Major League Soccer (MLS), Colorado Rapids have announced the signing of Super Eagles defender, Chidozie Awaziem.
Awaziem joined Colorado Rapids from another MLS club, FC Cincinnati.
The centre-back signed through the 2025 season, with options for 2026 and 2027.
The 27-year-old spent just one season with FC Cincinnati.

Awaziem made 14 appearances across all competitions and recorded three assists.
“We are excited to welcome Chidozie and Ian to the Rapids,” Colorado Rapids President Pádraig Smith told the club’s official website.
“Chidozie is a leader and a powerful defender with vast experience in Europe and on the international stage, while Ian has established himself as an athletic and accomplished defender in MLS.
“Both players are strong fits for our game model and they bring added quality to our group as we look to build off a successful 2024 season and continue strengthening our team.”

I can’t believe Awaziem has become so bad that even an MLS team had to offload him after few months….Chai
If we can invite Alhassan Yusuf to the Super Eagles, it begs the question why we appear to allow Chidozie Awaziem wither on the vine of irrelevance. After all both players earn their crust in the United States.
I am a huge Awaziem fan so it comes as no surprise that I feel he is still very much relevant to the Super Ealges. But, even shameless die hard fans like me, who still remember Awaziem in all his 2019 afcon performance glory, struggle to see how he can displace the 2 current right full backs in the team: Aina and Osayi-Samuel are unassailable.
And, as a centre-back, Awaziem never really impressed.
That said, many fans have already moved on from Awaziem after he moved to USA.
But, as a fan, I have no problem if he is invited so long as he is fit in mind and body. Moving from one club to another in US after one season doesn’t bother me.
However, I think Eguavoen or whomever would rather search European leagues for other right back options rather than revive interest in him. Indeed, Awaziem appears to have shot his Super Eagles chances in the foot by moving to North America.
Revival of his Super Eagles status seems remote at best and non-existence at worst.
