At the Saint Mary’s Stadium, Tottenham Hotspur suffered a third straight league defeat as they were pipped by Southampton.
Harry Kane scored the opener for Tottenham but second half goals from Valery and James Ward Prowse secured a comfortable win for the Saints.
In other fixtures, West Ham lost 2-0 at home to Cardiff City while Newcastle United beat Everton 3-2 in a five goal thriller at St James Park. Bournemouth also spanked Huddersfield Town 2-0.
