Indications that Jose Peseiro will be on the bench when the Super Eagles tackle their Sao Tome counterparts in an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom capital have emerged with confirmation that the Portuguese-born coach has submitted a squad list to the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Completesports.com reports.
An official source at the Dankaro Football House secretariat of the NFF told Completesports.com in an exclusive chat on condition of anonymity that Peseiro will take charge of the Super Eagles in Uyo while he is still negotiating a new contract.
Peseiro’s contract expired in July 2023 and he is currently discussing a new contract with the NFF. The Nigeria football governing body wants him to take a pay cut to continue as coach.
“I can confirm that Peseiro is still our national coach and will be in charge of the Super Eagles against Sao Tome on September 9 in Uyo,” the source told Completesports.
com.
“He has submitted a list of players for the game in line with FIFA’s regulation that the invite must reach the respective clubs of the players at least 15 days before the game.

“He couldn’t have picked the players if he won’t be in charge of the team. He has also spoken to the players and the majority of them have confirmed their availability for the match.
“The coach is happy coaching the Super Eagles and I am optimistic he would accept the pay cut to lead the Nigerian team to AFCON next January.”
“All these talks about sacking Peseiro and his being replaced by Eguavoen, Finidi or Salisu are not true. The NFF and Peseiro are still negotiating and I am very sure they will reach an agreement soon.
“Nigerians should ignore all the rumours regarding who will handle the Super Eagles because Peseiro wants to continue,” our impeccable source disclosed.
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles camp will open at the Godswill Akpabio International stadium in Uyo the Akwa Ibom state capital on September 4 for the match against Sao Tome and Principe on September 9.

Yet another chaotic preparation leading up to an international match. Will most likely bleed into next January’s Nations Cup tournament in The Ivory-Coast.
It Better Peseiro stays and complete his assignment. After the AFCON his fate can be decided and base on his performance. One coach qualifying a team and another coach taking the team to major tournament like AFCON is out of place and coat of many colors
Keep deceiving yourselves, NFF. If you are that serious, by now, the gaffer would have gotten a new contract.
I’m wondering if the senior national team contract is now what we are discussing like 2023 elections, right? I am ashamed of you all, NFF.
What of coach Waldrum contact CSN? You would have asked the NFF that, too. Nigeria is finished under these our oppressors, period.
Nigeria is in mess, and to do anything right in Nigeria, only God can make it happen. I am seriously sorry for this country. We called Nigeria.
Nigerians are less concerned. If NFF like, they should renew both Waldrum and Paseiro contracts. We are watching you NFF very closely. Fingers crossed. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
you are very correct my friend, they should keep on deceiving themself,NFF you don’t have money and you think white man will continue without not signing their renewal .LOOOL
Let him invite mostly homebase players. We don’t have resources to invite all those big boys for common Sao tome and besides we have already qualified
We may not have the luxury of friendly matches before the nation’s cup, this will be an opportunity to continue to build team chemistry and formation, maybe one or two new additions will be fine but to completely use a new team is foolish for any coach to do
I agree. Why lose the opportunity of team cohesion whilst trying out a few new players, instead of home based players who are unlikely to play in the Afcon tournament?
Other comment is that Peseiro doesn’t want to leave so the NFF are thinking of extending his tenure! What a lame excuse. How well has the Super Eagles performed with him in charge? We lost games by 4 goals on a couple of occasions. When did that happen last?
The Gusau led NFF gives concern. Especially when it didn’t extend contract of Waldrum, a man who taken Nigeria to an unbeaten WC campaign. A lot to build on there.
if since the sack of GENERAL ROAR una still dey look for team cohesion/chemistry, no be against a cheap ass team like sao tome the chemistry go come at ones. As a matter of fact the chemistry will not stand the test of time. I will suggest big teams should be used to test the teams chemistry.somebody dey even suggest say make dem play osimhen so he can create record. You can imagine!
Lets use the cheap ass sao tome game to discover new talents and also to try emerging talents like orban, Boniface etc bikonu…
Abeg make we dey allow d poor breathe for this country!
Peserio no think so after sierra Leone match oh. List will be the same. No stress yourself
This type of match is what Victor osimhen needs to create goals records for himself and national team.
Tijani Muhammad is scoring goals for fun in Czech Republic. Anayo Iwuala has moved to Kuwait. John Noble is in Tanzania. These players must be invited for the next match.
Anoda meaningless ramble from omo9ja oga u go beat me 4 hia o.♪┌|∵|┘♪└|∵|┐♪
To save money for their pockets the NFF usually sacks foreign vouches just before big competitions. Eguavoen succeeding Rohr was planned by Pinnick and Dare. This time Gusau might take over the coaching job himself. Anything is possible in corrupt nations.
SO you were part of that arrangement and you kept quiet. Aren’t you and hypocrite
Nigeria football in a mess, so the solution in the hand of excellency minister of sport to pay for hiring World class and quality coach; I recommend for his excellency with assist of NFF technical committe to hire from thoes World class coaches they are as follows: big German coach Joachim Low, or big Nethelands coaches Frank Rijkaard or Marco Van Bastin or Danny Blind or big French coaches like Raymond Domenech, Jacques Santini or michel Pavon; I think thoes above mentioned coaches can lead Super Eagles to a new era cause we would like them to lead SE for World Cup 2026 qualifier which will begin in the next november 2023, also for the next AFCON 2024 final in Cote De Ivore.I think SE can be incredible and formidable team which will scare any African and World team.
Josef d dreamer
Take time oh. It is “Hassan the dreamer”. Joseph own shall come through. This one? Lol
Why should you leave a coach who doesn’t know what he’s doing to lead you to AFCON? Where’s he going to go to lead you to? That coach is not good enough and that is why he’s still with NFF. A good coach would have gone elsewhere without waiting for the NFF.
Why should you retain a coach who doesn’t know what he’s doing to lead you to AFCON? Where’s he going to go to lead you to? That coach is not good enough and that is why he’s still with NFF. A good coach would have gone elsewhere without waiting for the NFF.
Either he invites Orban and Boniface now or should be fired with immediate effect. He should leave Osimhen and Awoniyi behind for this match.
Is this man still at the helm? Anyway I’m not surprised cos it the myopic Nff that are running the show
I wonder for this country called nija.any thing can happen.Paseiro has not shown enough hunger and results for the super eagle job.but never the less the time is too short to start scouting for another Coach, he should stay and finish what he started abeg.
Apparently Boniface is invited. And so is Ogbu. But no Orban. That is self damaging. Super Eagles would have qualified for the last WC if we had scored against Ghana in Kumasi and added another goal in Abuja. Why invite old players like Ihenacho who has been under performing for country and club?
@Olujimi Morgan So it is Iheanacho who is Leicester Cities Top goal scorer this season so far and who is being chased by nottingham forest and Crystal palace that you are singleing out as Old player underperforming But Musa is still a youth and is doing wonders for his lowly club in Turkey abi?.. Okay o sir, Keep using players who are still having much to offer and potentials for growth in thier careers as scape goats for the real washed up legs.
Orban needs to be there in Super Eagles because it is simple if he is not called up this window Togo will call him up and he will aceept but to use Iheanacho as a scape Goat for where Musa Dey. That is totally unacceptable Bros> PERIOD!!!!
Guy, why are you such a bold-faced liar? Iheanacho has not scored a single goal in the Championship this season despite playing in all the four games and you falsely claim he is Leicester’s top goal scorer. He only scored in the league cup against very inferior opposition. This is why nobody on this platform should take your agenda-driven drivel seriously.
Who scored the winning goal against sierra Leon? And you want to drop him for untested player, what if pessiro use untested players you will be the one that will start clamouring for his sack abi
My Agenda Driven Drivel abi?.. maybe he hasn’t scored in Leiceter City in the Championship good Point bt that’s also down to the immence interest and meetings from Premierl league clubs chasing his signature this season. the fact remains Leicester city are about to accept a deal worth 15mil for him from Wolves he is a proven Premiership player and played there and withstood the league to the point that Leicester City fans still see him as a key player a proven premiership player.
Now Tell me What happened to Musa in the Premiership and the same Leicester City Iheanacho has scored over 33 goals for and almost 54 plus in the Premiership. while the same Musa who always seems to somehow miss the gilatine by spineless fans like yourself who are scared to call NFF out on thier obviouys Musa Injustice was relegated to Leicester city under 23’s because he could not cope in the Prem.
So you are proud of yourself for having no balls right?. tell between Ihenacho and Musa who has contributed more goals and assists for SE in the last 3 years mumu. dey dere dey lick NFF Yansh thats all you spineless, backward thinking Nigerians like you can contribute.
If you like don’t take my straight to the point talk serious it is facts Iheanacho and Musa now Is like 3 levels apart Iheanacho can still perform in Top Leagues hence Wolves interest whilst Musa cannot. If it pains you take your Spinesless ass and contiunue licking the same yansh of the same Individuals opening yours while they cover your already blindass with excuses FOOL!!!!
Stop going on a tangent. My point is that you should stop lying. Most people here are well-informed. For clarity, I am not against the invitation of any player because I am not the coach. The coach is paid to do that. My tiff is when people lie to further an agenda. Stop doing it.
@Sunny exactly my point you are spineless. and for your information my point is You people should stop using inform players as scape goat for Dead legs. If you keep Cutting the tree expecting it to stop growing then you are stupid. If you dont realise that you have to nip the Root in the damn Butt! that’s my point.
Orban is in the team sir
Ugo, you are such an illiterate. You suffer from some kind of learning disability. Bye
@Sunny says the spineless Hegoat
