Dutch legend Ronald de Boer has heaped plaudits on Calvin Bassey for his impressive displays since the defender linked up with Ajax.
Bassey joined the Eredivisie champions from Glasgow Rangers this summer.
The left-back has impressed since a red card on his Ajax debut against rivals PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Super Cup.
“I’m really impressed with Bassey,” De Boer told the Daily Record.

“Rangers will not look forward to seeing him again.
“I have seen many defenders come to Ajax with what we call hard feet. When they leave, they have soft feet. Calvin is still young and is able to learn that. He is a fantastic signing for Ajax.”
De Boer also stated that Bassey has cemented his place in the team’s starting X1.
“He brings strength and speed to Ajax. He is also good on the ball,” de Boer remarked.
“Of course he can improve a lot in his game, but he has shown in recent matches that he is undroppable . Together with Jurriën Timber, he forms a great defensive partnership.”

Keep up boy!
Bassey’s composure and ball play is one aspect many people have not noticed yet in him game….. What people observe mostly in his game is his power and pace…… Bassey is SE’s best defender by miles at this point…..If Bassey continues like this then Ajax will sell him to the best of the best clubs in Europe as they always do to their outstanding players down the years
Just imagine he hadn’t been capped by now. It will surely be difficult to get him with the prying eyes of Southgate on many players of dual nationalités
It would have been impossible to keep Northgate’s prying eyes away from him. Fortunate for Nigeria that he has been capped!
If Eguaveon had not took the bold step to cap him,he would have just been like Eberechi Eze who came to us first, trained with us and even attended a camp with us but our coach was busy dashing national team caps to his trusted soldiers…….By now we would have been hearing words like “I want to focus on my club football”…..”I have not made up my mind yet”…..I am consulting with my family”…….all in a bid to buy time inorder to get an England call up……..The businessmen coach we have in Nigeria are only after their pocket and what they stand to gain in a player not the talent the player possess……If not how can a player like Alaba step foot in Nigeria at 16years of age and nobody noticed his talent?…….how can a player like Eze step foot in Nigeria as a 19 year old and nobody noticed his talent?……how can a player like Ebowei step foot in Nigeria as a 16 year old and nobody noticed his talent?…..How can a player like Bassey step foot in Nigeria as a talented 21 year old and we almost lost him?…..The new SE coach should better do himself a favor and never listen to those greedy Nigerian men sorrounding him that call themselves assistants……Go to Europe and talk to coaches about our upcoming talented players…..Hear from unbiased and neutral minds who know football in Europe……..scout players on your own and talk to their club coaches on how best to use them……Go after young and talented players that have bright futures ahead of them……If not we will keep losing our best legs to European countries not because they refused to play for us but because of the hidden devilish practice going on in our national teams (SE,U23,U20,U17,U15,etc)
@Akp, you hit all the right points. People are always quick to pillory Mr. Eguavoen but unwilling to give him credit when deserved.
Meantime, Mr. Rohr who almost cost us Calvin Bassey is busy trying to take credit. If not for his fiddling, we would have a super creative midfielder-in-the making in Eberechi Eze as our player today.
The Alaba case remains a painful talking point. Alaba could have played for Nigeria for many years. He would still be playing for SE today. And the boy loves Nigeria so much. We lost a great talent. The greedy coaches that failed us should clap for themselves!
