Former Nigerian international, Etim Esin has advised the Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro to select players for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations based on merit and form.
Recall that Nigeria has been pitted in Group A alongside host, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau.
However, in a chat with Completesports.com, Esin stated that with the array of talents at Peseiro’s disposal, he should not be sentimental with his final selection of players for the tournament.

“I must confess that Peseiro has some of the best players that can win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
“But then, he must ensure that the players that will be selected for the tournament will be based on merit, form and not sentiment.
“If he can get this right I really believe the Super Eagles can lift the trophy. He must avoid any sort of pressure to overshadow his selection.”
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has directed all the 24 countries that will be participating in the biennial competition to submit their final squads 10 days before the start of the competition.

Nigeria is the only country blaming its foreign-born, foreign-based and Oyibo players for everything negative. Yer most Senegalese and Algerian players are French. We hate ourselves, and do not know how blessed we are with human resources
SUPER EAGLE CAN WIN NEXT AFCON BASE ON IF COACH PASEIRO CHOOSE PLAYERS BASED ON MERIT AND LEAVE OUT IRREGULAR, INCONSISTENT, BENCHWARMER PLAYERS OUT OF THE TEAM. He should not pick players base on EGO, SENIORITY OR EXPERIENCE(without fitness).
COMPLY WITH THIS DIRECTIONS, then winning AFCON 2024 IS GUARANTEE.
Another advice for PASEIRO is that, as super eagle has a lot of good forwards presently, as a technical man, there should an ALTERNATIVE POSITION CONVERSION. FOR Example:
** AKPOM can be converted as attacking midfielder OR supporting striker
** DESSERS can be converted as 7, 8, 11
** MOFFI, ORBAN, BONIFACE can play anywhere at the front as 7, 8, 9, 11
**
AND LASTLY, THERE ARE SOME OLD INCONSISTENT PLAYERS THAT NEEDED TO DROP OUT OF THE TEAM DUE TO LACK OF FORM/INJURY (E.G. Benzena, Aguero were dropped out of world cup cup due to injury that will last for ONE WEEK period)
Etim John Esin in one of the top 10 footballers I’ve watched in Nigeria since 1980. He must know what quality is all about.
He should live or die by his selection. He shouldn’t allow politicians and administrators to influence or determine his selection. If he does well, all praise to him, and if he doesn’t he shouldn’t make excuses about selections being forced on him.
This Oga Paseiro can not do anything about the selection of the team because he doesn’t have the charisma.
What do we expect from a coach who allows the AJĘWOMASAN the debtor Nigeria football Federation, to cut his salary?
NFF will never hire a coach who will select his players based on current form.
As I said before, I don’t expect too much from the gaffer and his employer shikena. All the best Super Eagles. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
The last time the super Eagles won a competition the team was blended with both home base and overseas players.
We need to go back to doing that, period.
Very poor thinking, there is a thing called evolution. By your assessment, if we have 23 strong players who are head and shoulder above their local counterparts, we should drop 6 of the strong players and take 6 weak local players and we are bringing the afcon home because that was how we won in 2013. By the way a certain foreign born was instrumental in 2013 afcon success(Victor Moses). Can you imagine if there was a policy by NFF to have only nigerian born players, we might not have won the 2013 afcon.
Victor Moses isn’t foreign-born. Just saying.
And no foreign-born has been instrumental in all our Nations Cup triumphs.
Not saying, they should not be invited. Just telling it as it is.
It is foolishness to keep pilotng in a direction that biennially leads the Super Eagles to a shanky errons and insipid displays in tourney like AFCON. I hope we all have seen the number of afcon trophies the national team has won since 2013!? If the hurt ,shame and disappointments Nigeria has gained f rom using favouritism to select players have not done on us as soccer nation in Africa, and we want to see another shock again at CAN 2023, let Sports Ministry, NFF, Technical Crew, Government officials , players’ family and friends forward the names of their wards to Jose Peseiro to make a final list of 27-man squad for AFCON 2023. All hands have to support the Titanic, suggest and not to dictate or impose. I seen the jubilation with a new afcon trophy ,if things are done holistically toward the tournament in Ivorian nation.
Nigeria is a SICK country!
An abnormal entity – upside down reasoning full ground! Kai!
