Super Eagles head coach Austine Eguavoen has hailed his players for their superb display against Egypt in Tuesday night’s Group D clash at the Stade Roumde Adija, Garoua, reports Completesports.com.
Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho netted the winning goal as the Super Eagles edged out the Pharaohs 1-0.
“I want to congratulate my players on this sweet victory today. We had our plan for this game and everything was well executed. Coming into this game, we had the believe that we could beat the Egyptians and everything went well for us,” Eguavoen told the media after the game.
“When we assembled the players together, I told them to see me as their brother and not the coach. That is not say that they should take me granted.
”I also don’t call the other coaches assistants, I refer to them as my colleagues. So, we are one family and it reflected in our performance today.
“We all worked hard for this victory today. It’s just one game and we need to keep working hard in subsequent games.

“We have seen in other games that there are no pushovers here. We will remain humble and respect all our opponents
Eguavoen also reflected on his experience so far in the competition.
“The reception has been great since we arrived in Garoua, it has been an interesting AFCON from the first game,”he stated.
The former defender played Chidera Ejuke on the right-wing as against his customary position on the left after the CSKA Moscow star took the place of Samuel Chukwueze in the second half.
The gaffer explained the reason behind his decision and also defended Umar Sadiq’s display in the game.
“We know the strength of our players, we know Ejuke is good from the left side, and it was impossible to substitute Simon, it was a tactical change and Ejuke had chances to finish the game,”Eguavoen added.
“For Umar, maybe first time in such a big stage, he gave me some excuses after the game and we will talk to him later.”

Congratulations coach. You are taking the Eagles to the world cup, very clear now. Not even Amaju Pinnick led NFF can stop you.
My brother, that’s what it means. But we can change that if we all come to the street and make Pinnick and his people see from our side.
Well done Super Eagles of Nigeria this win has done a lot to clam my nerves. However this we beat Egypt but this unit can still be alot stronger with the Addition of The Osimhens and Dennis and hopefully Yes i said Victor Moses and maybe Lookman or Amoo and Calvin Bassey. There is a lot to be optimistic about Augustine Eguavoen YOU ARE X1000 OF ROAR OR ROHR echefurum aha ya
Congrats Cerezo!!
You played to the players strength and everyone could see the Naija Swagger brand again..!
The attacking line of Simon, Awoniyi and Nacho really mesmerized the Egyptian defence.. Aribo will continue to ball and Ndidi still remains the engine.
Aina played like he was raised in Naija, I guess Cerezo did work on him.. Sanusi kept Sallah in check.. Respect to Okoye, Ekong & Omeruo. Semi kept it simple.
Samu & Ejuke need to play with the team.
Nwakali & Umar need to step up..
We will never allow nff to Roar us with Groundnut again..!!
Cerezo,remain focused!!!
keep flying Eagles!!
Nice one
Nigeria was really super today. l could not believe that our well coached boys can show the real stuff. Nwakali and Umar were totally out of the game. It equally proved where they were coming from. They don’t belong. Folks, could you see if the young Amoo was on the field instead of Nwakali today???
saleh proved to be an ordinary player today. l can see Nigeria vs Cameroon in the finals
Congratulations Guys!!!..It was a great win for all Nigerians…Next game should be our focus right now..
Can’t believe that Egyptian coach is asking for a penalty over the incident with Simon and zizo when clearly the Simon teipped while trying to recover and Mark the player.
Taiwo Awoniyi was a lion to the Egyptian defence. Strong and always make good runs. Just need the right passes, he will punish the keepers. Umar was average and looked too lanky and laggard. Nacho understands Taiwo better, with more games, they will gel like the under 17. Aribo and Simon were too exceptional. Kudos to the team
We need to retain Cerezo, we will see after more matches or winning Afcon. Pinnick should not deceive us with White skin. His I consulted Mourinho or Wenger gimmick should be generally ignored by fans. Those guys may even not be able to coach a national team successfully. I guess there must be a protest after the nations cup if the team keeps playing like this. I have not enjoyed super eagles football in a long while. This display is like that of 94 generations.
I totally agreed with your views. We were the best in Africa today. Egypt was lucky to get one lash instead of 3 or 4 goals and they know it. There may be a national revolt if Cerezo was removed arbitrarily by Mr Pinnick. Nigeria will go on the street in large numbers even set some places on fire.
With such a humility he is good man. Thank you thank you.
Where are all those mad rohr supporters let them still come and talk rubbish with their empty and useless brain,
Thanks guys for proving doubter like me wrong, and to Eguaveon you proved to us you’re a good coach, God will bless u guys for putting smiles into millions of Nigerians fans faces
Thank you coach Eguavoen for giving Nigeria what we have been claiming for all year long.
I am proud of you Mr. No nonsense. How could it be if we played poorly and the Egyptian team carried the day? Kai, I don’t think I world be able to talk on this forum no more.
I know by now Oga Rohr fans Nigeria limited would have bn here calling me names mocking me and other patriotic Nigerians but mba. God, you are wonderful and mighty. I glorify your name always.
This Oga Rohr supporters club that am talking about, they have mouth and sweet talk. Boasting around as if Oga Rohr was the only coach in the world.
Even before the match, our world class coach was talking bla bla bla as usual. Nigeria didn’t have big players. Now, we have opened his eyes wela.
Chai, his followers could not say a single word after the match. They short for words or something. Where are they now?
They will come here numbers and lie panpanranpa every day but after the match against Egypt, Mr. No nonsense have putting them to where they belong to lolz. I like that though.
I will advise you Oga Rohr to have respect for our local coach. If you don’t, you have seen the the result and the reactions of the people here after the match and I hope you people will humble yourselves from now on.
Imagine, they were praying for Nigeria and our own to fail just because of Oga Rohr. Are people now Nigerians? Funny people, funny attitudes. That is it.
The era of the foreign coach have gone while the new era of our own have come. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
So sorry for my typos. I am so happy. I can’t hide my feelings kę. Ah, just a week and everything have changed just like that. Mr. No nonsense, you are three much. God bless Nigeria!!!
Big Congrants to the Nigerian Coaches. It wasn’t about the win even though it matters. It was the style; the swagger, self believe , aggression , movement and general mentally disformation that amazed me. To achieve all these just within a week or two is mind blowing. Indeed Egu has Exposed Rohr. Pls we don’t need any former Venezuela Coach. Egu and staff must continue
Congrats to you. Very nice Nigeria can now boast of a coach to rule the World of football. God bless Nigeria our fatherland.
Can someone list does Rohr supporters here?. Their president is definitely Dr Drey, vice president monkeypost
Nigeria on the March again.
Credit where it’s due, congratulations Coach Eguavon. You do well, up super eagles up Nigeria.
I said here before, with a good coach, Nigeria would do well. Rohr wasn’t technically and tactically sound. Those who support him is quiet now.
