Former Nigeria international, Ben Akwuegbu, has exclusively confirmed to Completesports.com, the death of his elder Sister, Mrs Ngozi Catherine Iheanatu, under a ‘mysterious’ circumstance.
Mrs Iheanatu, according to the Akwuegbu, died at the age of 58 years.
“I’m in tears. I’m in severe pains over the death of my elder sister, late Ngozi Catherine Iheanatu (Nee Akwuegbu),” the one time Super Eagles and Stum Gratz of Austria striker told Completesports.com.
“It’s really heartbreaking because my sister died under a ‘mysterious’ circumstance in her husband’s house in Alaike, Obowo, Imo State, on 20th July, 2021.

“Yes, ‘mysterious’ because she was alone in the house because her husband traveled to Jos, Plateau State.
“At the point of her death, it looked like she had a struggle with a ‘yet to be identified’ person or persons.”
Akwuegbu added: “She managed to call her sister and was shouting ‘hello’, ‘hello’, hello’. Her suspected assailants made away with her mobile phone probably to cover their tracks.
“After several calls by our other sister and husband failed to connect, some relations were sent to the house at about 12:45pm only to discover her lifeless body with particles of bread falling from her mouth, her stomach already swollen and body decaying.”
Akwuegbu discloses further that the late Ngozi Iheanatu’s husband is already back home from his trip to Jos and that they are already considering carrying out an autopsy with a view to ascertaining the cause of the death.
“We know for a fact that there was a ‘family squabbles. But at the moment, we are not hastely concluding anything until an autopsy is carried out.
“Already, her husband has returned from his trip and presently at home,” Akwuegbu said.
