Sean Dyche believes left-back Charlie Taylor could be the latest Burnley player to force his way into England set up. Taylor was Burnley’s first-choice left-back last season, making 38 Premier League appearances, but the arrival of Erik Pieters over the summer has forced him down the pecking order this term.
However, the 26-year-old earned his first minutes of the season from the bench in Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Everton at Turf Moor.
He came on to replace the injured Pieters for the final 35 minutes and he impressed as the Lancashire club claimed their third clean sheet of the campaign. His performance has led to calls from the Burnley faithful for Taylor to retain his spot when they return from the international break to face Leicester on October 19.

Dyche admitted that Pieters’ injury isn’t as bad as first feared and the Burnley boss could be left with a selection headache if he recovers for the trip to the King Power Stadium. Competition for places within the Burnley squad has been key to their survival in the Premier League over the past three seasons.
The likes of Nick Pope, James Tarkowski and Jack Cork have certainly benefitted, having earned caps with the Three Lions, while former players Tom Heaton and Michael Keane also forced their way in.
Dyche believes Taylor could be the latest to feature under Gareth Southgate, although playing consistently at club level is a must if he is to be recognised. “I still think there’s a lot of room and time for Charlie Taylor to go into that thinking, along his development line,” said Dyche.
Even if he does reclaim his spot with Burnley on a regular basis, the former Leeds man faces fierce competition for the left-back berth with the Three Lions.
Danny Rose and Ben Chilwell have been handed places in the latest squad ahead of Euro 2020 Qualifiers with the Czech Republic (October 11) and Bulgaria (October 14). Luke Shaw is the other candidate for the national side but the Manchester United defender has missed out this time around.
