Eguavoen: Super Eagles Job A ‘Big Pressure’

Augustine Eguavoen has admitted managing the Super Eagles is a ”big pressure”, reports Completesports.com.

The 58-year-old took charge of the Super Eagles in interim capacity in last month’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

Eguavoen will also guide the team in this month’s double-header against the Mediterranean Knights of Libya.

The former defender, who is managing the three-time African champions for the fourth minute stated that managing the Super Eagles is a big task.

“My priority is giving back to football, especially to the young ones coming up. We played through the youth ranks, and in my role as technical director, my colleagues and I work to help young players climb that ladder to the top. I love that job,” Eguavoen told Brila FM.

“The Super Eagles job I’m doing right now, if I were to switch permanently, it’s something I’d need to sit down, reflect, and think deeply about because it’s not a small job.”

On the possibility of staying as a permanent head coach, Eguavoen said : ”It will be a tough one. You have to give me long term contract with patience and clauses in that contract because winning is not guaranteed every week or day.

“You will give me time to tweak the team till I find what I want.“

He also raised concerns about whether the NFF would provide the same level of patience and support if another local coach took the helm.

“If they’re going to give me a long-term contract with guaranteed patience, why not? Otherwise, I don’t know.”

  • Eguaveon has consistently proven as the Messiah our national pride, football. Within 6 days he was able to assemble a winning team, defeating a foreign coached side, Rohr of the squirrels and also securing an important away point in Rwanda. Now we will have more time to see what Egu is bringing in the match against Libya.

Eguaveon, if NFF is not granting you at least 4 years contract, don’t accept. Let them go and continue searching for oyinbo color wasting funds unnecessarily.
