Former Nigerian midfielder, Jonathan Akpoborie has tasked the Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr to use Friday’s game against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon as a platform to unearth players that will be useful for the team ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Recall that the German tactician invited some new players such as Terem Moffi, Peter Olayinka, Abraham Marcus, Valentine Ozonwafor, and Samson Tijani to the squad that will face Cameroon ON June 4 in Austria and Mexico on July 3 in the USA.
However, the former Wolfsburg star told Completesports.com that the German tactician should ensure some of the players are giving the opportunity to prove their worth in the friendly games.
Akpborie also insisted that he would be delighted to see the true potential of in form Lorient striker, Moffi and Peter Olayinka going by incredible season in Europe.

“I don’t think Rohr will be under pressure if he decides to use the new players he invited for the game against Cameroon because for me the purpose of the encounter is to unearth new stars that will give other players real competition in the Super Eagles.
“However, I would like to see the duo of Terem Moffi and Peter Olayinka in the Super Eagles line up against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon based on their performance in the outgoing season in Europe.”

20 players should be enough to play the two games if non of the players get injured along the way. The good thing about the numbers in camp is,that every play would most likely get some playing time. There are a few players I would have liked to see play in the friendly, such as Alhassan yusuf, nwobodo in midfield, chidera ejuke on the wings and sadiq umar (who is out due to club engagement) in attack. I would have also liked to see some new and talented centre defenders in the team. Right now Troost Ekong is the reliable defender in the camp now and he played last season in the English championship. So we need more capable central defenders to strengthen the team. There are so many talented Nigerian players out there who are not being noticed because they play in modest leagues and clubs but if given the chance they will prove themselves.
for me, the purpose of the encounter is to beat Cameroon. Nothing like friendly.
Proudly Nigerian.
This friendly is not friendly at all. Cameroon have not beaten Nigeria since 1989, so they are hungry and will play as such. As for us, we are not in a charitable mood either, and our mission is to prolong their misery by inflicting 2 more painful defeats on them.
I previously called for cancellation of this game, because I don’t want us to gift them a victory by fielding a sub-standard team. As it is, the camp is buzzing with quality, and I am convinced we have the players needed to not only give Cameroon a good game, but to also give them a good whipping. For me, every match against Cameroon is a new opportunity to avenge the DAYLIGHT ROBBERY of the 1988 Afcon final. Let’s take the fight to them!
Thanks Pompei. But I think the last time they won us was the year 2000. In our last encounter at the 2019 Afcon, I was very happy with the strength of our squad – from our GOALKEEPER all the way to our forward line.
You are right, Deo! And that was perhaps the most painful of the Afcon final defeats. Man, we don see something for Cameroon hand sha! Our recent spankings of Cameroon has helped to soothe the pain a bit. Let us continue our rehabilitation come Friday by inflicting more wounds on the Lions.
I need Paul to start let him fire 2 goals before the half time
