Paul Dummett says Newcastle will be doing all they can to derail Liverpool’s Premier League title bid when the two teams meet on Saturday.
Liverpool can move back to the top of the Premier League standings on a temporary basis at least by claiming all three points at St James’ Park, while a win would also guarantee the title race will go down to the final day of the season.
Newcastle sit comfortably in mid-table after guaranteeing their safety a couple of weeks ago, but Wales international Dummett insists the Magpies will not be downing tools during Saturday’s match as they are determined to throw a spanner in the works when it comes to the title race. “We could have a massive say in what happens,” Dummett told the Chronicle. “We’re professionals, and we want to do well for ourselves.

We’ll be preparing this week and hopefully get the three points.” Newcastle have already sprung a surprise in the title race, as they were the last team to beat leaders Manchester City in the league when they claimed a 2-1 success at St James’ Park in January.
Rafael Benitez’ side certainly boast a formidable recent home record, as they have won six of their last seven league games on Tyneside and Dummett is keen for them to extend that record further on Saturday.
The defender added: “It’s going to be a difficult game as Liverpool have only lost one game this season. It’s going to be difficult, for sure, so we’ll have to be at our best to beat them.”
