Former Nigerian international, Emmanuel Egbo has revealed that Super Eagles duo of Victor Osimhen and Victor Boniface are the only players playing regular football in Europe’s top flight league.
Recall that Osimhen, who is currently nursing an injury, has been in fine goal scoring form for Napoli in the Serie A while Boniface has been painting the Bundesliga with goals for Bayer Leverkusen.
However, in an interview with TribalFootball, Egbo, who won the Albania’s 2019/20 Super Lig championship and also qualified the team Champions League qualifiers with FK Tirana as a manager, admitted that it’s a struggle to name more than only handful of players capable of playing for Europe’s biggest clubs.

“In contrast to the past now you can mention only a few Nigerian players who play in Europe like Victor Osimhen or Victor Boniface. The others simply do not play in strong teams.
“During my time we had players playing for teams like Arsenal, PSG, Chelsea, etc. This also will impact on the performances of our national team. We have only two players like Osimhen and Boniface who are playing regularly and doing a great job with Napoli and Bayern Leverkusen.”
Egbo has made several appearances for the full Nigeria national football team. He was a member of the Nigeria squad at the 2000 and 2002 African Cup of Nations.
Egbo previously played for NITEL Vasco Enugu, NEPA Lagos and Julius Berger in the Nigeria Premier League, for Moroka Swallows in the South African Premier Soccer League, for El-Masry in the Egyptian Premier League, and for KF Tirana and Bylis Ballsh in the Albanian Superliga.

Blatant lie!Akor, Aina, Ajayi,Ebuehi, Troost-Ekong Saidu,Awoniyi, iheanacho, Yussuf, Onuachu, Lookman,Simon,Onyemaechi,Iwobi have been regular choices in their clubs when not injured
Thank you @Ako Amadi, are you minding these x Internationals?.. Apart from Iwobi who is yet to win a starting place at Fulham but he looks like he is on track, Bassey also looks to have cemented a starting place at Fulham although I am not sure if it is down to Diop’s injury we will see. but don’t mind X internationals he is probably trying to start his NPFL rant.
Chukwueze is in a big team Milan and it is only his first season and needs to settle in and understand the system some players take a season to adjust I can give many examples however ex Internationals are destructive individuals
Does this one watch football? I don’t he does
I disagree with Egbo, any player playing in the top 5 league is playing in a strong team. And we have so much regulars now even more than any time in the past.
Osimhen, Boniface, Aina, Taiwo, Iwobi, Simon, Mophy, Bassey Lookman, Onyeka are all starters in the too 5 leagues of the world.
It is obvious he doesn’t follow Nigerian players.
The Great 1994 Eagles were not from Barcelona an Real Madrid. They became what Westerhof made of them Agbo is a mediocre coach in need of tutorials.
Hahaha. This one don loose Touch with recent event. He should start following football all over again so that he can be current.
Bad belle Ex international.
Look at his palying history
No be Dr Dry favorite coach to replace Peserio be this. Can you imagine whats coming out of his mouth. though he would have been coaching in the EPL by now.
Hahahaha…shameless liar.
I challenge you or anyone for that matter to go copy and paste where Dr.Drey ever advocated Egbo to replace Peserio….LMAOoo.
Everybody on CSN knows that Dr.Drey is a firm, ardent and unrepentant advocate of the usually more qualified foreign coaches for our national teams, male or female….except ofcourse an idiot like you. Everybodey else knows that. But since you are nothing but a cheap liar, allegations like these have never been far from you…..LMAOoo. Same way you tried in futility to blackmail everyone into accepting that Dr.Drey is the same person as the ghanian called selfmade….LMAOoo…even when they all know with proof that the boy in question isn’t Nigerian and Dr.Drey isn’t Ghanian.
Thank you for once again showing everybody what a useless pig you are….LAMoo
Shame no dey catch you….LMAOoo. Even to tell lies that people can believe is still a problem for an imbecile like you……LMAOoo. Is that how much uselessness that was passed to you from your lineage….LMAooo???
It is not by force to comment on CSN, since you always never have anything sensible to say, why not shut your filthy latrines up and just read comments…..Oh…sorry….Ive forgotten, even reading and comprehending is a problem for you…..LMAooo. Thats how daft you have been from birth.
Once again, go and copy and paste where Dr.Drey has ever advocated Egbo to replace Peserio if you are not a bastard….LMAOoo
Okponu omo ale, omo radarada.
Chai, bro, you have just finished him brutally,. LoL.
Another ass-licker, how much is he paying you to come here and look stupid. ooooo, guess he is helping you to buy data. Nonsense
Hahahaha…..o ta were omo lara……LMAOoo
If it is easy to have ass-lickers, you too have ass-lickers on this forum lets see na…..LMAooo
Anybody that doesnt support a cheap lying didinrin like you authomatically becomes Dr.Drey’s ass-licker….LAMoo
Omo ale, omo ashewo, okponu sowenu omo
Look at this lying son of a bitch. Better go attend to your dementia and plan on how they going to lay you to rest. Were you not saying he was better than our ex and good enough to take the affairs of the super eagles. Abi una romance don break up. With all his certificate you were helping him to hype, thought he would be coaching at the highest level. Abi he dey use style to lobby for peserios job. Seems ur spicy peanuts are finished or your brain is freezing from the winter cold. Agbaya oshi
Hahahaha….Cheap lying bastard….LMAOoo
You that do not have dementia, ngwa go copy and paste the proof of your lies where Dr.Drey ever advocated Egbo to replace Peserio na, let the world see who is the cheap liar with a demented termite-infested brain between you and your father…..LMAOooo
Idiot has changed mouth after we asked him to simply substantiate his lies…..LMAOoo.
I thought you always advise readers to verify what Dr.Drey writes…..LMAOoo….it is glaring now that it is a lying bastard idiot like you they need to be wary of and rather always verify what you write….LMAOoo
From “….Dr Dry favourite coach to replace Peserio be this…” imbecile has quickly changed it to “….Were you not saying he was better than our ex and good enough to take the affairs of the super eagles….”
Simple question post where Dr.Drey ever said Egbo should replace Peserio…..idiot’s brain froze into reset mode and switched to “….Were you not saying he was better than our ex and good enough to take the affairs of the super eagles….” LMAOoo
Cheap lying he-goat has been once again been disgraced and striped red-butted again……LMAoooo.
Yes, Egbo has the best profile amongst all our ex-internationals…and that’s a FACT. Hang yourself if you can’t find any other ex-international who possesses more than he has….LMAOoo
He has 10 straight years of coaching experience, He has won a league title in Europe and led a European team in the Champions league….THE FIRST AND ONLY AFRICAN TO HAVE ACHEIVED SUCH.
So, abirun omo, if only you were not daft, you would know he is worth the hype and qualified enough for the SE if at all the NFF insists they want an ex-international to coach the SE. Go and drink rat poison if it pains you…..LMAooo.
He has already coached at the highest level, higher than your lineage has ever reached, and higher than the lazy ones an idiot like you always support, and he is still currently coaching a professional club in a top-flight at the moment, not like your jobless tin-gods who only get jobs when NFF decides to be generous.
Coaching by an African does not get higher than coaching in the UEFA champions league. So Okponu omo ale, he has already coached at the highest level.
Between you and I who is sounding like an idiot looking for garbage to eat on….LMAoooo. Who sounds like a homeless stray dog scavenging in the winter cold from people’s dustbins for daily bread….LMAOooo
Of course I have already planned for my death long ago, I have a life policy in place which already includes my funeral and I have my will already written. I am not like your bastard father (who gave birth to an imbecile child like you) whose corpse was eaten up on the streets by homeless dogs because you are too useless, daft and destitute to accord him a befitting burial.
Ode omo lasan lasan ekeji aja…!
Continue chewing grass up and down ehn….LMAooo
His time as a 2nd keeper was 2000-2002. He just mentioned 3 clubs PSG (during the reigns of Lyon, Monaco and Maseille), Chelsea (when Leeds and Newcastle happened to be the 4th slot from England after Man Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool in champions league), then Arsenal. What about others like Isaac Okoronkwo, Furo Iyenemi, Oliseh, Finished Finidi, Ikedia, Aghahowa, Adepoju, Garbal Lawal etc were they playing for Real Madrid, Juventus , Bayern back then? The situation is still the same . They had few players in top clubs back then just like we have it now. What is the way forward ? We are not their Agents in charge of their transfers. From your experience as a champion of a club in Europe, give us tips to succeed at the up coming tournament.
Algeria and other African countries are busy adding more top players to their team including Olise that supposed to be our own, but our X keep thinking of quota for NPFL players, how Musa and Omeruo will play till their 70s . To them players born abroad are the reasons for our downfalls.
Lookman is a regular at Atlanta
Ebuehi is a regular at Empoli
Moffi is a regular at Nice
Simon is a regular at Nantes
Akpoguma is a regular at Hoffieham
Aina is a regular at Nottingham
Awoniyi is a regular at Nottingham
All these teams are top teams in Top 5 league of which some are even playing in Europe…….We know we still need more top level players but outright writing off the SE players is a gross display of ignorance of Nigerian football.
I don’t even know what he is going on about. How many players in the 94 afcon winning set played for great teams. Kanu was not even in the squad then, amokachi was with club brugge, yekini with Victoria setubal in portugal, siasia with nantes in france, amuneke with zamalek, okocha with frankfurt, oliseh with liege, adepoju with racing satander, rufai with go ahead eagles ,iroha with vitesse arnhem, Eguavoen with kortrijk in holland, uche okechukwu with fenerbache. The only ones with respectable clubs were finidi with ajax and victor ikpeba at Monaco. Egbo should stop running the current crop of players down.
This guy is crying for attention. He did not have to make outrageous and daft statement like this to announce his ‘look-at-me’ to be noticed. I wonder what Club he played for when he was picked to play for Nigeria back then? Things must be really hard for him at this time of his life. He must be acutely frustrated and perhaps, slipping into depression as we speck. A happily contented ex international would not be so naive as to lash out the way did. I am referring to Egbo.
Maybe he didn’t know how to phrase it, he probably meant that Osimhen and Boniface are the only 2 players in the super eagles who are among the few outstanding performers in top European teams.
If it about regular players in Europe, they are numerous.
I partly agree with something he said. We need to take a look at the 2000 Afcon to be able to understand what he was saying.
G. Okpara and Okocha (psg), West (inter Milan), Victor Ikpeba ( Monaco), Oliseh ( Juventus), babayaro(Chelsea), kanu ( arsenal), okunowo( benfica) and many other players playing big clubs.
You forgot to add Ndubusi Egbo, Tirana FC, Albania. A top club.
What did that team in 2000 win? The strongest and most successful team ever built in Nigeria was the tunisia/ usa94 and Atlanta 96 teams. Those guys were not playing for big clubs; squashing the myth that your players need to play for top club sides to have success as a team.
I hope this guy who looks down on players is never considered for a coaching staff job with the Super Eagles. Egbo is a through bushman
They won the silver. Consequently, the 2000 team was made up of players from from 94 & 96 era. The only difference is that they played better in clubs. Apparently, what you don’t know is that the Cameroonian team that beat the Nigerians have players in bigger clubs. Besides, if there was VAR the result might have been different.
*in 2000 they played in bigger clubs
