Nigeria international John Ogu has defended the Super Eagles style of play under head coach Gernot Rohr, positing what is important is winning games.
The Eagles’ pattern of play under Rohr have been heavily criticised by football fans in the Nigeria.
Despite the criticism, the Eagles have managed to squeeze out results which has seen them play at the 2019 AFCON and 2018 FIFA World Cup.

And engaging fans on his Twitter handle, Ogu called for support ahead of Tuesday’s crucial tie against Cape Verde.
“A lot be tagging me asking for the @NGSuperEagles to play that whole beautiful football to win games . Listen y’all, beautiful football don’t win games this days .
“Winning games is the real deal . Y’all support the team and the Manager. Big game coming on Tuesday before playoff .
“Pray for the team to win against Cape Verde. No noise,we will be victorious. Wishing the team all the best on Tuesday.”

Very correct, Ogu. Even here, noise is anathema, distasteful and has never really counted. The fact still remains, it doesn’t help either. Prayers and encouragement are what the lads need. I hope the coach will feature Odion Ighalo as promised. I see a better Eagles and some goals on Tuesday. Let’s make it counts fans! Cheer up fans!!
I align fully with Ogu as well but there is little or nothing to worry about. Though both SE and the Blue Sharks have a fair chance to win the game, we are pole ahead and in a better position to qualify. Nigeria never lost to Cape Verde Islands in their past two meetings and it can’t be now that we are home and abreast of what is at stake.
WHEN ORIGINAL SUPER EAGLE ARE LOSING,WE CAN BOAST OF THE FUTURE BUT WHEN PRESENT SUPER EAGLE ARE WINNING WE CANNOT BOAST OF THE FUTURE

Well said, say no more, bare delusionals about
So Cape Verde dont know how to pray? They have a different God to Nigeria’s own… Lol. If we deserve to go through we will… if we do not go through, it obvious we do not deserve it… it is as simple as that.
I followed Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles a lot when I was young, and each time, each game, Nigeria team always kneel in a circle to pray and often times still go on & lose.
When I matured I then realised all those praying ritual in sports is very retarded.
Prayers wont save us… Cape Verde wont respect us on Tuesday and those guys now know it is possible to beat Nigeria at home… no thanks to “Mr. Young Coach” and “Mr Ndidi and Iwobi are not around”
See the pride with which Belmadi and Cisse are handling their nations… standing very tall and proud doing a wonderful job with their teams… Super Eagles are now playing exactly the boring way Berti Voghts introduced us… put up a shambolic team and ran away after crasing out in Ghana 2008… even playing with a man more against Ghana.
These whites dont have emotions passionate enough compared to our own people… Egbo, Amuneke, Emenalo, Manu and Finidi… take guys who have integrity and wont turn SE to business club and give them the right support financially and otherwise… but no. The blackman does not even respect himself even if he knows he has people within his own ranks to do the job, with all the resources to employ one of his own to do a good job… he will prefer that whiteman who is seen as his Jesus since birth do come and show him what he already knows… it is such a shame. If Sunday Oliseh does not have the temperament… there are others for crying out loud… give them the job, spell dos and donts and let them work freely!
Why don’t learn how to summarize your text? No one is expecting manna from heaven. The players have done their bits and what they need now is prayers…. Don’t you believe in God?
Unfortunately, I don’t see the team qualifying. If Cape Verde doesn’t shock us with a win, the next round will be the limit for the team. I just don’t like the way football is run and managed in Nigeria. All our National teams are generally not doing well and the clubs are struggling too. It is so sad. All these tiny little wins is what is masking how bad the state of affairs are.
This comment is so much underrated.
Blessings man
Germany and Co that are playing and winning well na Myth na, all these part time players trying to use social me media jargons “be saying” SMH no wonder you’re where you are today despite your talent.
He has a point, today’s football is not about beautiful passing and wing play or having a pattern that can be read by your opponent. There is the “win dirty” side of football and also grunt football. If you truly follow football at the Champions league you will understand this well. This is the reason Tiki Taka was great for Barcelona and didn’t last long for the Spanish National team. This is also the same reason 4-4-2 formation has almost disappeared from the global stage. Many teams now play 3-5-2 or 4-3-3 system. These two systems now focus on a central and wing backs dimension to the game. More like saying Grunt football. When Super Eagles played 4-4-2, a philosophy that was got from Dutch – Belgium, we suffered at the hands of teams that clipped our wing play. In all grunt football is the modern way today. Central and aggressive players. That’s why Ndidi, Etebo and Iwobi are key to the teams performance and growth.
Until you we play technically oriented side, you’ll know winning ain’t by luck all the time.
Creative playing in the final third went missing all game. These couldn’t even maintain descent minutes of possession in the final third. I want to believe it’s cuz we played a lower team sha.. SE do raise their games when playing a good side.. But let’s always point out these things when we see it .
Follow Senegal play dt kind game if una no go chop am
Rohr’s tactical ineptitude is glaring,
I am really trying my best to take emotions off the super eagles as it is very important for my health going forward so, help me God.
The modern day football acumen is obviously not with Rohr.. that’s the simple truth. Even if the super eagles qualify come Tuesday (which I pray for) what happens going forward?
The truth is that Nigerian have players who are capable to make things happen if given the adequate materials to do so… however, that man called Pinnick is simply taking Nigerian football backwards…guys, take note of this, anytime you see Amaju does something that of which benefits the super eagles it means it first of all benefits his selfish idealism. Those top footballing nation in Africa who are really doing well today check it very well their nation FA’s are really supporting them and providing the necessary materials for them to thrive.
Guys, when last did the super eagles play in a stadium like old Trafford in Nigeria? Even UYO has been abandoned because it doesn’t favours Amaju’s pockets. When you see Amaju wanting the super eagles to qualify to WC22 it is because he has already calculated how much is going to make if eventually Nigeria qualify…
If not that Amaju is selfish, how can the super eagles be playing their home matches in TB stadium….the pitch is very small and not allowing our boys to flow as they do flow in their club with sweet playing turfs…
Did you guys noticed how long it always takes Amaju and his board to switch wanting-eligible players for us? Donkeys years!
Come to the coach proper, till now Rohr doesn’t know that what he lacks majorly in the super eagles set up is a dependable play-maker? Rather, he went ahead and be calling ighalo to the team. I love Nigeria super eagles so much that many a times I found myself scouting players despite the fact that I know my scouting doesn’t mean anything hence am not the one making the call-up decision..the best paly makers Nigeria can boast of as at today are Ayobami Akinkunmi Amoo (Harmmarby fc) in Sweden and Tosin Kehinde (FC Randers) in Denmark but is either bour coach never found them yet or he doesn’t need them yet… super eagles will surely win and qualify comes Tuesday but with the super eagles in the hands of Rohr’s rigid and retard pattern of coaching? I am afraid for the future guys!
I agree with your analysis of the team and the coach. Rohr does not have much knowledge about modern day football, it appears. That is why, he does not know how to adjust his team to match the qualities of the opposition. He sticks to the same players and pattern of play that he is used to, irrespective of the opposition he is facing. Look at some of the established coaches like Rogers and Gerrard, for example. Rogers may decide not to use our “senior man” in some games, simply because, he may not fit the game plan, and the opposition. But, Rohr does not have that, in his coaching DNA. Even if iwobi is playing badly, he will still be starting games. It is very baffling that Rohr still cannot identify a good play-maker for the SE, after many years in charge of the National team. That is what the team is lacking today. Akinkumi Amoo is a very good player that could be used in that position. He is a very skilled player, who can make good passes, dribbles well and can score goals too. He could be tried in that role. Dennis is another good player who could be tried in that position too. The NFF should not bother begging Eze or Oliseh to come and play the number 10 for the national team, when Amoo or Dennis are available right now.
My people I greet una. But don’t you think when playing with a very rough side, who has no pattern of play, the best thing is to play like them so you don’t get injured? If SE please with a team that believe in good football, I’m sure we will give it to them. SE played a friendly game with Brazil, did we play good football against them? Your answer is as good as mine. Even as at that time, most of SE players were not as matured as they are now neither were most of them playing in a very good clue as at then. E.g Osigoal was at Lilly then, Balogun was not having enough playing time at EPL club then, to mention but a few compared to now. So I believe the boys played according to what they saw their opponents play. My own submation though.
