Nigeria’s D’Tigress are now ranked in eighth position in the latest ranking released by the Federation of International Basketball Association (FIBA) on Thursday.
Rena Wakama’s side moved up four places following their remarkable performance at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
D’Tigress made history as the first African team (male or female) to be ranked in the top 10.
The African champions were in devastating form at the Olympics recording impressive victories against top ranked opponents; Australia and Canada.
They entered the history books as the first African team to qualify for the quarter-final at the Olympics.
The West Africans bowed out to eventual gold medalists United States of America in the quarter-final.
Mali, Senegal, Mozambique and Cameroon complete the top five teams in Africa.
USA retained their position at the top of the ranking with Australia in second position.
France China and Spain are in the top five of the ranking.

These ladies and their young coach are really breaking boundaries.
They were unfortunate to have met USA in the Olympic quarter final. Any other opponent, and I dare say they would have ended up with a medal.
