Former Nigerian goalkeeper, Andrew Aikhoumogbe has revealed that the Super Eagles will be spurred by Morocco’s unprecedented achievement at the just concluded 2022 World Cup and aim for glory at the 2026 World Cup.
Aikhoumogbe stated this on the backdrop of the Atlas Lions’ feat in Qatar where the team became the first African team to reach the semi finals of the World Cup.
Recall that Morocco defeated teams such as Belgium, Spain and Portugal before losing to France 2-0 in the semi finals. They also failed to overcome Croatia in the Third-Place Match as well.
However, Aikhoumogbe in a chat with Completesports.com, stated that it was painful the Super Eagles failed to qualify for Qatar and that the team will be spurred by Morocco’s achievement at the World Cup.
He also urged the players to show commitment and hunger whenever they are invited to represent their fatherland.
“I am really delighted with the achievement of Morocco at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. I am optimistic it will spur other African teams, most especially Nigeria if they qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
“The most important thing is for the players to show extreme commitment and determination because that was what helped the Atlas Lions in Qatar.
“It is a thing of the mind and I am sure the Super Eagles can pick one or two lessons from them in order to prepare them for the big task in 2026.”

The NFF should invite all former Nigerian Internationals to a one-week seminar on what to do about soccer in Nigeria
I don’t think so because football doesn’t run like that.
Super Eagles can not achieve anything as long as we have the same set of people in the NFF.
What do we expect from Super Eagles when NFF have never learned their lessons? They brought Oga Rohr to Nigeria and now Paseiro and we are deceiving ourselves as usual ba?
Am not in for that kę. I am for the truth and no matter the situation, I will keep saying it.
So, NFF like the way Morocco shocked the world but refuse to change their way of doing things?
Putting wrong people in wrong positions will drive the system backward kę.
Anyway, this is the way I sounded during Keshi, Oliseh, Siasia, Oga Rohr Amaju Pinnick and now Oga Paseiro but no has been done. What else can I do to change Nigeria?
Eto’o is doing it for Cameroon but the carbals haven’t changed their ways in Nigeria. Truth is always hot though. Fingers crossed. With the situation of things, I hope Super Eagles will qualify for the next World Cup. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
Super Eagles can’t achieve anything as we have the same negative mentality to manage SE by Pinnic or Gasua; NFF members always hinder SE advance and development to a new era; NFF members are greedy, coruppts, to pay huge money for hiring big quality coach like for example, Dunga, Raymond Domenech, Roberto Martenez, Tite, Frank Deboer who can change SE face to scare and ferocious against any team; there are many things NFF wouldn’t like to do them so that they will develop Nigeria football schools football constituencies and acadmies from primary to sub-primary then secondary school, then unvieristies acadimies which will graduate talented players; second thing , NFF must inact a law that any club at NPLF must be a public company sponsored by native stakeholder or foriegn one; according to this law , the club must put injury, life, accidances, for their players, also the culb coaching crew must be granted life, accidents insurance for all their time contraction; third, in this law local coach or foriegn coach whom NFF contract must put or play with drastic and rigorous defensive style of play with pressing and ferocious style of play for national teams especillay SE, for clubs the law must not campell them to play this style, they free to play with; fourth, according to the law SE hirded coach must select his players on merit and their interaction in their clubs( if player is active and interactive) he must be recalled, he must also recall them with quality to do this style of play; fifthly, the hired coach must recall quality players from NPLF who are active and interactiveto SE; if NFF inact this law I think NPLF and SE will be incredable and strong.NFF must set up a workshop in order to solve Super Eagles team and NPFL clubs decline with recalling football experts from Nigeria and from developed coutries in football so that they will put or establish for Nigeria football advance.
Not a fan of the military rule but you do have some valid points there
As usual the Dosu led group has spoken still waiting for Rufai and co. To continue.
Point of correction four four two, School/grassroot football was destroyed under the military govt. and politicians are the ones perpetuating it. The grassroot development of our football- like taking football back to school is not the work of NFF but that of the Ministry of sports and youth development. I totally agree with you that for our football to grow and make any meaningful impact in the footballing World, we MUST TAKE OUR FOOTBALL BACK TO SCHOOL (PRIMARY, SECONDARY AND HIGHER INSTITUTIONS). If we invest 5 billion dollars in our local league today, it will amount to a waste of money because it will not grow our football, it will only facilitate the flooding of our league with footballers from other African Countries and beyond.
