Patrick Cantlay is hoping the floodgates are now open after he clinched his second PGA Tour title at The Memorial Tournament on Sunday. Cantlay went into the final round at Muirfield Village four strokes behind leader Martin Kaymer but the American produced a sensational closing 18 holes to clinch his first title for nearly 18 months.

The 27-year-old made eight birdies in a bogey-free round of 64 to finish top of the pile on -19, two shots clear of Australian Adam Scott in second, and that victory has now lifted him to eighth in the world rankings. Speaking about his triumph, Cantlay told pgatour.com: “I definitely feel like I’ve had a lot of close calls since my last win. I’m a little surprised it’s taken me this long.
“I really did [think the first win would open the floodgates]. I’ve played a lot of really good golf, a lot of really solid golf. And so I think I was closer than it seems. So maybe this one will do it.” Third-round leader Kaymer had to settle for third after carding a level-par 72, while American Kevin Streelman clinched fourth position after signing for brilliant six-under-par 66.
