Everton boss Marco Silva is thought to be ready to offload midfielder James McCarthy in the summer and Crystal Palace have been linked.
McCarthy is coming towards the end of his contract at Everton and will have just a year left on his present deal come the summer.
With a new offer unlikely the club would almost certainly allow him to leave for a modest fee rather than for nothing in just a year’s time, especially as he is unlikely to play much in that final year.

The Republic of Ireland international suffered a double fracture to his leg 15 months ago but is full fit again yet cannot find a way into the first team under Silva and is apparently keen to play on a regular basis to make up for lost time.
Silva is expected to make wholesale changes to his squad in the summer with up to a dozen players linked with a move and McCarthy looks as though he could be on his way.
