Teams from the English Premier League had a nice opportunity to analyze the opening four rounds and try to improve during the international break. The biggest surprise package of the season so far is Leicester City, who are currently sitting in great 3rd position with eight points. When it comes to teams which underperformed, at the top of that list are Watford FC, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. Watford and Wolves are the only teams in the league which failed to secure one victory. Is that going to happen next weekend in round five games? Let’s take a look at the most interesting clashes and our predictions.
Liverpool FC v Newcastle United
Jurgen Klopp’s squad is the only team in the Premier League to collect the maximum number of points so far. The Reds were super-dominant in every single performance so far, taking the international break with confident 12-3 goal difference. There was a small dispute between Sadio Mane and Mo Salah in the most recent match that got fans slightly worried. Senegalese winger was furious with the Egyptian for not passing the ball in the second half against Burnley FC. The Reds have won that match easily 3-0, so many will agree that Mane overreacted a little bit there. Liverpool’s campaign continues on Saturday. 5th Round opening match is happening at the Anfield where Reds host Newcastle United, taking the role of massive favorites. At the moment of writing this article, home win odds were at low 1.15 rate according to Betting Offers website.
This definitely doesn’t come as a surprise though. Newcastle United had an awful start to the new football season. Fans were furious after club board decided to let Rafael Benitez go. The acquisitions during the summer transfer window were highly questionable as well. The Magpies have started the new campaign with a home loss to Arsenal FC, and another convincing defeat to newcomers Norwich City 3-1. The last two appearances were significantly better though. Newcastle defeated Tottenham on the road (one of the biggest upsets so far in the EPL) and won a point at home against Watford FC. They are currently sitting in the 14th place and awful stats in terms of efficiency (scored only three goals). The situation is hardly going to become any better at the Anfield. We are tipping Reds to win both halves at 2.00.
Manchester United v Leicester City
The biggest game of the matchday is happening at Old Trafford. Manchester United will try to lick their wounds after failing to win any of the last three Premier League games. Many fans were announcing the new reign of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after convincing 4-0 victory in the opening match against Chelsea FC. The Red Devils have lost the first match in round number three at home against Crystal Palace, while away days against Wolves and Southampton ended without a winner. On the bright side, the performance of Daniel James against the Saints is encouraging. Is he going to be in the starting roster against the Foxes as well?
Leicester City may have sold one of their best players Harry Maguire to United, but they are looking rock-solid in the back. They have conceded only three goals so far while scoring six. They are only one out of three teams in the league without a defeat so far. Stats in the most recent head to head duels against Man Utd are not looking great though. The Foxes have lost five out of the last six encounters. We also think it is time for Red Devils to end the winless streak, so a home win at 1.70 odds is going to be our suggestion.
Norwich City v Manchester City
If you are looking for EPL game with a good potential to have six goals or more, Norwich City v Manchester City would surely be a great pick. The Canaries have kept the playstyle that got them into the Premier League last season, and their games are super-entertaining to watch. Do they stand a lot of chances against the reigning champions? Probably not. Norwich is sitting in the 19th position with three points after four games, with an average of 4.00 goals per match! Man City had one slip up so far, against Tottenham Hotspur at home (2-2 FT). They are league leaders in most goals scored (14), and the attacking trio Aguero, Sterling, De Bruyne looks scary indeed. We are going to wrap up our Matchday 5 predictions with an interesting bet here. Both teams to score in both halves is currently priced at sky-high 14.00 odds.
