As part of preparations for the 2024 National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, Edo State will host the South-South Zonal Elimination event, scheduled to begin on Wednesday, August 28, and conclude on September 1, 2024.
Athletes from across the South-South region will compete in nine sports disciplines as they vie for spots in the 8th Edition of the National Youth Games in Asaba.

According to the event schedule signed by Mrs. A.P. Efe-Amenze, Director of Sports Development and Operations at the Edo State Sports Commission, the competitions will take place at various venues in Benin City. The handball tournament will be held at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
Hockey will be played at St. Maria Goretti College on Upper Sokponba Road, beach volleyball at Ihogbe College on ICE Road, and cricket matches for both boys and girls at Edo Boys College and Iyoba College, respectively.
Football matches are scheduled for Western Boys College, while rugby will be hosted at Edo Boys College.
Volleyball, basketball, and traditional sports (Abula) will take place at Wire Road and Etete Indoor Sports Hall.
Mrs. A.P. Efe-Amenze has encouraged all participating teams from the South-South region to fully cooperate with the Edo State Sports Commission as Edo State aims to deliver a successful and well-organized event in Benin City.
