Edo State gubernatorial candidate of the All Peoples Congress (APC) Osagie Ize-Iyamu has described Napoli-bound Victor Osimhen as a model worthy of emulation by Nigerian youths.
Osimhen is on the verge of completing an initial €60m deal to Napoli from Lille.
Completesports.com understands that Osimhen’s contract is for five years which may eventually gross about €81m depending on his resourcefulness for Napoli over the period.
The contract will make the 21-year-old Napoli’s most expensive signing in the history of the club, eclipsing the €39million the club parted with when they signed Argentina superstar Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid in 2013.
If the €81million full contract evaluation later materialises, it would make Osimhen the most expensive African footballer in history, €1m higher than what Arsenal paid Lille for Cote d’Ivoire international Nicolas Pepe in 2019.
And ahead of the deal being finalised, Ize-Iyamu who expressed his delight about the move, wished the Super Eagles striker all the best and an injury-free football career.
“I’m delighted by Victor’s record move to Napoli,” he wrote on his Twitter handle.
“Victor Osimhen is a worthy model to our youths on the power of dreams, hard work, and focus. I pray that God grants him a successful & injury-free career.
“Through sports, we can empower, positively engage, and give our youths a safe means for creative expression. It can yield immense socioeconomic gains as seen in other countries and states.”
Osimhen will wear Napoli’s number nine shirt, which was hitherto worn by Fernando Llorente.
He netted 18 goals for Lille in all competitions before the disruption of the 2019/2020 Ligue 1 season by covid-19 pandemic.

Osagie is just trying to use Osimhem to get supports from Edo people. He will not succeed. Edo State is ‘not’ Lagos State. Every Edo people are saying ” Four more Years for Gov. Obaseki” The oracle has already said so. So it shall be.
