Premiership strugglers Newcastle Falcons have handed new contracts to back row Callum Chick and fly-half Brett Connon.
The Falcons are currently languishing at the foot of the table, three points adrift of 11th-placed Worcester Warriors, and face a battle to avoid dropping into the Championship at the end of the season.
However, they have successfully managed to tie down Connon to a two-year extension, while teammate Chick has penned a deal which has not been specified in terms of length.
Chick, whose highlight of the campaign to date was scoring the winning try in the Falcons’ European Champions Cup victory against Montpellier in October, told the club’s website: “I was a Falcons fan growing up, this has always been my club and it’s great to extend my contract here.”

Director of rugby Dean Richards added: “Callum is a very talented player who has already proven himself capable at the very top level of the club game. “Brett has shown great maturity and ability this season in coping with some really high-pressure situations.”
