Super Eagles interim coach Austin Eguavoen has assured players in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) that call-up to the national team will be extended to them.
Eguavoen, who was retained as Eagles interim coach by the NFF on Monday, said this on Sunday in Ilorin.
Since returning from the AFCON 2021 where he led the Super Eagles to the round of 16, Eguavoen has been moving round league venues in his capacity as NFF’s Technical Director.

And speaking with npfl.ng Eguavoen said: “Nigerian playing in any of the leagues in the country can get a chance to play for the national team.
“I have seen about two or three games, the standard is high, officiating is good.
“Once players get information that I will be around, not just me, a couple of my colleagues are also watching other matches, it gives them a lot of hope and thinking they will get a chance one day.”
Following his re-appointment as Eagles’ interim coach, the former Nigeria international is saddled with the responsibility of qualifying the Eagles for this year’s World Cup in Qatar.
He will have to overcome a two-legged ties with rivals Black Stars of Ghana.

WITH POOR PERFORMANCE OF SUPER EAGLE IN AFCON, IT IS EVEN BETTER TO PROSECUTE OUR TWO-LEG WORLD CUP PLAY-OFF AGAINST GHANA WITH HOME BASE.
Some Home based players are better than Iwobi.
Like who?
It is like saying that all the people that studied in Overseas or Abroad are more intelligent than all the people that studied in Nigeria. Imagine the hard condition and people are still doing well.
Kindly name the automobile that was manufactured by your mechanical engineers that studied here? I am also interested in knowing the covid-19 Vaccine that was manufactured by your medical scientist here? I will wait patiently for your response.
Innoson Vehicle Motors. IVM I had to throw it in there lol.
But that is not the point. when it comes to ball our league is not up to scratch.
I did not say assembled, I said manufactured here. There is a difference between the two. Are the car parts manufactured here?
This is how we fail exams oo, you did not digest my question properly before responding. I am still waiting
There’s a Yoruba adage that says ” one’s enemy can never kill a big grasscutter ” That is your intake Kenny
Like your brother, abi? Some people will just be saying nonsensical things. Go and send your whole village to Super Eagles.
Nothing wrong with inviting home-based players, as long as they are better than their foreign based counterparts.
Invitations should be merit based, not on satisfying some “quota”.
The other thing to consider. The quality of our league depends on the quality of the players plying their trade in it. If the best get invited to the national team, and as usual find their way our of the country, the league quality suffers.
Solution: keep the league competitive, to attract and retain top talents.
He has started talking rubbish just to show that he is in charge.
Lol. Eguavoen is in in charge.
Dog whistle…..Eguavoen don’t play no funny games like the late Keshi except the players from the NPFL are extremely good.
This will boomerang on Nigeria very soon. Eguavoen I repeat is not qualified enough to handle the super eagles . Welcome back to permutation days guys. Now he wants to invite home based players lol . The same
League that isn’t regular where players are always on break. I wonder when these so called administrators will stop deceiving themselves. Amaju should go. Stop politics and let the right people handle football administration in the country. March is around the corner and I
Pray my fears don’t come to pass
This was one of the reasons Rohr was sacked as he failed to include indigenous players in his call ups.
Eguavoen is not working alone I know it will come to this that’s why I have been against his appointment,Nigerians should be ready for the worse.
Our football will experience a big low gradually I’m beginning to take my mind off Nigerian football until this Buhari’s government leaves with Sunday Dare and a new leader of the Nff assumes office.
Our world cup qualification is in danger with domestic coaches in charge.
Late Stephen Keshi did the same, combining the foreign and domestic players who weren’t good enough, the consequences was severe as we were losing to opponents we shouldn’t which cost us two nations cup qualification.
Eguavoen now is toeing the same line, just like we didn’t learn from the consequences of sacking a coach days to a major tournament we are repeating the same mistake made by late Keshi.
Pressing the self-destructive button is causing chaos to Nigerian football.
One man the sports minister is behind all this.
May God save our super eagles..
Sunday Mba was playing for Enugu Rangers when he scored the winning goal the last time we won the nations cup…una colo-mentality go follow una enter grave
And what has your Sunday Mbah achieved after that? Eranko
He was a home based player when he scored the winning goal
Who scored the winning goal?
All of you will just open your mouth waaa and yarn dust! Which league is not regular ? When you will not watch nor follow the league, its easy to sit behind your keypad and spill thrash!
You don’t have the technical ability of the coach, he is going around league venues watching the home boys, something your Rohr will never do but something coaches all over the world do, you are here crying wolf! He didn’t even say they will play in the qualifiers, his statement is that of encouragement and hope, the slave mentality of always putting down indigenous things and uphold foreign things can never make us progress as a nation…..Shey Na oyinbo Senegal use will AFCON??? Iranu
The local Nigeria league is not good enough. When was the last time a Nigerian-based team from the home-based league qualified even for the 2 nd round of a continental tournament in Africa? Eguavoen should stop talking rubbish just to show he is in charge. Is this not the same set of players that were white-washed and disgraced by Mexico in a friendly in the USA a few months ago? Why do Nigerians like to deceive themselves? It appears Nigeria is back to the days of permutation where everyone will need to buy a calculator as Austin Eguavoen does not look technically capable or convincing enough to handle the Super Eagles.
The home-based players should for now be used in the home-based Eagles to get them ready for the next CHAN tournament in Africa. Please do not make the mistake of using them for the double-header world cup qualifiers play-off against Ghana or the outcome will potentially be disastrous.
Thanks
Are you done?
To me, when I recall how u23 failed to defend 3 goals to 1 in Kumasi under Eguavon, he is not decisive as a coach but since Amunike is assistant may be things would go well.
He has to know how to study opponent before the game, when things is not going how he assume he should has more than plan in a game.
You are living in the past. Come forward as Eguavoen leads Nigeria to the World cup in Qatar.
Maybe it is because Rohr and I share a few similarities, I dunno, but I was one person that understood the man’s philosophy immediately he took over SE. You may not like him, but I’m saying it here that if not for his adaptability and astute management, we would not have qualified for the WC playoffs. I say this with all sense of responsibility, because during that qualification period, oyibo wall was no longer assured. The man had to bring in a third force to shore up the cracking wall, but at the expense of flamboyant displays. What he did was just a stop gap because there was no window for friendly matches to test and address the issues.
Knowing the kind of person he is, I knew Rohr will use the two weeks camp he was proposing then, to address the team’s problem especially the collapsing oyibo wall. But alas, the man was sacked, to avoid an impending disaster…lol
Nothing spiritual will happen to Nigeria for the sack of Rohr. That is, there won’t be any repercussion or karma for that. I’m very sure about that. But in sporting terms, something could happen to Nigeria. This is because what we are doing right now is trial and error, it is more or less like experiment……there is more assurance. In the first experiment, nine coaches were involved and the experiment failed woefully. Next month, we will be embarking on a second experiment after the NFF reshuffled the coaching crew, adding and subtracting. It is only God who knows the outcome of the next experiment. I wish thw 7-experimenters all the best.
But if I’m asked for my candid opinion, I will still maintain the stand I had taken since November 2021, that the devil I know is better than the angels I don’t know
Sunday Mba was playing for Enugu Rangers when he scored the winning goal the last time we won the nations cup…una colo-mentality go follow una enter grave
Where is Sunday Mba now? Why was it after the afcon final he vanished into obscurity?
Hahaha…winning goal from a home based player…true or false?
Bro do you now the man confessed that dropping Innocent Bonke was a big surprise to him. This to shows that he has a plan for the competition but it is what it is today. As for Eguavon matter, he is doing the bidding of his pay master. Just leave them to be waisting tax payers money on monitoring one yeye players around. Initial gragra he did same in Afcons and we all saw thee result today. If he like he can set up a camp for training home base players like he did before Mexico match we shall see how it end up in March.
If bonke was in his plans, why didn’t he invite him in our last round of WCQ against Liberia & Cape Verde….Enough of all this.. Rohr’s eagles were WORSE with terrible “kick and run” philosophy but lucky all through….We lost @Round of 16 but I was proud of the way the boys played….and they can only get better..
WE ALL KNOW THAT EQUAVOEN IS A EYES SERVICE PLEASER.
**AFTER WINNING 2013 AFCON, WHAT IS THE ACHIEVEMENT OF HOMEBASE PLAYERS. INFACT THEY ALL FADED AWAY AFTER THE COMPETITION. OR WHERE IS SUNDAY MBA,OSHANIWA,AGBIM,UZOENYI.
** WHAT IS THE ACHIEVEMENT OF EQUAVOEN IN 2011 U-23 AFCON WHEN HE PARADED HOMEBASE PLAYERS DUE TO UNRELEASED OF FOREIGN BASE PLAYERS. INFACT EQUAVOEN FAILED TO QUALIFY BEYOND GROUP STAGE.
** WHAT ARE WE SAYING, JUST OF RECENT EQUAVOEN HANDLE HOMEBASE TEAM FOR FRIENDLY AGAINST MEXICO. WHAT HAPPEN. EQUAVOEN WAS WALLOPED 4-0.
DON’T LET US BE DECIEVING OURSELVES. LET HOMEBASE PLAYERS BE USED FOR CHAN QUALIFIERS. ANYONE THAT PROVE HIMSELF SHOULD BE INVITED FOR SUPER EAGLE. SIMPLE AS ABC.
WHY DO WE LIKE TO BE DECEIVING OURSELVES CONCERNING THE ISSUE OF HOMEBASE PLAYERS. WHERE IS THE STANDARD LEAGUE TO BRING THE BEST OF HOMEBASE PLAYERS. WHICH OF THE HOMEBASE PLAYERS CAN DISPLACE WORST FOREIGN BASED PLAYERS.
KESHI THAT PARADED SOME HOMEBASE PLAYERS IN HIS 2013 AFCON SQUAD. AFTER THE COMPETITION, ALL OF THEM FADED AWAY. WHICH MEANS THAT THEY ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO STAY LONG IN SUPER EAGLE.
What do you gain from making noise? It is better to develop our local league than looking outwards for foreign players that what the coach has started doing by thinking Nigeria first.
@AMAO HOME BASED PLAYERS PLACE IS IN CHAN. SUPER EAGLES SHOULD HAVE A HIGHER STANDARD.. UNTIL HOME BASED TEAMS CAN WIN CONTINENTAL GLORY THEY HAVE NO BUSINESS IN SE. AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED ANY INDIGENOUS COACH WHO PUSHES THE ISSUE OF HOME BASED PLAYERS IS GETTING A KICK BACK FROM THEIR AGENTS PERIOD.
FOOTBALL HAS CHANGED WE MISSED OUT ON 2 CONSECUTIVE AFCON COMPETITIONS BECAUSE OF THIS IN KESHI’S TENURE.
STANDARD SHOULD BE
WIN CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
CONQUER CHAN COMPETITION
THEN YOU WILL FIND THE PLAYER THAT COMES FROM THERE WILL BE GOOD ENOUGH TO CUT IT IN SE.
WE ARE ABOUT TO MISS OUT ON FREE KICK SPECIALISTS LIKE MICHAEL OLISE. AND ADEMOLA LOOKMAN WILL SOON GET FRUSTRATED AND ANSWER AN ENGLAND CALL UP IF IT COMES.
SUPER EAGLES IS NOT A EXPERIMENTAL PLACE FOR HOME BASED PLAYERS REALLY THAT IS WHAT CHAN IS FOR. EGUAVOEN SHOULD NOT TRY THIS RUBBISH BEFORE GHANA KNOCK OUT HE WILL REALLY SEAL OUR FATE. LOOK AT SENEGAL THEY ARE SERIOUS GETTING FRENCH BORN PLAYERS PLAYING IN LIGUE 1 TO SWITCH ALLEGIANCE NOT ONE HOME BASED PLAYER IN THIER SQUAD BESIDES 3RD CHOICE GOAL KEEPER Alioune Badara Faty..
NOW EGUAVOEN WANT TO PUT 3. 3 BA WHEN WE ALREADY HAD 5 REGULARS MISSING FROM THIS AFCON SO WHO WILL DROP THIS IS NONSESNE AND UBSURD!
Especially in the goal keeping department and midfield,I know that people will question the quality of our league, forgetting that we have been playing with players that play in Europe the so called quality league ,yet we still struggled with the likes of CAR and co,this is a welcome development, get us players that are hungry and ready to die on the field of play not all these average players that they are begging to play for us and some that are delaying thier switch to play for us.
Its really amazing, how a player can be good enough to be invited to the national team as a home-based player, but stop being good enough immediately he gets a transfer to whatever north African or backwater club/league these businessmen manage to traffic them to.
Someone should kindly assist as with explanations to that logic.
All those who were raving about Anayo Iwuala back then, I hardly hear them mention his name nowadays.
We just never stop deceiving ourselves ey…!
Imagine building the future of your national team on “18 year olds” like Silas Nwankwo….LMAOOoooo
They’ve made their $$$. Now moving on to the next one. These guys r handling our football are business men. Na from where man dey work em dey take chop…lol
I am beginning to see why some fans did not want Rohr sacked. It is for reasons like this. This dude is going to drag our football back because of sentimental reasons like quota system etc. Countries that have been successful at winning the world cup don’t practice such sentiments. Imagine France saying you must be a full fledged Caucasian French man in order to represent France, they would not come close to winning the euros talk less of the wc.
This is the bane of our problem in this country, those who are clueless are the ones running things. The quality of thought is below par.
France, Italy are widening their talent pool, we are shrinking it and thinking we will arrive at the same doorstep of success, we are jesters.
I warned people on this platform that expect 7 local based players and the akara never done, beans don dey smell.
All the good work done by Rohr in player recruitment will be undone by Eguavoen and his bosses.
Don’t do that! Focus on your Eguavon.. stop being hypocritical. Keep his name outa ya mouth please. You never liked anything about the man. We know ourselves..
If you have followed my thread on this platform, you will notice that I have always stated that I appreciated some things Rohr did right and I have been critical of things he did not do right. Also, that is the nature of opinions, in light of new evidence, opinions can change. That is how developed and matured minds think.
My thinking succumbs to superior argument. That is why the words convince, persuade were created because your position can change in light of new information.
To be clear, I still feel it was right to sack Rohr but I have a better understanding as to why fans did not want him sacked.
From being a hypocrite, you have suddenly turn to a harden liar. Do you want me to start fetching you comments about roah on this platform? @Golden Child I repeat you have never liked anything about roah. I remember when somebody gave roah credit for his recruitment strategy. You came out to rubbish it and gave the credit to someone else.. so like I said Don’t do that! We know ourselves. Stop sounding as if you care or love his style of recruitment…And stop using his name to make your point relevant.
Again, it appears you can not articulate your argument without resorting to insults. If you have noticed, I haven’t called you names, I have simply put forth my argument.
Though English is not our mother’s tongue, I will enjoin you to show a little application in this regard.
Back to the issue, I
Can recall giving credit to Rohr for fostering a harmonious team, I recall giving him credit for his policy of youth so my dear friend you are wrong there. Rohr did have a gentleman by the name of Adelakun who did his scouting for him so I only pointed out that he can not take direct credit for the recruitment of players but the overall credit does go to him as the Head of the Technical crew. This was what I was alluding to in the thread you are referring to.
I am not pretending to be a Rohr supporter(Even though I used to be one until I lost patience with his decisions), all I have said is I have a better understanding of the position you and the rest of Rohr supporters have on his sack. This came about due to the recent utterances of coach Eguavoen.
So to say that I understand you better is why you think that I deserve to be called all these names? Just wow! Shows how closed and parochial your mind is.
My only issue with Rohr was the Musa shenanigans and boring style of play. But it may now look like doom and gloom with Eguavoen with this Home based nonsense philosophy he is trying to implement in a whole international team like Super Eagles. I mean he gave a shot to the best talents from Home base of the past two years, Anayo and Olisa they did not cut it. He even went as far as compiling a team of solely home base players to tackle a whole Mexico we came out with our tails between our legs and now on the eve of a crucial do or die game with Ghana he is coming with this rubbish to put in players who are not even of the standard of Anayo and Olisa i mean is this a joke. The problem is majority of Nigerians at home, are just gullible and will eat any rubbisg thrown at them. I now fear the worst.
LMFAO!!Apparently from your arguments you were being hypocritical and dishonest. Its obvious. How is that an insult and calling you names? Come on don’t be ridiculous @Golden Child
And you think as the head of a technical crew, you will sit down and do nothing? No! Roah will have to identify the type and class of players he needs to execute the job and then summit the list to his scouting crew of which he his also part of. I mean that is why he employed them and he is paying them. And even when the players come in, roah will have to give his final approval after accessing and scrutinizing them technically via clips or on the training ground.. so stop twisting credit. Which one is overall, direct or indirect. Roah deserves all the credit! Oh! LMAO.. I see you are now twisting words because I exposed you. LMAO..I know all of you in this forum
@Monkey Post, this is your recent post “From being a hypocrite, you have suddenly turn to a harden liar”.
Last time I checked, Hypocrite and Liar are not complementary words. All because I stated that I understand your stance a lot better. Thank God you are not a pastor, you would have been scary. Imagine a new convert coming to you that they can now see the light, you will tell the convert to remain in the Kingdom of darkness because he/she did not share your belief from the onset….laughable. That is how closed and inflexible your mind is.
Anyway, no one would keep me from having and sharing my opinion, not you, not anyone , they are mine. If I decide to change it for whatever reason, they are still my opinion and I am entitled to it. If you want to defend Rohr for 60 years to come, that’s your cup of tea.
I do not have much time looking for my previous posts but below is an excerpt from a recent post (So much for your you exposing me, as if I care. This is so you do not mislead people on this platform):
Golden Child 2 weeks ago
“One big mistake a lot of fans make is that they believe that the best players are in the top leagues. This is a big fallacy, like someone mentioned Enyeama played for Maccabi Tel Aviv (Israel) when the team won the AFCON in 2013 and some people on this platform believe because Okoye plays for Sparta Rotterdam in Holland and was recently signed by Watford FC, suggest he is the best goal tender for Nigeria. Totally misleading!
Adeleye has been churning out performances in the same Israel Enyeama plied his trade and was never called up once till this day despite several FIFA windows for Friendlies. That is why i just shake my end in disappointment when some fans back Gernot Rohr. Whilst he did some good but there were a lot of bad that he has to take credit for. Rohr was just very fortunate that he took over SE when there was an explosion of good talents. I just pulled up Keshi’s team list for the 2013 AFCON and the only players in decent clubs were Victor Moses (Chelsea), Mikel Obi (Chelsea) , Onazi (Lazio), Ahmed Musa (CSK MOSCOW), IK Uche (Villareal), Efe Ambrose(Celtic) & Nosa (Real Betis). Just 7 players, compare that with now”.
This is my last response to you on this thread, I can clearly see you have a Kamikaze approach to your views and are not respectful to other divergent views and in this case, convergent view ..lols
A failure
Coach be careful of what you say choose your words carefully people will take you by your words this world is wicked o. Work and pray well behind scene. Your first hurdle hardwork will make it simple to cross mark my words. Peace!
The walls is beginning to collapse, Home based players! from which league? Which player? please name one? At what age? Where is Mba after the Afcon then? Which club did he end up with? Which club is Olisa Ndah and Anayo Iwuala playing with now after 1 or 2 games representing the national team? and how long will they remain as home based players? Can the wise give a reasonable answers? An insight, the home groomed players in the national team in past two decades aren’t from the league, the likes of Mikel Obi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi,Victor Osimhen , Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon,Chidera Ejuke and the big ones in the team; Ahmed Musa, Kenneth Omeruo and Shehu are all picked out from a football academy not from the league. I’m not against home groomed players but not from league. it’s like going 1000miles backward with our current league status. How many of this clubs have a youth teams? or Academy? Players that are above 30s or 40s! what development or improvement are you expecting from them? Which top clubs in Europe will bid for them? Don’t let us deceive ourselves or be deceived. This is a wrong direction. Don’t celebrate a step that not is prosperous. I taught Cerezo has gone of age but with this statement it seems otherwise. Just at the concluded Afcon, How many home based players won the tournament for Senegal? Even Ghana FA are intensifying there effort to bring in foreign based/ born players for the World cup qualifers. And we’re thinking about home based players in this modern football game. This one of many problems with the local coaches, they want to satisfy all. God bless Nigeria.
Na jealousy go kil una..lol..Nigeria can never be Ghana and besides, Eguavoen is on the right track.
I don’t think real Nigerians are disappointed…..It’s like one person is making some of the now “unpopular usual noise” . This can be deduced from the same story line above.
Anyway, coach Eguavoen and his subordinates have hit the ground running which was actually the advice Nigerians gave them when they were being considered for the job. That is the right thing to do. I would also advise Eguavoen to keep us abreast with the very match or matches they have witnessed, let’s have the onfield picture sections and interactions with our domestic players, their names and those of their management staffers, their challenges, how they feel and their expectations. This has become important going forward.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Lmfao! @Lanre, if not that your comment deserves a response, I wouldn’t have commented. From the first comment I read, I knew the noise makers button was enabled. The good thing is our officials are used to them.
Being eloquent and very outspoken, I expect coach Austin Eguavoen to seize every occasion to meet the media. He must continue engaging with the domestic league just as he has started. God bless Nigerians.
Let us fail with our own! I mean every word of it. Not sarcasm.
WHAT IS THE CHAN TEAM FOR?? THAT IS BY OWN, WHY DOES NIGERIA TRY TO ALWAYS CROSS THE FINISH LINE BEFORE THE HURDLE LET THESE PLAYERS PROVE THIER WORTH IN CONTINENTAL COMPETITIONS AND THEN THE CHAN TEAM THAT IS HOW IT SHOULD BE DONE. LIKE ENYEAMA AND THEM HAD TO THIS IS NOT THE WAY TO GO EGUAVOEN.. AT ALL WE NEED QUALITY NOT LOWERED STANDARD. FOR GOODNESS SAKE THESE PLAYRS CAN NOT EVEN SUCCESSFULLY EXECUTE GAMES AGAINST CLUBS FROM UGANDA AND LESOTHO. THIS IS THE SAME WAY KESHI CAUSED US TO MISS OUT ON TWO CONSECUTIVE NATIONS CUP. WHAT IS WRONG WITH INDIGEONOUS COACHES DO THEY NEVER LEARN NA WA O. FOR CHRIST SAKE GO AND TALK TO MICHAEL OLISE EGUAVOEN AND ADEMOLA LOOKMAN STOP FORCING HOME BASED PLAYER ISSUE UNLESS YOU WANT TO START COLLECTING BRIBE TOO. HAVE YOU SEEN IT, MY GOD NOW I FEAR THE WORST. AND ALSO IT IS NOT THE TIME MR EGUAVOEN TO PUSH HOME BASED PLAYERS ALREADY 5 KEY PLAYERS WERE MISSING IN AFCON WHERE WILL YOU FIT THIS YOUR SO CALLED JEWELS INTO NOW??. NIGERIA NIGERIA NIGERIA UNA NEVER LEARN ABI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HOMEBASED MY FOOT, THE MUST PLAY CHAN FIRST THEN SE. WE SHOULD HOLD SUPER EAGLES TO HIGHER STANDARDS. WHO THE HELL IS REASONING FOR THIS PEOPLE BIKONU. EGUAVOEN IF YOU TRY THIS HOME BASED RUBBISH NOW BEFORE A CRUCIAL GAME AGAISNT GHANA YOU HAVE SEALED OUR FATE AND HIT THE NAIL IN THE COFFIN REALLY YOU HAVE!. YOU BROUGH OLISA NDA ONE OF THE BEST HOME BASED PLAYER LAST SEASON WHO NOW PLIES HIS TRADE IN SA. YET ONLY FEILD HIM FOR 15 MINUTES NOW YOU WANT TO GIVE CRUCIAL SLOTS TO HOME BASED PLAYERS WHILE STILL MUSA WILL BE IMPOSED ON YOU. THIS COUNTRY SEF I TIRE O
Only the best homebased should be selected. If they move to another country like Anayo Iwuala, they should still continue to be considered for Super Eagles invitation. All we are saying, give us transparency or else Eguavoen and Amuneke will fail.
A word is enough for the wise.
The truth is always bitter, Christian Chukwu and Amodu Shuiabu paraded over 50% home based players during their time in charge. What was their results?
Do they live up to expectations? let even forget their failures.
We clamoured for Stephen Odey , Sekiru from MFM , Anayo Iwuala of recent and the likes where are they now?
Peradventure if Cerezo and Co could assemble a team made up of home based players with raw skills and better cohesion.
For how long will they remain as home based players after 2 or more warm up games even before a main tournament?
If they get good and better offers aboard, is the FA and Coaching crews still going to retain them as home based players?
Even Cerezo and co teammates after Tunisia 94 and USA 94 do they continued as home based players?
Even when the local clubs were producing talented players and the league was a bit okey and eyes were not even fully open then.
Note:
England, Italy and Egypt were like this then, only local players made up 99% if not 100% then but they moved away from this myopic thinking.
South Africa with their more hype league are still depending on their league players what have they achieved with this?
Cerezo had started well, I hope he keeps the momentum going and not to gil the lilly.
I’m not totally against adding 1 or 2 players from local league into the national team, if we can find one. Players that can really add substantial value to the team not adding up to numbers, one who can prove me wrong and remain in our league after he exhaled in a game or a tournament. Underaged teams coaches are meant to help to discover raw talents.God bless..
Watalor M, so you successfully classified those comments above as noise, right?
@Watalor M, so you successfully classified those comments above as noise, right??
Samuel: Before nko? Judging from the noise, you could see agitation because their own is not the manager of both human and material resources. Exactly where the truth is bitter. I thank God Coach Eguavoen has hit the ground running and I’m expecting him to do more with our local League
@Samuel the point he is making is the best home based players don’t remain in the league for more than a season after a stand out season it is facts. Eguavoen is backward thinking this is what derails our ball. This is merely a case of someone benefiting financially. You go ask any home based player thier dream and they will tell you is to play abroad even the ones who don’t possess the ability to play abroad. CHAN team is for home based players SE is for the best Nigerian Players and as of now the best Players Plie thier trade abroad. even our most Successfull exports from Nigeria currently abroad are not from the league they are from the Youth And Academy set up. Super Eagles is not a testing ground it is for refined players what is this Home based players rubbish on the eve of a do or die world cup qualifier. Eguavoen is being pure and simply stupid with this thinking. It will derail us. that is why CAF created Chan football. to avoid this sort of rubbish as i said above.
STANDARD SHOULD BE
WIN CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
CONQUER CHAN COMPETITION
THEN YOU WILL FIND THE PLAYER THAT COMES FROM THERE WILL BE GOOD ENOUGH TO CUT IT IN SE.
Let them at least try to follow this trajectory it is only fair on better talents that have paid their dues and moved abroad for instance if Stephen Odey was the best home based player a few seasons ago does it make sense that a player who was playing at home at the same time as Odey but not on his level makes SE before Odey????.
This is Ludacris Eguavoen absolutely Ludacris!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
because he is still playing at home!! so what are they trying to keep our best talents from Reaching thier full potentials in Top Leagues???. come on man Nigeria is wack really wack!!..
So what keep players in a league with out infrastructure good structure and payment??? Olisa Ndah , Anayo Iwuala these guys deserve call ups before any home based player currently they paid their dues and were the best, and even they fall far short of our overseas stars….
like I always say the best home based players the jewels leave the following season after being discovered. Eguavoen please DO NOT DROP THE STANDARDS!!!!! OF OUR BALL!
Just like someone said where is the league that can bring out the best in them.. if we have a better league surrounded with better facility, I tell you some of our homebase players can do better than all your foreign lord. But until then, nwanna we shall continue to look outside just like GENERAL ROAR did but was sacked because of that..
Eguavoen i was in support of you but if you try this Home based players rubbish nonsense now or ever… I will head up yhe choir that calls for your Axe. Please a word is enough for the wise. Just ask Rohr!!!.!. Do not test our patience abeg!!!!
Mark my words. Nigeria is not qualifying for the world cup. These are the people that were responsible for Rohrs ouster. They are just coming out one by one. When last did Amunike coach any Team in this world? Do people even think at all in this country? We will just be regarding and rewarding mediocrity. When did coaching Super Eagles become the birthright of anyone?
I ve said it many times I would repeat myself again the coming together of Amunike, Eguaveon and Pinnick is to promote tribalism, sentiments and corruption, Amunike and Eguaveon are not coaches, they’re player agents. Especially Amunike I know the dude very arrogant with nothing upstairs,With these clowns Ghana is qualifying.
My bad! @Golden Child you should have come out first of pleading for forgiveness for all your sins against GENERAL ROAR before stating your point rather than this stylish way. LMAO!! Sorry I never knew you are a repentant Eguavon supporter LMFAO.. like the repentant boko boys.. LMFAO!!
Corruption will never stop in the Super Eagles. All the coaches want is to play a home-based in one game, help him go abroad and get a percentage of the sign-on fee
