Bayer Leverkusen’s sporting director Rudi Voller has confirmed that Kai Havertz has been targeted by Bayern Munich and several other clubs this summer.
The 20-year-old, who made his debut for Bayer in October 2016, has enjoyed a rapid rise to stardom with Die Werkself, scoring an impressive 17 goals in 34 Bundesliga appearances and 20 in all competitions last season.
Havertz’s form at the BayArena resulted in Germany coach Joachim Low handing him his senior debut in a friendly against Peru last September.
His performances have subsequently also attracted the interest of rivals Bayern Munich, who were thought to be keen on striking a deal to secure his services in this summer transfer window.
And, while Voller confirmed the interest from the Bavarians, the former Germany international revealed that there has been plenty of other top European clubs keeping tabs on him.
“It’s no secret that there were a few phone calls and big interest,” he told Sky Sports.
“Then I had a friendly and proper call with Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. But he totally understood that we won’t do that now.
“I can assure you that Bayern Munich was not the only club that asked us about Kai Havertz.
“We will not be weak, because we are convinced that it is good, not only for us, but also for Kai, that he will stay one more year at Bayern Leverkusen and that our fans will be captivated here for at least another year.”
