Former Nigerian goalkeeper, Andrew Aikhoumogbe believes the Odion Ighalo can be used as a super sub for the Super Eagles ahead of the team’s 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Liberia and Cape Verde.
Ighalo retired from the Nigerian senior national football team after helping the Super Eagles to a third-place finish at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt where he emerged as the top scorer.
Before his earlier retirement, he scored 16 goals in 35 games for the Super Eagles.
However, in an interview with Completesports.com from his base in Cairo, Egypt, Aikhoumogbe urged the Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr to retain Victor Osimhen as his number one striker.
He said Ighalo can be used as substitute for Osimhen at the tail end of the game.
‘I won’t support the idea of starting Ighalo ahead of Victor Osimhen regardless of his experience. Osimhen has been doing a good job for the Super Eagles in previous qualifiers and I will advise that Ighalo should be used as a super sub against Liberia and Cape Verde.
“Osimhen still holds the key for our goals and he should continue to start for the Super Eagles.”

Odion’s experience is such that even if he isn’t in camp right now, he would always be needed. Granted that, Aikhoumogbe, has a point there. That’s exactly his role to organize the lads. He could come in as a sub 9 or 8 defending on who is not clicking. What’s important is a win for Nigeria kowe.
I knew it. I will type more, pls, let me get some MB
What is really all this news about Odion Ighalo every now and then. Is it that CSN does not have any other thing to report than dwell on an old news piece. I guess the issues at CSN in terms of writing great items are far worse than what we have in the NFF glasshouse. Instead of x-rating how the team will line up or the likely tactical switches to be made in our upcoming game against Liberia, CSN is flogging the “Odion Ighalo” news article. Total rubbish
Thank You.
We are this scared of Liberia and Cape Verde that we have to send a rallying cry and SoS to Odion Ighalo… what happens when we meet Camerron, Cote d’voire and those in ou weight class?
Always good to be objective. We will always win with Odion’s experience. Remember how Nigeria beat Cameroon 4-0??? It was Odion’s experience that opened the floodgate. It was on the 29th minutes. The countries you mentioned will pee in their panties merely seeing Odion on Nigeria’s bench.
That’s was a nail cap placed on it. hihihi !!!
You are correct.
@Salami Aminu, everyone knows he is an experienced player no doubt but is having a joker?
@JimmyBall, People dwell in fear when they are not prepared for the task ahead or they lack self belief. In this case, CSN doesn’t know how to properly write great news articles like other sports journalists featured like on the Daily Mail, ESPN etc.
I believe they should also go on refresher courses to learn how to do proper analysis before and after a game.
Ighalo super sub hmmm. Argentina experience is not enough abi? Nigerians never learn enough lesson abi? Calamity in the wait again.
That carries no weight. Renowned best of the best players had also miss open nets. We could debate something different. Nigeria needs Odion more than Odion does.
@ Salami Aminu, Thank you so very much for your point. The truth is, we may see Ighalo stroll in very late or even dishonour this very invitation. While I love what Osinhem is doing day in day out, I will like to see both him and Ighalo partner. WE need Jude more than he needs us.
Thank you my brother from another mother. Exactly the same here. What’s important is Nigeria winning, not even Odion. If he likes he comes or stay away to enjoy himself.
Nepotism from these idiotic Edo people. Thunder fire all of una Ighalo better park well else this time around he will be held hostage.
Do you think this your insane outburst is needed? I mean it’s high time CSN sensor/screen comment before posting, this abusive and unculture way of addressing fellow forum mate need stop, this is suppose to be a site for mature mind.
Even if they want to bring in Lukaku to come and play for Nigeria I will still support both the coach and NFF.
What both NFF and the coaching crew still fail to realise is that Lack of good tactics including ability to read the games when matches are ongoing and know what to do will still make Super Eagles not to win 2022 nations cup with bad outing in the world cup.
God bless Nigeria.
@Joe
That’s immatured of you. Does that signifies the fact that you are lacking in ideas? Let’s rub minds in a matured manner.
Truth, truth for a truth.

My take is seeing Nigeria will, I don’t care who is up there.
Up naija.
My Nigerian brothers, I’m lost. What’s the time of the match?
I will ask, don’t know too. Ciao!
Even me, all these everyday Odion this Odion that; and we begin to explain foolishness without a recourse to materials. Who take to reading nonsense? Or even try to advance it? If Odion likes he comes to camp or better still refuses, no big deal! Odion refusing to play is a problem again? Na wa yoooo!!!
What are we even chatting sef?
See as Odion destroyed the Arab of Tunisia.
We need facts and figures
All of you are not different from Ighalo, Edo people are bent on destroying the national team of Nigeria. Ighalo news everyday nothing better again to update us with.
Invite Taiwo Awoniyi too. Osimhen, ighalo Taiwo and onuachu in that order.
