Former Nigerian winger, Tijani Babangida believes the Super Eagles will do everything to qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, in a bid to make amend of their inability not to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.
The three–time champions and four-time runners-up, Nigeria will know their group opponents when the draw for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification series is staged at the SuperSport Studio in Johannesburg, South Africa on Tuesday evening.
Super Eagles who crashed out in the round of 16 of 2021 AFCON in Cameroon are in pot 1 alongside Senegal, Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, Cameroon, Algeria, Mali, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Ghana and DR Congo.
The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations is expected to kick off from June 23 to July 23. The draw could be held in South Africa.
However, in an interview with Completesports.com, Tijani stated that the disappointment of not qualifying for Qatar will spur the team to glory, starting with the qualifying campaigns.
“It’s a big disappointment that the Super Eagles failed to make appreciable impact at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon and also failing to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar,” the former Atlanta Olympic gold medalist told Completesports.com.
“However, I am optimistic that such disappointment will only spur the Super Eagles to be more hungry for success. The players will be more determined to make a big statement of intent.”

Yes o WE will RISE if only NFF can give us a FOREIGN COACH that is TACTICALLY SMART enough to know that PLAYERS like SENIOR MAN is not a MILDFIELDER
LMFAO!!
Yes we will rise, if NFF appoint a coach has a pedigree and know African football generally , Nigerian football especially , also he must stay in Nigeria then he must develop NPLF also recall players from this based leauge to Super Eagles team; the coach must applys a pattern of playing for SE just combative and ferocious defensive football in order to return SE to previous era of golory. The new coach must choose a quality players for SE to do thier job tightly; strongly, the coach must have new football concepts for SE to develop their performance.
@ Hassan, you guys are funny oo! IT IS NOT THE JOB OF THE NATIONAL TEAM COACH (LOCAL OR FOREIGN) TO DEVELOP THE LOCAL LEAGUE!!!. I sincerely don’t get you guys that keep on saying this. What is the job of the clubs that all claim to be professional & the LMC? Where in world is it the national coaches responsibility? With this mentality is the reason we can’t be a world power. Madness.
Might be time to get our calculators again. Rohr really spoilt us. Clowns here took his work for granted claiming that anyone could do what he did. We got Mr no nonsense and the result was total nonsense
Tijani babangida abeg go seat down. You guys follow dey castigate rohr tactics as if you can do the job. All of una ex Internationals join hands castigate rohr style of play but got the results. Tijani your mate for Ajax na World class coach’s now for different European club’s. You seat down in sokoto dey follow old politicians for back ndi ara. Take Monkey to America. Him still be monkey and can never leave trees.
Appointing Augustine Eguavon as head coach of the senior national team is like promoting a donkey to a horse.
I join my voice to say eagles will not struggle again if and only if NFF can get a coach that is tactically sound.
It is only in Nigeria that the FA will be asking national team coach to develop our local football.
Very funny, it is like asking southgate to come and develop premiership.
Guys has any other african country behave like this. @monkey post, Dr.Drey, Dr.Bank please make Una bail me out, I might not be current. Nigeria we prove to be intelligent but we do the opposite it is only when we find ourselves outside the shore that we behave normal.
God which kind DNA you gave us self.
Hahahaha
AM with YOU my BRO…
These people have started again with their sugar coated tongue.
It is well. I pray we qualify. If country like ghana kumasi can beat Nigeria, that means any country in Africa can do the same.
Give the job back to Eguavoen, give them another clean slate. Really lets know how you intend to pay this foreign coaches you plan on bringing. Because the moment you owe them, that’s when we start to hear because he wasn’t paid that’s why he is under performing. Imagine a foreigner coming to pocket N30 million a month and a local coach that u pay N5 million a month, smh
Pay local coaches 100billion a month. He can’t perform or read game and no sound tactics and game plan. Mark my Word. World cup is coming, watch those Africa teams that went there with black coaches. They will come back fast because world cup is not anybody mate. Is not where you will learn work. Is where men exchange wisdom and show supremacy tactically.
