Despite the hue and cry that trailed Super Eagles’ ouster in the Round of 16 of the 33rd Africa Cup of Nations currently going on in Cameroon, a former President of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Alhaji Aminu Maigari, has taken the positives from the three-time African Champions 1-0 defeat to the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia.
Maigari told Completesports.com in an exclusive interview that in spite of the defeat, there are positives to be taken from the Super Eagles’ campaign in Cameroon, reasoning that the squad played attractive football at the tournament which had been lacking in the senior national team under expartriate coaches.
“I had expected the Super Eagles to go beyond the Round of 16 at the tournament. They showed great form and character right for. the group games. But that is football for you,” Maigari told Completesports.com.

“I enjoyed every bit of their games, they played like a team well handled. You could see the finesse in their game and I commend coach Eguavoen for doing a wonderful work on the team despite the short period he was in charge.”
Maigari added: “This goes to confirm my stand on Nigerian coaches. You remember when former FIFA President, Sepp Blatter, wrote to commend me for having the trust and faith in one of our own, (late) Stephen Keshi, to appoint him as Super Eagles coach.
“Blatter did that twice. The second time was after our Nations Cup win in 2013 in South Africa. So, I believe Eguavoen did well. The solution to our football problems lies in our own hands.
“Like Blatter said in his (second) commendation letter to me, it is only indigenous coaches that know their players’ character, mentality, culture of the people and attitude.
“They work with commitment, determination because they know that they don’t have any other country than theirs. Like I said earlier, it is unfortunate that the Eagles lost out, but I think they put a massively improved performance than we had been seeing them in recent years,” Maigari stressed.

Thank you Alhaji Aminu Maigari, it is good every region joined hands to appoint our own on the position. Those positives will be built upon definitely, and that’s how a system works. Good luck coach Austin Eguavoen as you lead the Super Eagles to the World.
Super Eagles players have spoken in support;
Majority of the Super eagles fans apart from the agitated section are in affirmative:
CAF has spoken by declaring Mr. Austin Eguavoen as the best coach
Now former NFF presidents are talking in favour.
HOW LONG ARE WE TO WAIT TO HEAR FROM THE NFF MOSTLY NOW THAT SUPER EAGLES NEXT MATCH IS LESS THAN 2 MONTHS? AMAJU, IF NA OYINBO “WITH NO CERTIFICATE” UNA WANT LET US KNOW, IF NA LOCAL COACH ABEG STILL LET US KNOW.
Best coach of group stage wey the weakest team for R16 come flog. How person go collect certificate when he never finish his last paper for scl.
Our own Our own that is the problem, there is no shame is acknowledging the fact that those foreign guys are better than ours. If we are so keen about promoting our own then we should build our football and get our footballer to stay home instead of going to Europe, what about that?, most of these nothern Africans play at home right ? so we should emulate so we can have our local coach handle our teams, until then no talk. Apart from KESHI I dont see nobody, Keshi qualified Togo for the WC, he lead Mali to the AFCON and won the AFCON with the SE, so when you are mentioning local coach stop mentioning KESHI with all these amateur we have around now. Go out there and get a real foreign coach and not a quack one and you will see the difference
Even Brazil and Argentina have players playing in Europe so we we are not the only ones having players play abroad. The best players from North Africa, Salah and Mahrez play in Europe.
It is good to develop our local league but we have to point to prove by asking our players to stay at home.
You’re among those people who carry the inferiority syndrome that anything white is better.
I support coach from anywhere (Black or White) but I won’t by the inferiority mentality.
It is now time to get over Rohr and support Eguavoen. We must defeat Ghana by all cost with our own.
If the apoint him as coach. Nigeria is heading to another disaster as always with local coaches.with him forget about world cup you will see in a few mounths time
We will qualify for the World Cup.
Vincent, you made sense though the news has been let out. Eguavoen is on a 4 year contract.
I doubt if this writer “Monkey Post” is a Nigerian or an African. Your reasoning lacks merit and I support what Maigari said 100%.

PINNICKK SHINE YOURE EYE!
NONSENSE
Please stop this madness na..what is all these?
I say my mind here without sentiments. If the 4-year contract purportedly arranged between NFF and Eguavoen on the Super Eagles is true, then it means that, Nigerians and the Super Eagles will return to the worst days of the National team’s performance in international competitions, just the same way they had their worst AFCON outing under Coach Eguavoen, for the first time in decades. No sentiment intended pls. The truth is that, Eguavoen may initially to start well, but he will run out of ideas too soon and have nothing more to offer. At that point, the Super Eagles will become chickens again look too ordinary and will find it hard to qualiify for anything , and then the NFF will get tired of him “GO BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD” as they always say, scout for a foreign coach, after 4 wasted years with EGUAVOEN, with the Super Eagles in shambles. Let’s watch and see how the drama unfolds.
Let us watch and see.
Thank you Alhaji Maigari ; even though you yourself messed up as most of your predecessors also messed up by not paying our local coaches properly with good conditions of services as they enjoyed in their playing days ; you know late Keshi won that Afcon with accumulated unpaid salaries that he would probably paid in his grave , let alone 1% salary increase, and despite of reaching 2nd round of WC with accumulated unpaid salaries, Keshi was rewarded with sack) .
An average foreign coach a.k.a Belmadi’s trainee was paid uninterrupted salary for solid 2 good years with clause of staying in his country, at the time there was no Covid ; at the end Rohr could only get Afcon bronze after been bundled out in semifinal by Algerian local coach Belmadi; and sent parking in the 1st round of WC , having overwhelmed and at the end of Oga Rohr salaries was fraudulently jacked up on paper ( because we all knew it was business enterprise with his business partner Amaju Fraud-Pinnick).
Nevertheless, I give you kudos at least you gave Keshi the opportunity to set record and winning the last Afcon that a white man Rohr couldn’t win its sliver in any countries . Thank you also coming out to speak the truth as Big Sege have always been a lone fighter ; until Eguafon was given opportunity where he had exhumed the much lost Nigerian known football philosophy mass attack -mass defence , topping his first round group with mouthwatering football at its best ; as against Rohr that had written off SE ahead of Egypt game since we don’t have players in Liv , Man City etc how can we stand a chance against Egypt.
When SE is in precarious situation; NFF would remember they have their quality local Coaches; with hell’s type of condition of services that JM , Pep, Klop put together would fail foreign coach Bonfere jo was messed up the chance of our qualification for 2002 WC .
Bonfere Jo messed up our WC qualifying with Sudan leading beating everyone; Nigeria was in bad position that draw is total elimination, and 1, 2,3 goals would have been useless , because of head to head rules and advantages points ; anything short of 4 on replied goals would have been disastrous; and lastly the game is an away at the abattoir complete sandy field that no team ever got draw ; Bonfere was kicked out , and late Amodu came to the rescue with unpaid salaries and beat Sudan in their home sandy stadium with 1, 2,3&4 unreplied goals to book the WC ticket .
You have still not get over this your Belmadi ring tone. Where is that same Belmadi now? His team could not even win a single match. That is to show he is not invisible so pls find another thing to say.
@Israel Thanks for your write up my Brother
Even though we know that Football Administration in Nigeria is Riddled with Corruption and corrupt individuals but on this topic i stand with Alhaji Maigari about using our home grown Coaches and for for yhose still running after the Slave Masters for football coaching pls wake up from slept because even those Aliens knows they do much much for us in our football other than to collect their usual large cheques, i remember at one point one of them told our football administrator’s to have confidence in our own Coaches and help them grow to high level(Las Largerbeck)@Ralph My brother take a chill pill No Caucasian Coach will come here to help your football and footballers to grow ok Nigeria is not the only country having it’s players playing abroad and that doesn’t stop any country investing and growing their own football which is lacking in nigeria currently but that is not an excuse for hiring foreign Coaches that doesn’t even understand the psychology our players ok @Monkey post Pls Those Coaches you mentioned their Names how many Trophy have they won with Switzerland? Any country that is serious to win Trophy especially World Cup will never go for a foreign because charity begin at home and for your information no country has ever won the World Cup with a foreign Coach and it will never happen because it goes with Petriotism not just football alone and which can never be bought with money.
So let’s encourage our own if we are serious people. Peace
I am not going to say anything different from what I said before and during the Africa Cup of Nations participation. “let fall and rise with our own and say no to foreign coaches and corrupt Amaju Pinnick and NFF”
Yes we fell with our own in Cup of Nations , next we will rise with our own in another tournament. Lets borrow a leaf from the Germans who have won the World Cup disgracing Brazil with their own and failed with that their own yet they didn’t complain but kept faith in him.
Nigeria is not buoyant economy that we will be wasting dollars on amateur foreign coaches to achieve nothing.
Is part of economic development falling and rising with our own. Net gain will be a positive one.
Winning a trophy goes beyond skin color but patriotism. That being said it is only a well supported indigenous coach with patriotic and hungry players for glory will win Nigeria a world cup.
Yes Blatter though corrupt too was right.
Lets say no to foreign coaches and kick against corrupt decisions of NFF.
GOD BLESS SUPPER EAGLES, GOD BLESS NIGERIA
@Tayo ; Belmadi has since gone home in the first round where CAF adjudged Eguafon to be the best among all.
This is also a prove that Oga Rohr was stagnant for almost 6 years with SE , his business partner NFF recommended for him to , immediately embarked on a retraining course but till date , your super Rohr never bothered to improve himself; the result are glaring in this Afcon; Belmadi that was the tutored in chief to your clueless and stagnant Rohr ; was himself tutored by coaches who have improved themselves tactically ( that is what your Super Rohr cannot do with 5 years preparing his team, until he was kicked out )
I am not a fan of Eguafon, but his great performance , completely transforming SE just within 4 training sessions and without salary not even promised 20% of Rohr’s entitled salary ; he has done well to win me to his side for now because he himself still have some attributes of Oga Rohr in him that he needs to shed , and for that to be assured ; NFF too should be prepared to pay him a decent and uninterrupted salary as was the case with Oga Rohr in his first 2 tenure-4 years on the job; it shouldn’t be the Oliseh’s treatment who never touched salary for one month in his entire 6 months on the job , with double dead body palaver of having to be paying all his assistants and caring of players from his personal pocket ( what a wicked world Blackman against fellow Blackman )
@Israel Thanks for your write up my Brother

Because even those Aliens knows that they won’t do much for us in our football development other than the usual scouting of foreign born players for a quick fix then collect their usual large cheques run back home when the bubble burst as always the those journey men in Africa. Hope we all
Remember at one point one of them told our football administrator’s to have confidence in our own Coaches and help them grow to high level(Las Largerbeck)@Ralph My brother take a chill pill No Caucasian Coach will come here to help your football and footballers to grow ok Nigeria is not the only country having it’s players playing abroad and that doesn’t stop any country investing and growing their own football which is lacking in nigeria currently but that is not an excuse for hiring foreign Coaches that doesn’t even understand the psychology our players ok @Monkey post Pls Those Coaches you mentioned their Names how many Trophy have they won with Switzerland? Nigeria will never learn it’s always marry go round. They have tried with local coaches and always fail becuase they aren’t good enough
He is entitled to his Opinion. You can disagree, but talk to him in a respectful manner.
But MONKEY didn’t respect his audience when he used profanity?
@Kd10 ; thanks for your brilliant submission on the subject matter ; May your fountain of knowledge never dries. If anyone read this your great analysis and chooses to continue to be in the wilderness; then , it would be too bad .
Many are still suffering from the hangover of incurable slavery mentality no matter of exposure: those you would have expected to reasoned well ; it is other way
Black nations with complex and corruption are always at the receiving end and dumping ground for the white skins quack coaches.
Until I watched the sacked Ghana Coach post match interview in Afcon , I had thought no other football federations would be able to compete with our own Amaju Fraud-Pinnick for gold medal in corruption; you can just imagined, in this century the sacked coach was corruptly packaged without fear of God , nor conscience of the negative effect of killing their football to such extent Ghana Football officials had to arrange interpreter that would be interpreting the anchor man questions to the coach ; in a country of English speaking country employed a coach that cannot effectively communicate with his players in this jet age !!! ( the last time I remembered anything near this was decades ago while we are growing up watching WW American Restyling of Mity Igor who would probably must have been brought from his village due to his raw power ) .
Even in an insane world , no one could have ever imagined a country would take their corruption to such shameful level ; no wonder , the so called foreign coach set a record that has never been experienced in Ghana football history of participating in Afcon; not winning a single match and coming last in a group of Afcon tournament and not WC !!! ( I must admit commend our current NFF lead by Amaju pinnick , at least they have been beaten to the sliver medal in corruption).
For the good of our country, and to settle for once that even though Eguafon not the best local coach we have, but with his incredible performance within 10 day of handling SE, he is 1000 miles ahead of the clueless Rohr a.k.a Belmadi’s trainee ;even to the blinds Eguafon standout transformation of SE within few days is a miracle that no one expected; I therefore would pray for the corrupt Ghanaian officials to complete their business by hiring Oga Rohr so as to bury their football as already killed by his counterpart quack white coach
@DeStar I see you are writing out of ignorance and lack of knowledge. You talk about the Coach of Ghana needing an interpreter to talk to his players as such a bad thing. You mentioned that he set a record for Ghana by not winning a single match in this AFCON but are you aware that it was this same coach who almost qualified them for Semifinal in South Africa 2010 World Cup? I bet you don’t know that history. This same coach was brought in to steady steady the ship after they lost to SA in the early stage of WCQ and he managed to get them across to the play-off stage dumping out SA on same point but better goal diffrence.
You you can be rambling yab…..yab….yab and praising your 9 man consortium coaches of failures and support their retention for the WCQ play-off against Ghana, I know the boys will play their hearts out to win Ghana but the true result of this bad decision will come during WC tournament in Quatar where we shall be disgraced due to poor tactics
Cerezo brought team cohesion, team spirit, will Cerezo want to deputise Rohr, then? If? Cos Rohr knows the tactical department and a slice of his and Cerezo will make the team thrive, but no fans will say why will Cerezo be deputy, If only Rohr can come back, he was that coach we never appreciated, just common Tunisia see how we fumbled, Bukina Faso taught us, but it is what it is, we won’t accept that Nigerian fans and those who think they know caused us were we are. See now, even with the way we are going Ghana may beat Nigeria, and it is when we accept reality una eyes go clear. Rohr wasn’t that fantastic, but he knows our African game in a rigorous environment that fans are coaches.
This post is really made by monkey.
@Dr Banks ; I don’t have issue against your opinion and submission. Many I agreed with you particularly where you had referred to the unreasonable consortium of coaching team with two of them adding ambassadorial titles to their coaching roles and one , I have my reservation that we would not perform well in WC proper ( but , don’t let us jump the gun , Ghana are never pushed over in football, particularly when it is against Nigerian team , they will be ready to die ok the pitch , any Ghanian team would prefer to die than loading to Nigerian team ; so let us cross that hurdle first before thinking of our performance in the WC)
This is the best analysis from you, at least you can pass your messages and submission without calling your fellow forum members outrageous names , particularly a medical practitioner based in the western world you claimed .
I will also not agree with you running down the system that produced you just because you are in now in the western world; some of us too in the platform are also professionals that are also respected in and outside Nigeria with lot of international exposure you can’t ever imagined ( I was disgusted with your remarks earlier on this subject matter and today again in another subject matter , where you had called me out with a language that is not expected of your status.
One love , one Nigeria
According to Wikipedia, former Genoa coach Davide Ballardini is the new coach of Ghana.
I’ve checked other news sites, and am unable to confirm if this is true. Also checked GFA website and twitter. No news there.
