Moneke who represented Nigeria at the Afrobasket qualifiers in 2020, confirmed his commitment to Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz via his X (formerly Twitter) account.
“I genuinely don’t know who is spreading all these rumors, but they’re getting tiring. I’m a Baskonia player, and I’m really excited for this season,” he said.
He expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming season and his discussions with the club’s coach, Pablo Laso.
Moneke was born in Abuja, Nigeria, before moving to Canberra, Australia, to begin schooling. His parents, Sydney and Eucharia Moneke, were diplomats at the Nigerian Embassy. He attended Farrer Primary School before traveling around the world.
After not being selected in the 2018 NBA Draft, he signed his first professional contract with Rouen Métropole Basket of the French LNB Pro B.
Following that season, Moneke signed with the South East Melbourne Phoenix of the Australian NBL, but the deal fell through due to issues with his passport.
