Wow good move
Very nice move……Even if he goes to Granada or Udinese on loan next season he will still Have done his profile a whole lot of good…….most SE players need to change their mentality of playing in mushroom leagues…….Rhor should give SE Players mandate to move up to the very top of European football……. Your club football performance should determine your national team selection not your past national team performance.
One of the the best news of the season.. I have been waiting for this to actually happen.Congrats bro! Welcome to the most competitive and watched league in the world.
Wow!!! No one saw this coming. Congratulations okoye. Make Nigeria proud
As well as am happy for him but hope this move won’t be like that of Etebo to Stoke city then? He should have wait a little bit till after new year or end of the season cos I don’t think this Watford will escape relegation this season. Anyway, good luck to him..
Congrats Okoye. You deserve this. More growth to come.
Amen.
Congratulations to Maduka Okoye!
He won Sparta Player of the Season but someone will come and tell chronicles Okoye won Best Goalkeeper of the season in Netherlands… writing epistles to force a false claim…
@John-I… Why should I be a siddist? Lol… Buhari Economy no near me soa why should I be sad… I am good bro. I hope NEPA never take light where you dey? No one should come here to post false claims… I already stated this was the award he won and even tried pointing the forum to what was actually on record but the dude who you know was more interested in winning a non-argument!
@Jimmy, when a Goalkeeper was named as the first choice in the Dutch team of the Season, what will you call him? That simply confirmed that he was the best Goalkeeper of the season my brother. They don’t have a title for the Best goalkeeper in Holland as that’ll mean they should have a title for each position on the pitch
Congratulations to Maduka, well deserved. Now you can have the great opportunity of playing with the best in the game with the exposure that comes with Premier league from next season.
@Jimmy, the whole members of this forum awaits a congratulatory message for Okoye from you, plus an apology concerning your comments about him in recent time last month
Hahahahaha Dr Banks. My clone as that lunatic has now christened you and everyone else who opposes his lying majesty…..LMAOooo….you cant teach a dog new tricks, you cant wash of racial and sectional hatred from a man who was baptized in it.
Okoye is not national team material….. from German 4th division to EPL via Eredivisie goalkeeper of the year in 2 years……LMAOoooooo
Frank Onyeka is not national team material…..from Danish league straight to EPL regular like fish in water…….LMAOoooo
Kelechi Nwakali is FAR BETTER than ALL SE midfielders including Mikel…….just played full 90 mins for SD HUESCA for only the 2nd time ever last Saturday, yet already in his 3rd season at the club…..LMAOooooo
Football really know im people…..LMAOooooo.
Self-important oaf….!
@Dr Banks… you try me last night with talk about Ighalo. I just shake you up small… next time you come at me last that agin for wetin no concern unto say you no be Ighalo relative and even if you be… him tell us say SE ball don belle full am… we move, so when next you look for my trouble again… I go run you out of this forum. Go ask @Dr Drey how far with me… because you know somehow for this forum… after Ighalo it is Brian Idowu again… tomorrow it will be Noah Sarenren Bazee… Lol.
Guy, you stubborn sha. You looked down so much on this guy, now his latest move has proved you wrong. Anyway, take a look at the links below to refresh your memory. https://www.completesports.com/maduka-okoye-makes-eredivisie-team-of-the-year/
Hahahahaha…Muyiwa, there was not point posting this long for that hater to read. Leave the arrogant money misroad to be bragging about NEPA not taking his light, as if he was in coma when Okoye was voted made the eredivisie team of the season last season….LMAOooo
This is the goalkeeper some racists claim is not national team material. This is the same goalkeeper racists claim Rohr is favoring to be No 1 because he is half-german. Na Dem sabi football pass sporting directors of Sparta Rotterdam and Watford FC………LMAOooooo….maybe it was his skin colour that also got him a move to the EPL too……LMAOoooo.
Okoye don slap am for mouth….e dey stagger they look for blind argument to save face…..LMAOoooo
@MuYiwa… Okoye was picked in team of the season but he did not eventually win goalkeeper of the season.
He came third in the final standing for goalkeepr of the season because he played fewer matches (27) in total and conceded 35 goals as against the FC Groningen goalkeeper and Vitesse goalkeeper who keep 34/35matches conceding same 35goals…
Write the sports writer Oma Akatugba let him give you the break down… being named in team of the season is actually different from winning the best goalkeeper award and no one hates Okoye…
There was a voting and Okoye came 3rd behind 2 other keepers and Oma Akatugba carried it and shared the voting link… @Dr.Drey knows but he just want to sell it that Okoye was named Eredivisie best goalkeeper for 2020/2021… he came 3rd in the voting, what he won that I acknowledged then was his club’s player of the season…
The regular season is over in the Eredivisie. The play-offs for European football and promotion/relegation are still on the program, but Voetbalzone is already taking stock after 34 rounds with a Team of the Year. In addition to eleven basic players, seven bench seats and a trainer have also been elected. Only players who have played at least 25 times are included in the team. With three representatives, Ajax is the purveyor of the imaginary dream team.
GK- Maduka Okoye (Sparta)

Before, you claimed Onana was the GK of the season because he kept more clean sheets, later you switched to copying one computer game link…….now you have switch to Oma Akatugba……LMAOOooo.
Above is the official Eredivisie team of the season as published by the official digital partners of the league management company and ALSO reported by our own CSN too……LMAOooooo
Dr.Drey wants to sell Okoye……LMAOOooo….Dr.Drey must be the one who SOLD him to Watford now….LMAOooooo. This Dr.Drey must be so powerful and highly connected ey…..LMAOOoo.
I guess CSN too wanted to sell Okoye too when they broke the news at that time. Racial hatred nor go kill you.
You need urgent psychiatric attention….honestly….LMAOoooo
Hahahahaha…..where does that happen….LMAOooooo. The best goalkeeper of the season not making the team of the season…..LMAOOooo….More like the World footballer of the year not making FIFPro XI for that year…..LMAOOooooo
Desperation at its peak….LMAOoooo
Continue your blind, desperate argument…..LMAOooo. Oma Akatugba must either be the president of the KNVB or the Group managing editor of Voetbalzone, the official partners of the Eredivisie and the owners of the award.
@Dr.Drey… I will help educate you again then, you dont need another post to defend yoursefl… your fans will know you made mistake in declaring Maduka Okoye as Eredivisie goalkeeper of the year for Season 2020/2021… This is what you are good at… when you are humbled with facts… you turn and twists the core of an argument… dont bring this season 2021/2022 yet oga… you change direction because your trap wey you set don catch you… hahaha.
The argument and fact being contended was voted Eredivisie goalkeeper of Season 2020/2021… I tried to tell you the fact but no… your position must be that accepted by all even when you know the truth you will never accept it.
I am your nemesis on this forum… @Dr.Drey… oya take this bitter one and swallow again… when you finish just go to bed and apologise for misleading everyone here again and even cursing those who know more than you in the process! I warned you and like a brother, tried pointing you to the fact but spirit of winning arguments at all cost wont let you see any truth in what your betters post.
Let me help ypu with the voting list from ardent Eredivisie viewing fans of 10,631 total entered votes again! The next thing for you now is to insult me as failed footballer… hahaha. I gree, atleast I reached Hansa Rostock and MSV Duisburg pitch!

Weldone o….Senior brother…! I know that’s what you have been dying to be on CSN, (lord of the manor, to be raising your chest and be walking round and be worshipped) which you have not and can NEVER be….LMAOOoo….that’s why you bumped into this forum last year like a hunted antelope telling anybody that dared to oppose you, lies that you played football to the HIGHEST LEVEL……LMAooooo…..before latter turning to an affiliate, and then a partaker…..LMAOooo. I am very much aware that any acknowledgement of Dr.Drey on this forum makes your belly boil hotter than hellfire (the way it is boling now that a non-national team material is the 1st Nigerian GK to be signed by an EPL club from outside england) and your brain go “madder” than the madness of nebuchadnezzar…….you would so much love to have the clout of Dr.Drey that you wouldnt even mind cloning him.
My sincere condolence your for failing to achieve your mission.
Voetbalzone has a community of well over 200,000 registered fans of Dutch fooball and the Eredivisie. Theyr one of the official partners of the Dutch league…..underline the word OFFICIAL. And they named Okoye as the Eredivisie GK of the season and you cant do nothing about it, neither can your 10,000 plus fan poll also do anything about it……Im sorry about that ehn……LMAOooo.
@MuYiwa… please upadate your knowledge and authority next time please.
I know you are a good guy, but be slow to rush and post wetin no really join like pikin wey dey excited because him think say na Ribena him the see not knowing it is soured Kunu…

Of course….the best time to start such arguement. Such a smart ass.
Maduka Okoye (Sparta Rotterdam)

Hahahahaha……everybody is not a cheap, pathetic, pathological liar like you Mr. LMAOOooooo
@Dr.Drey… who do you want to impress with this your copy and paste Dutch? Hahaha… you never learn from copy and paste after you give Ben Iroha one(1) cap from Qualifiers through Tunisia 1994 to USA 1994? Lol…
Wikipedia go sooon fall your hand like time again… continue!
The way the same wikipedia told you Femi Okenla started his SE career in 1994 and retired same year with only one cap…..? Or that Ikpeba had only 2 caps going to USA 94 and did not earn his 3rd cap until 1995 vs England……LMAOOoooo????
Maybe you watched it all on your multichoice satellite dish which you uncle who worked in Nitel in the 80s hotwired for you (despite coming from a wealthy family) in 1993 even though multichoice opened their first office in Nigeria in 1995……..LMAOoooo
Hahahahaha…if you cant read dutch just tell us, we will translate it to you. Or better still, since you arrogance wouldnt let you admit to us, you can feel free to use language translating software. Because it is very evident you dont understand a hoot of what is up there
If I cant read or speak or communicate in Dutch, How would I have known what to copy and paste…….that is how dumb you are, I know reasoning like that is quite a task for you. Can you just go to an arabic site or a korean site and copy and paste just anything and still be pasting the right stuff…?
Some things are mere common sense and I and Many others on this forum already know common sense is very far from you….so dont worry, I wont hold this one against you
I chose to post it verbatim since CSN wouldnt let me post the link, before a cheap and desperate liar like you will claim Dr.Drey has doctored it again. And I duly acknowledged its from Voetbalzone News, including the day, date and time it was posted incase you want to verify. And FYI voetbalzone is the official partner to the Eredivisie….so that’s as official as official gets…..LMAOoooo
Dr.Drey always doctors any facts that slaps lies out of your mouth.
Yea, I earned my doctorate in ballistics and shock engineering 2 decades ago in the Netherlands. I pioneered the implementation of explosive manufacturing in the energy and aerospace servicing industry.
Hang yourself if it pains you that much.|
Everybody is not a trafficked migrant like you who did higgi-hagga through forests, hills and valleys and scavenged for years in germany, only to get his first decent job in the year 2021 and start posting his numbers for the world to come see his ID card…..LMAooooo. Dr. Banks orated your profile perfectly yesternight….LMAOooo
Very Local boy.
I copied it verbatim since CSN wouldnt allow the link to be posted and that’s why I duly acknowledged its from Voetbalzone News.
Go and continue arguing with your spirit about what the world already knows and have come to acknowledge, because your racist hatred wants to combat and prevent the truth that has already emerged from emerging.
The owners and partners of a league named their team of the season, pompous dunce is arguing against it…..LMAOoooo
@Dr.Drey… let me help you. It was done by fans voting… a total of 10,631 votes were entered and actually Okoye came second not third position… see it hear. No come the mislead people… award wey him win na best player for him club at season end… I told you google and wikipedia if not used right can disgrace you… you fall my head. That was how the poll finished… after several years of international football wilderness, that was what catapulted Maarten Stekelenburg to Netherlands Euro 2021 team. I hope this solid information helps your sight… you peddle falsehood these days a lot! I am on CSN forum to catch you… hahahaha.
Oya… put you thumb for mouth and begin to sulking… hahahaha!
@Dr.Drey… go to bed. You must not win always! It was an online sports media “Voetball” that named him in the team of the season… similar online media “VoetbalPrimeur.NL” conducted a poll for which 10,631 club fans and supporters pertook including some Nigerians and you are here laughing at yourself that it is some fans leisure excercise… You must always find a new twist if argument burst for your face! I am in bed already… I am in no mind to give you sleepness night today… just go and rest brother! Goodnight… you can continue rummaging online sites to help you with new twists… Lol. No vex make I begin snore…! I will read anything you are sweating to write to save face before your CSN fans after work by 5pm tomorrow! Make sure to pray for better outing on CSN tonmorrow… because as e be so… this evening cast for you and your fans… especially @MuYiwa and @Dr Banks!
HAhahahaha……the only one trying to create a twist here is you….your desperation, hatred and racism is what is still leading you to further disgrace yourself.
you srated with Onana, shifted to Pasveer, now you are caliming a fan poll as if it is fan polls top leagues use in selecting their teams of the season…..LMAOOooo
Desperation at its peak.
I’ve asked you where have you seen the GK of the season not making the team of the season, you have been perambulating all along, summersaulting from one lane of the highway to the other…..LMAOooo
Voetbalzone is THE OFFICIAL MEDIA PARTNER OF THE DUTCH EREDIVISIE. If you don’t know what that means, go and ask and stop disgracing yourself blindly…..LMAOooooo.
Any site can conduct polls……no law bans sites from doing so. But there is a reason why all other media houses including CSN re-broadcasted voetbalzone’s team of the season, and not your jankara site.
Once again, Voetbalzone is THE OFFICIAL MEDIA PARTNER OF THE DUTCH EREDIVISIE. If you don’t know what that means, go and ask and stop disgracing yourself…..LMAOooooo.
Wow! Big congratulations bro.
Proudly Nigeria.
Big congratulations to Maduka. Now this is heartwarming news, especially as it concerns a department that has given Nigerians worries over the past couple of years. If I’m not mistaken, this should be the first EPL signing of a Nigerian goalkeeper, which is a big deal, cos we’ll really now be able to closely assess you. I have a feeling deputy skipper, Ekong had a hand in this. He may not be the most rugged defender, but he sure has these organiser-communicator-influencer talents of a leader.
TBH, I’ve been doubtful of your ability to be a reassuring wall at the back – in fact, I’ve not had real confidence in the entire goalkeeping gang of the SE. But this provides a glimmer of hope; perhaps you’ll turn out to be rough diamond. Fingers crossed. Watford games will now be top of my must-watch lists. Hopefully, you’re at least on the bench on match days and get to play some games, maybe even take the number 1 shirt soon.
He is returning on loan to rottadam till the end of the season……Next season he might be loaned to Either Granada and Udinese which is also a top5 league……Our SE players should challenge themselves by making bold moves in the their club career……Their SE shirt should be dependent on the pedigree of their club football…… Don’t just relax in a Division 2 club, Turkey, Cyprus or any unknown club and walk into Nigerian national team and pick up a shirt all because you are Rhor’s trusted soldier……. SE is a brand and the brand need to be represented globally……Our players must be present in the UCL and Top5 leagues in Europe……Our players must be able to compete among the best in the game world wild……Is this too much to ask of?
This is what I like to hear from SE players……Let them challenge themselves with the best in the Game…….Okoye nice move and I wish you well in your future conquest…….This move has made my day.
Please all Rhor’s trusted solders should come out of their hiding (obscure leagues) and compete in top5 leagues if truely they have quality……on Top5 league we stand.
Where are the Maduka Okoye’s critics on this platform. Rohr took him from the scratch to stardom.I wish you the best in Watford fc , imperatively I hope Watford would maintain EPL status next season
Look at how just 13 SE caps have done to a footballer’s career within a short time…….But some have gathered loads and loads of SE caps but still languishing in Cyprus Turkey division 2 and what have you?…….Until uzoho realize that club football can change a player he can never compete with Maduka okoye…… Rhor Please give the national team caps to players who are ready to use it to excel in their careers and thereby raising the standard of the team.
Okoye in the premier league! Wow!
Great move for the Dusseldorf Ninja.
Time to rub shoulders with the big boys!
Wow….we didn’t see that coming. Congratulations bro….so proud of your growth.
When Rohr declared this young man to be his no 1 goalkeeper for SE back then, many haters were busy lambasting roha for making such declaration when there is Uzoho, Osigwe, Yakubu etc. Now it’s clear what roha see in him to make that bold step.
Okoye is truly 22years… meanwhile we cannot say same of the other goalkeepers we had.
Okoye is clearly making progress in his career but that does not remove the face that going back to our games… vs Sierra Leone, and a couple other games he has had for us… was evidently shaky and looked short on confidence!
Game time and exposure will give him confidence
@Jimmyball sorry what’s your point?
Do you know how many mistakes Vincent Enyeama (arguably one of the best Nigerian goalkeepers of all-time) made in Super Eagles shirt? Even a top-keeper like Alisson of Liverpool made two catastrophic mistakes against West Ham yesterday. Yes, Okoye looked shaky in some games but he’ll mature. The talent is there!
Enyeama made mistakes even till his peak years. I am sure cushioning a harmless corner kick unto the head of Paul Pogba in Brazil wasn’t intentional. How a goalkeeper with less than 15 caps is being expected to be as good as an Enyeama at his peak is what sports scientists are still researching till date.
See as simple congratulations heavy racist to talk for mouth….LMAOoooo.
Okoye is not a national team material……LMAOOoooo. Sparta Rotterdam, Eredivisie and Watford sporting directors must be the dumbest and most corrupt people on earth…..LMAOooooo
Jimmy ball or whatever is your name, why don’t you just swallow your stupid pride and congratulate the young man. I have been reading some of your comments and I just got so tired of your nonsense arguement with Dr Drey. Someone was stating obvious facts and you were still arguing. Guy you need to remove the veil from you eyes and just accept the truth. Guy you need prayers.
I don’t understand some of us in this forum anymore. Our number one goalkeeper secures a deal to a Premiership side and what do we get in return?
It’s such a pity some persons don’t know the right comments to come up with in a particular post. This is the right time to celebrate this great move and not castigating the young man.
Maduka Okoye has a long career ahead of him. We all should give him the necessary support on club side and national team. Once again, congrats bro.
A racist will always be a racist my brother. Someone who was conceived on the bed of hatred will still hate a man even if he saves his life. You cant change that about them.
God don dey shame devil small small…..LMAOOOo. Its always our prayers God should not kill our enemies….No o. God should keep them alive to see us making progress in life.
The one whom some failures classified as not being national team material has become the 1st Nigerian to be named GK of the season in a top league and also the 1st Nigerian goalkeeper to be signed by an EPL club…..LMAOOooo…..Football truly know him people…..LMAOoooo
E remain that drunkard omolangidi that always claims Rohr did not discover a goalkeeper for 5 years to come out of his coven and congratulate Okoye…that is if it would be too heavy in his mouth like it is for our dear failed trialist up there……LMAOooooo.
When God don open file of enemies to shame them, na so their shame dey always come in bundles……LMAOOooooo
Dr Drey, pls don’t break my ribs with laughter abeg, “omolangidi” Gan ni boy omo9ja yen. I don’t know why you are wasting your energy on that attention seeker @Jimmyball, his comments is not worth replying to, because he will always vomits jagons. Have a blessed week my guy. Congrats Maduka, keep moving on.
AM HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED IN THOSE COMPARING OKOYE WITH IZOHO AND ALSO CONCLUDING THAT THE LATER DID NOT DO ANYTHING TO BETTER HIS FOOTBALL CAREER, IT’S A SHAME FOR ANYONE THAT GREW UP IN NIGERIA LIKE ME OR UZOHO TO BLAME THIS YOUNG NIGERIA. WE ALL KNOW THIS COUNTRY NIGERIA IS A DREAM KILLER , AND I CAN CONFIDENTLY SAY ANYONE WHO MAKES IT IN NIGERIA LEGITIMATELY WILL RECORD TRIPPLE SUCCESS ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. AM NOT SURPRISE WITH THE PROGRESS OKOYE IS CHURNING RECENTLY , HE WAS BORN IN A COUNTRY WHERE HE IS SET UP TO MAKE IT WITH JUST LITTLE EFFORTS, AND AGE IS WELL BY HIS SIDE.HE WAS BROUGHT IN COUNTRY WHERE KIDS ARE ALLOWED TO QUESTION PARENTS AND AUTHORITIES NOT NIGERIA WHERE WHEN YOUR PARENTS CALLED YOU ONCE AND YOU REFUSE TO ANSWER TWICE YOU ARE IN SOUP.
THEN FOR THOSE GIVING CREDITS TO ROHR FOR THIS LAD PROGRESS YOU ARE RIGHT BUT TRUTH BE ,OKOYE’S SKIN AND COMPLEXION WITH HIS MENTALITY AUTOMATICALLY GAVE HIM A LEAD NOT NECESSARILY HIS SKILLS. I MIGHT BE WRONG I SEE UZOHO A BETTER KEEPER THAN OKOYE.
NO AVERAGE CLUB WILL SPEND MONEY ON ANY NIGERIA BORN AND BRED GOALKEEPERS BECAUSE WE ARE NATURALLY A CHEAT.
@Respect is reciprocal… they wont know because they have never been anywhere near how things work in those climes.
US as integrated as it is today… light skinned African Americans get a pass where darker skinned dudes gets harassed and disapproved… even Americans know it themselves…
Complete Jargons…..you made absolutely no sense.
Remember how a coach reinstated Francis Uzoho first choice at Deportivo and got sacked only for the next one to come and demoted Uzoho to B-Team eventually running him out of Spain… they were angry he displaced a senior goalkeeper… who was certainly Spanish… Lol.
FAT Lies.
Uzoho was never the 1st choice at Deportivo, he became 1st choice as a result of a bizzare goalkeeping crisis in the team in which all 3 goalies when not fit to play due to varying fitness issues. He was keeping goal regularly for Depor B in the 3rd division till the weekend b4 his laliga debut and was brought in to the 1st team for the 2-3 weeks it took to get the first team keepers back up and returned to his duties with the B team subsequently.
Moreover the 1st choice for Deportivo then was a certain Costel Pantilimon (a Romanian), while the 2nd choice was Przemyslaw Tyton (a Polish). Wherever you got your own fictitious stories that Uzoho was demoted by a new coach because he was angry he displaced a Spanish is something that beats imagination.
Or has the new coach been following him all around till today…??? the new coach also the one at Omonia Nicosia today too…?? Is the new coach the one who instructed him to move from reclaiming 1st choice at APEOL after a lengthy injury to sitting on the bench at Omonia…..LMAOOoo.
Eyii….some people can lie….!
Fear who no fear this guy
You are as wrong as the devil. Okoye is currently benching a top goalkeeper in his club. Not just a top goalkeeper but a goalkeeper from the Netherlands: a native. Skin colour and background can never be the reason. Mendy as black as he is, is the first choice goalkeeper of Chelsea. So, that argument is faulty as they come.
Uzoho’s problem is down to one of three things. Either the burden of family/marriage or family problem is affecting him (I heard he is a married man), or it is just hard luck or even a curse, or inefficient agent/bad transfer decisions. With the way Uzoho had started, if he had been regularly active in a club and had been playing regularly, by now he would have gone very far as a goalkeeper. But it has been one week one trouble for him, since 2017
Let us not celebrate his move to Watford yet o… I hope this move does not obliterate his career because Watford dey collect staedy for EPL o… make hime no go concede 8goals for one match against Man City o… so if we the congratulate am… make we the pray for am too… no hiding place for EPL… the will test him in aspects of goalkeepers especially in-swingers and crosses wey the always make am look shaky… anyways… good move!
You are very right. The young man will really be tested in the EPL, a lot more than the Eredivisie where a goalkeeper can be on holidays in some matches
HAhahahaha…so you even know players get tested in certain league more than certain leagues…..LMAOoooo. What happened to your “the league doesnt matter” parody….LMAOOooooo
Nobody said it would be an easy ride for okoye,…. challenge only brings out the best in a player…… congratulate okoye and stop acting the vilian role in this forum……it will make you lose your credibility and the few like us who sometimes see reasons with some of your argument will totally lose confidence in you.
The swingers and crosses wey dey always make am look shaky Lmao!! Another lie. Okoye is the most confident goalie we have in terms of swingers and crosses. The one who always looks shaky when it comes to crosses is Uzoho who flaps at every crosses to the box. Enyeama that everyone is worshipping today was the worst goalie we had in terms of swingers and crosses. I can’t remember Okoye flapping at crosses to his box in a SuperEagles. He only need to continue improving on his shot stopping ability which will come with more experience and the exposure he’s already getting.
This your comment had made it so clear to me that you are just a saddist.
@ Jimmyball. This your comment just proved to me that you are truly a saddist
He is going to be a backup goalkeeper like kept,Leno etc
Watford main goal keeper is Ben foster and he was England international until he retired
_Okoye:are critics now silenced?_
Now that came out of the blue! Maduka Okoye – Super Eagles number one – is now an English Premier League goalkeeper. Such great news that will surely confirm all along that those fans (like myself) pointing out Okoye’s shortcomings were indeed shortsighted after all, right?
Not exactly.
To call Okoye’s rise meteoric will be putting it lightly. Just under 3 years ago, the 22 year old net-minder was minding his business in the lower leagues of German football. The thing about Okoye is that to us his critics, he doesn’t seem to inspire much confidence in between the sticks.
When he was introduced for the injured Uzoho against Brazil in the 2019 friendly, a body of fans were left unconvincing by his brief cameo. He has good looks but his style of goalkeeping did not look that good.
His starting position, diving technique, decision making, reflexes and how he just conducted himself overall just left a bit to be desired.
But, there were many fans back then who felt a star was born. To these fans, they saw a (very) young goalkeeper who was slightly overawed by the occasion against Brazil but one who will come good in time.
However, the prediction from us critics was that Okoye will be exposed soon enough as a goalkeeper with inadequate skills to cut it in international football.
When he conceded 4 goals against Sierra Leone last year, a game the Super Eagles were cruising comfortably into victory, the knives were out and the prediction (of his detractors) had come true quicker than expected – and against a very lowly opposition.
But, like a phoenix, Okoye rose from the ashes of that disappointment to establish himself firmly as undisputed number one for club and country with scintillating saves and overall performances that won critical acclaim in the Netherlands for his club Sparta Rotterdam and for the Super Eagles on occasions.
It will be fair to say that Okoye has risen from obscurity to stardom in the space of just 2 years and his star is set to shine more brightly when he formally moves to the English Premier League next season.
Even if Watford gets relegated, some fans (including myself) will still perceive the English Championship as an upgrade.
It will be gravely unfair to compare Okoye with other Nigerian (indigenous) goalkeepers just because of how rapid he is rising. True, Okoye’s rise has a lot to do with his talent, skills, attributes and capabilities as a goalkeeper, but I believe being born and bred in Europe gives him an added and distinct advantage.
If Francis Uzoho plays and commands a starting shirt in Cyprus and continues his growth trajectory that was evident in 2018, I will still consider him (Uzoho) a better goalkeeper just on the account of how appealing his saves, mannerisms and command of his area comes across. On a good day, Uzoho’s goalkeeper skills are fluent and his reflexes appear sharper. There is a frisson of excitement and buzz of fascination that comes with seeing Uzoho stretch like a predator to palm away the ball (or bark instructions at his defenders) that you just don’t see with Okoye.
If Uzoho were born in Spain, it is not a stretch to suggest that he would, by now, be either a La Liga or La Liga 2 established goalkeeper.
According to the Holy Book, the battle doesn’t always go to the strongest (more so if you are born in Nigeria!) but time and chance happens to them all.
It is Okoye’s time and I pray he gets the chance to shine in England. He is by no means a bad goalkeeper but one with great potential to improve on what is already a promising career.
Good luck Okoye!
You write exactly same way the KAIZER or CZAR played for the great West Germany teams of 1970-1974; so much grace!
Always a joy reading from you @Deo
Respect always!
This is today’s biggest news for me.
Some said Rohr was wrong to cap a 4th division goalkeeper, but I guess Rohr has been vindicated by this move.
Some said Rohr hasn’t discovered any goalkeeper in five years, yet the same Rohr capped a 3rd division goalkeeper in Uzoho and later capped a 4th division goalkeeper in Okoye. As at now, both goalkeepers are on an upward trajectory and save for some hiccups, Uzoho would have gone farther than his present level, I believe.
They brandished various names on CSN, as if Rohr has NFF’s permission to invite eleven goalkeepers to camp at once. They even consistently clamored for a certain goalkeeper that haven’t manned the post up to ten times at professional level since his 2013 heroics at cadet level.
Rohr declared him No 1 and some quickly played the racist card. I guess the Sporting Directors at Sparta Rotterdam and Watford also picked Okoye cuz of his skin colour. News is already out that this transfer is actually a record transfer at Sparta Rotterdam’s end of the deal, so one can imagine how much Watford is parting with.
The young Okoye has broken/set some records already, even with many years of active soccer ahead of him;
– Sparta Rotterdam’s biggest transfer in history. It’s amazing this record is now held by a goalkeeper and not an outfield player.
– First Nigerian goalkeeper to be signed up by an EPL club.
Congratulations to SE’s number 1, Okoye, more wins ahead for you IJMN, Amen.
We leave the naysayers to their folly.
Awesome congratulations@Maduka Okoye wishing all the best and injury free. Great move
With this move he has definitely cemented his status as SuperEagles undisputed numero uno. Someone said we shouldn’t compare Okoye to Uzoho because Uzoho was raised in Nigeria. That everything was setup for Okoye to be successful because he was raised in Germany. Lmao!! How delusional? The person forgot that Uzoho was a product of Aspire Academy in Qatar where he has been since his U13 days. The bitter truth is that Uzoho hasn’t really been consistent since the WorldCup in 2018. If you can’t hold down a regular first team shirt in the Cyprus league what justification do you have to make him the SuperEagles first choice goalie?? Okoye has been consistent since he was called up while playing in Germany fourth division. Since making his debut against Brazil in 2019 he has been steadily progressing through the ranks. And definitely deserves to be SuperEagles number one goalie for a very long time. He reminds me of the great Dodo Mayana.
Racism did not hinder Uzoho in anyway…..Uzoho was hindered by his own self and his decision to move to a mushroom league like Cyprus…….Most SE Players have that mentality that once they hold down a shirt in SE,they can move to any useless league, play regularly and still hold down their Shirt in SE…….It’s working for many of them,as nobody questions why EPL Lig1 Bundesliga SeriaA players are dropped for mushroom league players……Uzoho was only unlucky in the act because Okoye sprang up and it was too delicious for Rhor to resist…..After been SE number one at the world cup and bursting into limelight I was expecting Uzoho to move to atleast Belgium Holland Portugal but zoom he ran to Cyprus of all places thinking he can do what others are doing(play regularly in a mushroom league and displace top league players in SE)…….Now someone wants to blame racism for uzoho’s predicament……. Okoye is not white and he was never favoured in anyway…… Okoye left The Bundesliga and headed to The Eredivise as Rottadam’s third choice…….he worked hard and challenged himself by working his way to the top……He took the first choice spot for the team and since then held it down……Most SE players run away from leagues that there is challenge especially when they are guaranteed an SE call up…….They will rather stay in Division 2, turkey, Cyprus and be getting their call up there than challenge themselves in a tough league where their character and quality will be tested to the limit……..Uzoho should blame himself not any other person.
Congrats Okoye, the time to work hard is now so that you don’t get there only to become a bench warmer, HARD WORK IS THE NAME OF THE GAME BRO. In as much as i will forever congratulate Okoye and support him for this move, i must say that his invitation to the Super Eagles have greatly boosted his CV and respect in the football World hence his quick progression from the 4th division in Germany to EPL in less than two years. It does not remove the fact that Okoye have been working hard otherwise his form would have dipped despite his invitation to super eagles. My worry though is the refusal of the goal keeper’s coach to give such opportunity to Alapasu who is the only Nigerian goalkeeper that has ever won a golden glove in any Fifa organised competition. His Talent is extraordinary as exhibited at the U17 World cup for Nigeria in 2013, all we needed to do is expose him which will help him build his confidence as a special talent just like Brazil did with Ronaldo in 1993- 1994 when they made him a non playing member of their National team because of his talent and they even took him to the 1994 World cup as a practice material just to expose him. Instead of inviting all characters to the National team as goal keepers, there was even a time when a local goal keeper maintained his shirt with the Super Eagles even when he was not the first choice goal keeper in his local clubside, i mean he was not the number one choice in his Nigerian clubside. Can you imagine that?
Shebi na person some block heads said wasn’t fit to be named super eagles number one. Oh, that there were a lot of keepers in our domestic league that can take his place. If he wasn’t this good, why on earth would Watford decide to spend their scarce resources on him? Circumstances keep vindicating this great young lad and rohr for keeping faith in him. Now, all of them have run away with their tails in btw their legs, they can’t be found anywhere here. Congratulations brother, I wish u all the best.
Am shaking my head for Ayphillydegreat.
Just do yourself a favor. Go and watch Nigeria matches on YouTube when Uzoho was in actions and watch Okoye videos too and compare the two.
It is quite simple that way. Okoye is now in England doesn’t mean Uzoho can not be in Spain or France tomorrow.
One thing I want you to understand is that, everything happens for a reason.
Luckily, Oga Rohr have chosen Okoye over Uzoho but the quality and experience of Uzoho can’t be compared to Okoye.
We saw it against Benin, Cape Verde and CAR. I love Okoye so much but his for the future and Uzoho still remains Super Eagles no1.
How would you compare Okoye with dodo mayana?
Look young man, the only goal keeper that has Peter Rufai skills was Vanseki during his days. The guy that manned the post for Nigeria in 2005 in Holland under20. You remember him?
To name Okoye number shows that Oga Rohr can not manage the Super Eagles.
We should thank Uzoho against CAR in Lagos. He save us in that match and am shocked in the second leg of the match in Cameroon when Okoye was in goal.
We should count ourselves lucky that Okoye wasn’t in that match against CAR in Lagos.
This is why Oga Rohr can never build us a team.
He doesn’t have the capacity to do so. He can’t am pretty sure of what am saying.
All in all, congratulations to Okoye and I wish him the best.
Ayphillydegreat, Okoye is good but Uzoho is better as a no1 goalie for Nigeria since the coaches decided not give other goalies a chance to play for Nigeria.
Sooner or later, Oga Rohr and Amaju will leave and you will see that Nigeria have so many young talented players and goalies.
NFF are wasting their time with Oga Rohr. That is just it. Over the five years of Oga Rohr, no Iwobi, no Super Eagles. No Ndidi,
no Super Eagles when we have Nwakali, Nwobodo and other players available selections and what the rigid coach can do is to give excuses. So sad. Well, everything has is own time though. Oga Rohr should enjoy is time now. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
Just reread the gibberish you just post here. The only goalkeeper who have Peter Rufai skills was Vanzekin Lmao!! Where is Vanzekin playing now and how did his career fare after the U20 WorldCup in 2005?? At least by now he should be like 32 or 34 years of age why has he fled to oblivion since then?? He couldn’t even make the step up to train with the SuperEagles Lmao!! And you’re comparing him to the great Dodo Mayana. Puff puff pass that thing you’re on. Uzoho is better but can’t displace the number one goalie at Omonia Nicosia in Cyprus league. Over the last two years I’m not sure Uzoho has kept goal for any of his clubs up to 5 times and he should be SuperEagles number one?? Anyway ọrọ ẹ o le jọmiloju.
Are there not so many talented players and goalies when they couldn’t qualify for 3 out of 4 AFCONS before Rohr came?? Don’t worry you have another whole year to deal with Rohr. Ṣebi iwọ ni I’m sure by the time Rohr leaves and the so many talented players and goalies we will have then fails to qualify for the next AFCON with another Guardiola you will still come here crying that why can’t they beg Oga Rohr to stay. AFỌFUNGBEMU. Shake your head for yourself. Okoye has already disgraced you and your likes who questioned his call up while playing in the 4th division in Germany.
“….Okoye is good but Uzoho is better as a no1 goalie for Nigeria since the coaches decided not give other goalies a chance to play for Nigeria….”
But according to you, Rohr has not discovered a goalkeeper in 5 years…….LMAOOoooo. Uzoho and Okoye must be the SE team bus drivers.
Drunkard…!
God is beginning to punish haters like you already….with news like these. $6m is what Watford is paying for the person you and jimmylie has class as not good enough for the national team…..LMAOOoo.
Okoye is not national team material……6m move to EPL within 2 years
Frank Onyeka is not national team material…..10m move to EPL within 3 years
Maybe una own national team material still dey for factory for Kaduna textiles……LMAOOoooooo
https://soccernet.ng/2021/11/super-eagles-returnee-odion-ighalo-wins-west-asia-award.html……. Haters, Odion is at it again o. This dude always proves himself wherever he goes. That is the mark or a true striker. A feat that has not been not been achieved by any nigerian striker in recent memory. But the passionate hate some people have for this guy and his manager automatically makes them blind miserable mices to appreciate and respect his worth. He will justify his return to the fold with great feats yet again for us to the shame of down trodden evil men and sorry haters.
