Anwar El Ghazi wants to play in the Premier League next season but he has been warned against a move to Everton. The Dutch international is currently enjoying a productive season-long loan at Championship outfit Aston Villa from Lille and he has played a major role in Villa’s run to the play-off final – where they will take on Derby at Wembley next Monday for a place in the Premier League.

Winning that match would boost Villa’s chances of landing El Ghazi on a permanent basis, as the 24-year-old has revealed on Dutch TV show VTBL that his preference would be to play in the English top-flight next season. Lille are believed to be keen to offload the former Ajax star for as little as £5million, which has reportedly put a number of clubs on red alert, including Everton.
The Toffees are believed to be looking to bolster their attacking options this summer and El Ghazi may well fit the bill, although former Toffees player Andy Van der Meyde, who spent an injury-hit four years at Goodison Park, has warned his compatriot against joining Everton. Responding to El Ghazi’s comments, Van der Meyde told VTBL: “Don’t do it. Don’t do it. “Please don’t go to Everton because it would destroy you. Just look at me!”
