Technical director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Augustine Eguavoen wants quick action to be taken on the appointment of a foreign coach for the Super Eagles.
Eguavoen guided the Super Eagles to 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification in November.
The NFF are still keen to appoint an expatriate to take charge of the team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The former defender said it is important for the NFF to bring in the new coach on time.
“All hands must be on deck, we want to try and qualify for the World Cup,” Eguavoen told Kennis FM.

“March is just around the corner. If we have to do something (about the team), we need to do it quick.
“That person should come in as quickly as possible, settle down, so that we could speak, tweak things, exchange ideas and talk about the way forward. The earlier the better.”
Eguavoen also said he would prefer a local man to be in charge of the World Cup qualifiers.
“We should stay at home (for choice of head coach), but the technical crew has to be enlarged,” he proposed.
The head coach should be home-grown because we know the situation and we feel the pulse of the people.”

We must not deceive ourselves the best coach for the super eagles now is foreign coach. The reason we have not got it right all these while is because all the foreign coaches Nigeria Hired in the last decades were low and quack coaches with low or poor portfolio. When herves Renard was available why Nigeria couldn’t go for him, when Claude Leroy was Knocking why Nigeria couldn’t go for him like wise Milosevic etc, so wrong appointment of foreign coaches has been the problem in my own opinion. If the NFA want to get it right , they should appoint a sound, credible, tactical, discipline and goal oriented Coach for the super eagles. Also in his contract NFA must muddling into his team selections all entitlement must be fulfilled as at when due. I promise you nigeria football will be catapulted to the next level
However if Nigeria should want to try with local coaches, they should go for those that are coaching or have coached in Europe with good results and port folio. Thanks
Nff need to engage a competent and sound foreign coach. Apart from victor osimhen, lookman ,simon, iwobi, ola aina , chukwueze and other new stars like the top striker in Belgium there several Nigeria players in top European leagues like tella and akpom yet eguaevon is talking about chan eagles.
We even need to dissolve the technical department of nff and engage competent individuals.
