Former Nigerian international Dimeji Lawal has expressed confidence in the ability of Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface to rediscover his goal-scoring form for the senior national team.
The Bayer Leverkusen star has come under heavy criticisms for his lack of goals with the Super Eagles at the just concluded 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Boniface, who has not scored a goal in twelve appearances for the Super Eagles, has often been criticized for not replicating his club form for the senior national team.
His fine form with Leverkusen has seen him score six goals and bag one assist in ten matches so far this season in the Bundesliga.

Last season, Noniface netted 21 goals and bagged 10 assists in 34 for Xabi Alonso’s charges, who won an impressive domestic double.
However, in an interview with Completesports.com, Lawal stated that the Nigerian international will redsicover his goals in the Super Eagles soon.
“I don’t think anyone should blame Boniface for his inability to translate his goal scoring form for Bayer Leverkusen to the Super Eagles. We have seen it often times that players score goals for their respective clubs in Europe, but when it comes to African football, they are not productive.
“I am not saying Boniface is not good enough. If he had been dropped out of that team and we lost that game without him, people would ask Eguavoen questions. That’s why it is difficult for coaches to make decisions.
“Remember that Kanu Nwankwo played in all the Nations Cup before he retired, but he never scored a single goal. Will anyone tell me any coach inviting Kanu is stupid? However, I believe Boniface will rediscover his goal-scoring form for the Super Eagles soon.
“Watching Boniface score in one of the best leagues in the world is something we all appreciate. And it will be wrong not to invite him to the senior national team. I am sure such a coach will be inviting trouble for himself from Nigerians.”

Olaosebikan North, Arara South and Obiakor East all still believe in Boniface. Lolz
Kaii! Nigerians!! Why are you people so intellectually challenged for crying out loud??
You are here screaming that someone who hasn’t been known to have any type of scoring record for Nigeria, will soon “REDISCOVER” his goal scoring form????
Abeg, please clear me if I am mistaken here or missing anything, but how does that statement even make any sense whatsoever????
And no, I am not being anal, it’s just that this is way beyond elementary/schoolboy reasoning error and must be called out!! There are people all over the world reading the things you post on this site and yet all one finds is errors galore, both in reasoning and even grammar! Is this the best we have in Nigeria?? Or has our education system become so defunct that these are the most advanced wordsmiths that we have?? hmmmm Nna na waaa o!
Field Marshall Jbob…Don’t try 2 misinterprete what Dimeji Lawal said. Victor Boniface will rediscover his goal scoring form soon 4 the super eagles means that he’ll be scoring henceforth 4 the SE just like the way he use 2 score 4 his club Bayern Leverkusen…
You only can only “rediscover” something that you had already done or established already previously – You cannot “rediscover” something that you have never done with regularity before.
Olamide, I know what he was trying to say, but you have also made the mistake that I was pulling the writer of the article up for – firstly, we don’t know if he (Lawal) actually said that or if it was the article writer’s interpretation of what Lawal said, secondly, regardless of who said what, you cannot say that a person who has not previously been scoring goals for the SE of Nigeria, not his club, will now rediscover his scoring form for Nigeria. Scoring at Leverkusen and scoring for the SE are two different things and if he had said that about Boni’s scoring form for Leverkusen, then that would have been in keeping and made sense but saying that specifically about Boni’s goal scoring form for Nigeria is semantically incorrect – if you know you know and if you didn’t then you’ve learnt something new today. We need to make things make sense, otherwise our society won’t be able to differentiate little things like this that actually mean a lot and as a result will not grow in the right direction.
