How come a country like Portugal have a foreign coach?
How come a Spaniard, Roberto Martinez, is their coach?
Abi dem no get local coaches? Why are Portugal not “looking inward” to get a coach?
Mourinho nko? Peseiro that just led Nigeria to the Afcon final nko? Conceicao the former Cameroon coach that Nigeria is now considering nko? Not to mention the vast number of local Portuguese coaches in the Portugal Primeira Liga, and even beyond.
How come the Portuguese FA did not settle for any of these local coaches? They went and brought a Spanish man to manage their national team?
I guess Portugal don’t see FAILING WITH THEIR OWN as a viable option.
Yes, they have chosen to go for success, and they picked the person they BEST BELIEVE can bring them that success. They don’t care where he comes from.
Look at their squad. How many of their players are Portugal based? In their starting line up today, only center back Pepe and goalkeeper Costa are home based. Pepe who played for many years at Real Madrid, has come back home to Porto to see out his career, otherwise he too would still be playing outside Portugal. As for Costa, he was born in Switzerland, so he is Swiss with Portuguese blood.
The invitation of these 2 “local” players to the team, is obviously not to satisfy any bizarre, ridiculous home based quota, BUT IS STRICTLY BASED ON MERIT.
And what exactly is your point? At least they have 3 other players on the bench who are home based. Mind you many of the current players were home based that were unearth by Fernando Santos and whose individual talents took them to various clubs in Europe. And Portuguese leave will go to too to with any other European league. Mourinho was also considered for the Job, but because of the same politics our NFF likes to play he opted out, i remembered him saying the FA president didn’t see him as first choice. And he wouldn’t want to clash with Ronaldo which you very well know will eventually happen.
You read my post and couldn’t see my point?
That one dey your pocket. Go figure yourself out.
The players unearthed by Fernando Santos, what criteria did he use to select them? Was his selection based on a need to satisfy a home based quota? Or did he select them because they were the best Portugal had to offer at that particular time?
The selection of Martinez ahead of Mourinho was not politics. To say it is politics is a big lie. It was merit based.
And the suggestion that Mourinho and CR7 would not get along is ridiculous! Did they not work together successfully at Real Madrid?
So you know that NFF likes to play politics? I’m surprised by this admission from you, as you are often pro NFF in your arguments. And to see you comparing the Portuguese FA to NFF? Come on, Kenneth!
Let NFF start paying coaches salaries and players bonuses on a timely basis first, before we can even begin to compare the two federations!!!
I insist that we want only the best coach our money can buy for the SE.
I insist that we need only the best players for the SE.
If the best coach is Nigerian and as black as charcoal, fine.
If our best players are all based in Nigeria, fine.
But if not, then MERIT must be the sole criterion for the selection of coaches and players for the national team.
We need at least 3 players for each position on the pitch, and if you are in the top 3 for any position, you should be getting invited. Out of these, the coach can then select his match day squad.
It’s not just where you play, or what club you play for. YOUR ABILITY is also important. That’s perhaps the most important factor.
It was you Kenneth who said here that you would only respect Rohr if he qualified Benin with games to spare, the way he did for us. You were mocking the use of the expression GAMES TO SPARE, as if it did not really happen. As if it was a figment of our imagination!
Well, how market? Rohr is well on his way to doing just that, and he will succeed if we don’t get our house in order. Clamouring for local coaches and home based players WITHOUT THE BENEFIT OF MERIT will do us no good.
We need our best to help upstage Rohr and our other opponents in the group. A group that was easy on paper, but is now anything but, largely because we are not using a MERIT BASED approach to run the national team.
Dude I thought I weas the only one wondering what that man’s point was? That guy is becoming more and more bizarre in the things he says, I think he now thinks that he is among the csn elite ba? psml
He is getting more and more pointless and showing after all that he is just as clueless as the next clueless csn blog members – with a few exceptions (you and I among those). I actually once mistook the enemy of progress as someone who has a fair understanding of things but now I see I was wrong and he is just as mediocre as his pals arara kumbie and the likes hmm, Imagine wishing bad luck on Osimhen because he stood up and defended himself albeit a little vigorously as some might say, but which still does not warrant all the illogical and hatred laced vitriol that these myopics have sent and like this pompei character still sending his way even now. I would advise that you ignore him in the interest of your own dignity because you know they are very quick to descend into the gutter when a reasonable person calls them to good order.
Last message was for @Kenneth
Orishirishi, a lot of senseless comments here.you no mention teams with their local coaches na only Portugal with foreign coach you see.
Nkpuru mmiri is very dangerous it has damage many peoples brain.
This my comment dey pain pipo sha. Hahahaha!
Some pipo are ready to hug transformer because we insist on only the best coaches and players for the SE!
Twisting words, telling outright lies.
Stan the paragon of senselessness is calling other pipo senseless. Mumu calling another person mumu?
As for you 002, hahahaha, I said it. You want to use insults to establish yourself as a CSN elite, abi? Ewu like you. Foolish idiot, why should I hate Arara Kumbi simply because you hate him? Who are you, and how dare you dictate to me who I chose to befriend on this site?
You no reach. I dey see an old enemy in your style of writing, masquerading with a different name, as the COWARD that you are. Go ahead. If you like, disguise yourself from head to toe. From your madness and foolishness, your identity has been exposed. Bloody imbecile like you.
The 2 of you are here foaming at the mouth, jabbering incoherently because I asked for merit as the guiding principle in the selection of coaches and players? Unbelievable how agents of darkness will always find ways to create confusion.
Awon oloshi meji. If I said something wrong, present your argument and point out what wrong thing I said. But I expect too much if I demand that from you idiots. I might as well expect a monkey to play a Beethoven tune on the piano.
The strategy of 442, the unfortunate simpleton who goes around insulting people is now revealed.
442 attacks people he believes are the elite members of this site. He himself unwittingly admitted that in his own daft, ludicrous comment.
His hope is that as he attacks the elite, he draws attention to himself, and thus becomes an elite also.
He has been attacking members of this forum one by one for a while now. It is my turn this weekend. I have fallen into the trap of this raging lunatic.
Please all, ignore him and likeminded idiots as much as possible.
How do you identify them. Easy. Fools who irrationally attack individuals instead of ideas, who can’t wait for you to make a genuine mistake, but who are so eager to attack even when there is no rational grounds for it.
I deliberately stayed out of the Finidi-Osimhen brouhaha because I don’t have all the facts. Besides, I would rather put the spotlight back on the NFF, as continued discussion of the Finidi-Osimhen issue takes the pressure off them.
So in the mind of this saphead, calling Conte and Osimhen werey is HATRED LACED VITRIOL?
Hahahaha, oyibo repete from a compound fool. If you don’t know what a word means, consult the dictionary first, before you come here and advertise your ignorance and stupidity.
I challenge both of these nincompoops to disprove the fact that only a merit based approach is good enough in selecting coaches and players for the SE. If they can’t, then let them explain where all their animus is coming from.
Even if na hunger dey disturb you, why not eat first before you come here to post a comment? Or is it all these hard drugs you’re taking? Making you lose touch completely with reality?
Let these blockheads not come and ruin the harmony and positivity we all enjoy on this beloved site. The day people lose their right to freedom of speech and expression and have to kowtow to lunatics like Stan and 442, that will indeed be a very sad day indeed! May that day never come!
@Pompei, thanks so much for drawing our attention to the fact that Portugal has a foreign coach. I remember that, not too long ago,England also had a foreign coach in the person of Steve MacClaren.
I knew you wouldn’t disappoint @Pompei.
442. More like minus442.
@Bomboy, why should you thank @Pompei? He is not an elite member of this Fraternity. You should never appreciate such a person. It is a crime. I will dictate what you appreciate and what you don’t appreciate.
