Cup final win against Hearts on Saturday.
However, reacting to news of their possible move to England, the former Wolfsburg striker told Completesports.com that Osimhen and Bassey have shown the speed, strength and determination to take their game to the next level.
“Playing in the Premier League is no doubt the dreams of many players in the world. And if Osimhen and Bassey decided to chose that path then it’s a good move that should be encouraged.
“I have watched Osimhen closely and I appreciate his enegry, hunger for goals and determination when on the field of play. His performance at Napoli is also an indication that he has giving a good account of himself. So I am not surprised that teams in the Premier League are battling for his signature.
‘Likewise Bassey, whi has really surprised many of us, most especially after his debut performance against the Black Stars of Ghana in the 2022 World Cup qualifying playoffs. He’s confident, pacy and energetic.
“It will be good to see the two players fly the Nigerian flag in the Premier League.”

@CSN for your information Calvin Bassey has been Rangers FC best player most of the season..that is what we have been saying.. around about th time you people were posting artles of Shehu Abdullahi before covereing Bassey stories to the point that game when Bassey recieved man of the match awards which were plenty you would acknowledge Balogun and Aribo’s presence and make no mention on Bassey which is on of the main reasons Eguavoen left Bassey out of the team for AFCON. The Nigerian media as much to blame as the coach you people clamour for the wrong players
We are talking of players with pedigree you are mentioning shehu…..who knows shehu outside of the Nigerian national team?……shehu is one of those players using the national team to sustain their weak football careers and it’s wrong
Exactly my point and CSN is aiding players like Shehu and Musa and all other undeserving players covering them before Players of pedigree like Bassey. this is a main reason some Nigerian Coaches missess perfromances like Bassey all season because they use our media outlets to keep abreast with the goings on in Europe. So Nigeria Media is also failing our team as they are giving the spotlight to the wrong players. Is it not sad that CSN is making statements like quote
“The versatile defender proved his mettle in Rangers’ UEFA Europa League defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt where he was unarguably the Gers best player of the game”
Here is a player who has more minutes than both Balogun and Aribo in Rangers and was litterally undroppable all season even the Dortmund game go and Look if CSN mentioned Bassey’s name in thier review. yet they will have nonsense articles like Quote “Boost for Super Eagles as abdullahi Shehu Returns from injury” Si that not sad?
and again how can a country with abundance of talents which uses its national to aid mediocre players revive their unrevivable careers before bringing happiness to its fans deserve to be at the world Cup? Mbano!! and a country as selfish as Nigeria certainly does not deserve any favours from God especially as he so blessed the same country with talents yet they abuse them and hail mediocre and come and cry when things go wrong. How funny is that Lool!!!
Completsports here is so retard and always a week late in reporting football news!
Felix Agu of werder Bremen has gained an automatic promotion back to the bundesliga… Instead that complete sports report it and also reminds the super eagles handlers that he has already pledge his international allegiance to Nigeria, they will never do that rather, they will be reporting things that are 5-7days late…
I wonder how they are sourcing for their news!
