Rangers forward Cyriel Dessers says it is something ”special” for the Light Blues to secure a place in the knockout round of the UEFA Europa League.
The Gers confirmed their place in the next round of the competition following a 2-1 victory over Union Saint-Gillloise on Thursday night.
Dessers set up Vaclav Cerny for Philippe Clement’s side second goal after the break.
The Nigerian was sprung down the left-hand side with no-one in support in royal blue, yet he showed tremendous footwork to drive to the byline and wait for Cerny to support inside the penalty area who duly swept home from the resulting pull-back.
Rangers finished eighth on the table and advance automatically to the Round of 16.
“We are indeed eighth. I just heard it on the pitch. That is special, because we skip a round,” he told Sporza.
“This is an incredible club and the European evenings are special. It’s really great.
“I had received some messages during the day from family and friends that they were going to watch the match.
“Then of course you always want to do your best.”
