The Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) has announced the launch of its State League, Anambra Football League (AFL), and invited affiliated clubs to register for the inaugural 2024/2025 season.
In a release issued by board member and Head of Media, Ralph Chidozie George, ANSFA Chairman ‘General’ Chikelue Iloenyosi expressed his excitement: “It is with joy that we announce and call for registration from our state clubs for this historic league.”
“Our State has not had a league for many years, and we are thrilled that this will happen during our tenure. Before the grand kick-off, we will announce a partner, which truly gladdens my heart,” Iloenyosi added.
The Anambra Football League will be a straightforward league format, with the number of participating teams to be announced after registration closes.
Registration of teams will open on Wednesday, 6th November, and close on Wednesday, 20th December. Only affiliated state clubs are eligible to register and participate. The registration fee is one hundred and fifty thousand Naira (N150,000), excluding affiliation fees.
The Anambra Football League (AFL) champion will receive a prize of two million Naira (N2m) and a ticket to represent the state in the NLO 2 playoffs. The runner-up will be awarded one million Naira (N1m), while the third-placed team will take home five hundred thousand Naira (N500,000).
Further benefits are anticipated, with plans to bring in scouts to identify talented players.

“We do things differently and in grand style, so our league will be professionally organised with plenty of fanfare. I encourage all affiliated clubs in the state to hurry to the office and register,” Iloenyosi urged interested teams.
Seminar dates for referees, as well as the draw and kick-off dates for the maiden Anambra Football League will be announced subsequently.
