Former Kwara United coach, Samson Unuanel has urged the Nigerian football Federation (NFF) not to hire Johannes Bonfrere as Super Eagles coach.
Unuanel stated this on the backdrop of report that the Atlanta Olympic gold medal coach has formally put in his application to become the senior national team coach.
Recall that the call for Rohr’s sack intensified after the team struggled to earn a draw against Cape Verde in their last group game of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
Although they qualified for the play-offs, the performance did not sit well with most Nigerians who are concerned that the Super Eagles may not make it out of the play-offs where they will meet teams that are more composed and deadlier in front of goal.
In an interview with Completesports.com, Unuanel stated that the NFF should focus on a new set of coaches that can add value to the growth of the Super Eagles.
“To be candid, it is a slap on our football that Bonfrere has tendered his application to coach the Super Eagles. Yes, he won the Atlanta Olympic gold for Nigeria in 1996 but football has moved on since then.
If the Super Eagles must make a big difference in Africa and World Cup, then the NFF must get serious by thinking of a sound coach that will add value to the growth of our football.”

Ha had nothing to offer, but better than one who is downing the team; Raw Rhor
You sound like a demented clown. Rohr has only been to 2 tournaments- the World Cup and AFCON. We were never gonna win the World Cup so no one can hold that against him. As for the AFCON, how did we perform before he took over? We didn’t qualify. Infact, we missed 2 afcons. If he was able to come 3rd in his debut AFCON, why won’t he do better when he appears next year?
@Oga Dennis,
“We were never gonna win the World Cup ….” That statement is extremely demotivating, you’d agree? If qualified–in this generation–I’ll probably not have a problem with it. But NEVER?
Remember, someone had bought the tissue Messi wiped his nose with at a reception when he left Barcelona at a huge sum. His recent Ballon d’Or provided another opportunity to restock the sample. At this very moment, scientists are culturing his DNA with a view to starting the cloning process. Imagine having even five Messilets in the SE. Won’t we set out hands on that cup?
@Kanga A completely of Topic but Messi did not deserve the last 2 Ballon Do’or let us be honest. The Ballon Do’or is a ploy now to elevate Messi over Ronaldo as they can’t seem to justifiably argue the case on the field of play. lol I really don’t know what upsets me more Messi winning the Ballondor or ROhr now low.. any back to the topic AWAY with ROHR!!!!!!!!!
@Ugo Iwunze
Chill down my brother. What will be will be. Rohr didn’t start badly. He took us to new heights, but then can you divorce soccer from the toxic Nigerian politics? They only needed to force his index finger into a dish of palm oil. And now his whole body is smeared. Would you have resisted? How about your pay?
