Former Arsenal midfielder Edu Gaspar is believed to have agreed to return to the club as technical director. The Gunners have been searching for a candidate to fill the role since Head of Recruitment Sven Mislintat left after it became apparent he would not be considered for the position.

Originally, Monchi was the man the board wanted after working with Unai Emery at Sevilla but the Spaniard instead chose to return to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan after leaving Roma. Edu Gaspar has been mooted as an option and reports in Brazil say the deal is done and that he will assume the post after the culmination of Brazil’s Copa America campaign.
The 40-year-old was sporting director at Corinthians before taking up a similar role with the national team. A five-year-deal has reportedly been signed between the parties which would bring the executive back to the club for which he won two Premier League titles over a four-year spell during his playing days.
