The Super Eagles of Nigeria will on Tuesday, September 10 face a strong Ukraine side that boast an incredible run of 20 friendly games without a defeat in seven years so far, Completesports.com reports.
Andriy Shevchenko’ team will be going into the tie buoyed by their 3-0 spanking of home side Lithuania in an European Championship qualifier at the LFF Stadium, Vilnius, at the weekend.
The much anticipated international friendly match billed for Dnipro Arena, Ukraine, will be the Super Eagles’ first outing since taking part at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt where they won the bronze medal following a 1-0 win over Tunisia in the Third-Place match on July 17th.
Ukraine is yet to lose any friendly game after seven (7) years since losing 2-0 at home to Turkey in June 2012.
Since 2012, the “yellow-blue” have played 20 friendly games in a row recording an impressive 12 wins and 8 draws and scoring 34 goals while conceding only 12.
It should be noted that the Ukraine vs Malta friendly which they lost 0-1 at home in 2017 was not entered in the FIFA register due to the exceeded the limit of replacements/substitutions in the game. The game only passed for a training match.
This is the first time Ukraine and Nigeria are meeting at a full international level. Nigeria’s U-20 team, the Flying Eagles beat their Ukrainian counterparts 1-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship in the Netherlands by a Taiye Taiwo goal.
Ukraine are also yet to lose to any African team at full international level after six matches; against Libya (1-1 and 3-0); Tunisia (1-0); Cameroon (0-0); Niger (2-1) and Morocco 0-0)
